I've noticed this happening for several artists in my library - I wondered if anyone else had noticed it.

Basically, I keep seeing two or more tracks appearing under an artist in my library, but the track is exactly the same title. For some reason they're separate rather than as one, and when you click on either, it normally comes up as the one with the least scrobbles. (Hard to explain!) Screenshot below:

So when I click on either versions of 'Will You Love Me Tomorrow' (both are exactly the same), it comes up as the one with just 2 scrobbles.

I'm wondering if this is something to do with when mistagged tracks had been corrected by the old site, but they haven't migrated over properly yet. So, I'm hoping that this is just another thing that will be fixed in due course.

Hi Tom,

Yes, this can happen due to scrobbling different spellings of a track.

There's a setting to enable/disable spelling corrections at http://www.last.fm/settings/website - which isn't fully functionable yet, but when you disable corrections, you should see two different tracks in your list. Does that help?

Cheers,
Laura

Hi Laura,

Thanks for your reply - I'd understand that if they were different spellings, but as far as I can see they're spelt exactly the same?

If you click them, do they both take you to the same page? Same URL, etc?

Yep, takes me to the same page, but it says it's the lower scrobbled of the two.

One annoying example is the Cher track "We All Sleep Alone (Todd Terry Remix)" from her "Believe" album from 1998. This track is automatically converted to "We All Sleep Alone (Remix)" which is a different remix released back in 1988, not the 90's remix. Fix this now please. Such a stupid function anyway.

This has happened to me as well. The spellings are identical but they show up separately.

This was happening on the old site too.

For the past year or so, sometimes scrobbles would be redirected to a "new" version of an existing song, with the exact same spelling, but which showed up as being 30 sec long!

Clicking on the "new" version would show the scrobbles of the old version, only.

Nice to see that's been fixed... :-/

I *think* I know what's happened. I think it's to do with the old site's tag correction system that either hasn't migrated full yet, or won't work with the new site (hopefully the former).

For instance - with my example above - I think at one stage I scrobbed 'Will You Love Me Tomorrow' (without the question mark), and then at some point last.fm corrected it to 'Will You Love Me Tomorrow?' (with the question mark, or vice versa).

That's why it's showing up as two separate songs in my library, but so far there's only one entry to click on. Another example I've seen is a song called 'Met a Girl Like You Once', which I have on my computer tagged as 'I Met a Girl Like You Once'. In my new site library it shows up twice as the former, but when you click on it, it shows the one with less scrobbles.

This is very frustrating and I hope last.fm will fix this ASAP, because it's putting everything out of whack.

Bumping again as I'm still hoping to have further official response to this, as it's happening a lot and is making charts very inaccurate.

The same is happening to me since the change to the beta site.

As an example the track is called "Que te vaya bien, Miss Carrusel", and Spotify has it wrongly named without the coma, and the autocorrection of last.fm fixed in the past, and I had in the old site this track with 90+ scrobbles.

Now I have "Que te vaya bien, Miss Carrusel" with 71 scrobbles and the exactly same track with the same name with 25 scrobbles.

The links of the songs are the same, and when I click on either of the two it goes to "Que te vaya bien, Miss Carrusel" with 70 scrobbles.

And this happens in several tracks, I think probably everyone that the autocorrection of Last.fm automatically fixed in the old site. I have this function enable in the new beta site but I don't know if is working.

I hope they this problem soon.

Same with me, tracks that have been autocorrected are shown as duplicates, but with the corrected title. This is happening with albums too, but I'm not sure if that's an autocorrect issue.

Same here! I deactivated the auto-correction and some songs (like Queens of the Stone Age's "First it Giveth" and "...Like Clockwork") are still appearing twice, but with wrong tags ("First it Giveth Number One" and "Like clockwork"), which I never scrobbled!

Is this going to get fixed?

It has nothing to do with "auto correcting", because this is a problem with a bunch of tracks I have scrobbled, and it's a little irritating.

Everything is spelled the exact same and they both bring me to the same page, but the overall number of plays don't add up together as one.

Exactly - it's happened on many tracks and I'm surprised not more people have noticed or said anything about it as it's quite a serious issue, and after the latest update there's no sign of it being fixed or even properly acknowledged. This thread says it has but the last.fm employee got the wrong end of the stick it seems,

Hey all,

Sorry to hear this problem is troubling you. I know the corrections issue I was talking before has indeed not been fixed yet.

Could you please post some example links to pages in your libraries where you're seeing the problem with duplicate items being shown? This will help with investigating if there's another issue.

Cheers :)

Thanks Laura, that's a big help if you could.

For instance, there's two tracks here titled 'Met a Girl Like You Once', but if I click on either one it shows up the one with the least scrobbles.

http://www.last.fm/user/eamezey2/library/music/Zack+Hexum

I think it's to do with when the old site used to autocorrect certain songs, as I remember with that particular song it corrected it from my file which is called 'I Met a Girl Like You Once', so it might be getting confused with the two different versions and it hasn't put them together properly.

Thanks, Tom.

Your example does indeed have to do with corrections. It looks like the first track shown is:

http://www.last.fm/music/+noredirect/Zack+Hexum/_/I+Met+a+Girl+Like+You+Once

The second one is:

http://www.last.fm/music/Zack+Hexum/_/Met+a+Girl+Like+You+Once

And these aren't merged in the library when you have spelling correction enabled, so it shows two entries in the charts for what looks like the same thing and which link to the same page; which is a bug we'll need to fix.

Here are some I've noticed from my library. I know there's more but can't think off the top of my head all of them of course:

http://www.last.fm/user/hashtagbluejay/library/music/Mac+DeMarco/2
Dreaming has 2 separate sections
http://www.last.fm/user/hashtagbluejay/library/music/The+Dead+Milkmen/Eat+your+Paisley!
The Thing That Only Eats Hippies has 2 sections
http://www.last.fm/user/hashtagbluejay/library/music/Aphex+Twin/DrukQs+%28CD+2%29
54 Cymru Beats also has 2 sections

Trust me, they are all spelled correctly. I know all of the songs on Drukqs look like a big mess, but that's how all the songs are officially titled.

James, thanks for the links, too. What you're seeing in your library is the same issue with spelling corrections that I meant :)

You have 103 scrobbles of http://www.last.fm/user/hashtagbluejay/library/music/Mac+DeMarco/_/Dreaming and 28 scrobbles of http://www.last.fm/music/+noredirect/Mac+DeMarco/_/Dreamin for example, so with corrections enabled, they both show as "Dreaming", but the two entries aren't merged in the charts.

In the other two examples, it's http://www.last.fm/music/+noredirect/The+Dead+Milkmen/_/Thing+That+Only+Eats+Hippies and http://www.last.fm/music/+noredirect/Aphex+Twin/_/54+Cymrv+Beats

Hope this helps.

Weird..don't remember them being misspelled at one point, but guess that goes to show how bad of a memory I have. Hopefully this gets fixed eventually/soon.

I'm glad that you finally address this bug, my statistics are all messed up for this problem, i hear alot of music in spanish and portuguese which in apps like spotify are wrongly spelled And the corrector of lastfm did its work really good in fixing this, but now i have probably hundreds of songs that appear twice.
I only hope that We are not going to lose any scrobble when you finally merge the scrobbles for these songs

Glad to hear this is fixed for you now, you should indeed not be seeing these duplicate tracks anymore now, and the correct number of scrobbles on the track pages in your libraries :)
