  • Under Consideration
Hi,

I was wondering if username changing will be available on the new site? I do believe reading on the old forum that this feature was under consideration. Now that the new site is finally going live, I'd like to know whether or not it will be implemented.

Thanks a lot :)

I would absolutely love this to be a possibility. Please take this into consideration, Last.fm. My name from 10 years ago is pretty stupid, so I'd love to change it. I'm sure a lot of other old-timers feel the same way, too.

It's so easy to change username on twitter and instagram, then why is it impossible to change it on last.fm ?

Wow, they can't even change your user name. What a joke this site is. People have been asking this for so long but well shows how little they care about the community. Can't even change the user name in the redesigned site. Guess they are really trying to drag last.fm into the ground.

"What a joke this site is." are you still using it? Then what does this tell you about you then? What a joke your comment is.

Hi,

I'm not sure why this was tagged as not planned - that's incorrect.  We're planning to do this as it's by far the most requested feature on the old site; but there are several details/considerations to work out before we can begin implementing this -- so I can't give you an ETA. There are also other immediate priorities we need to resolve first concerning the launch of the new site (firefighting, missing features, etc), so it's still a ways off unfortunately.  Once I have more concrete information, we'll definitely let you know.

I'm getting really bothered by my username right now. My friends keep making fun of it because it's an old thing I made when I was many years younger. I would like to see this changed ASAP.

It's been a year since the last official update -- can we get an update on this?

I just started scrobbling to Last.fm again with the unofficial Google Play Music Desktop Player, and would be loth to have to delete my old Last.fm account. Nostalgia!

It can't be that difficult - just start using random UUIDs for new users, treat the old usernames as UUIDs (they won't clash) and add a new username field that anyone can change and start them off with the same content as the UUID for legacy users.

Hahaha, what an irony
I have hated my username for years. The only thing that kept me from killing the account was that there was a huge and ever growing library.
But recently I've realized that I don't want to change it any more. My username is what my friends followers recognize me by. My username and my avatar.
I bet that username changing is not the most requested feature any more. Now the most requested feature is the sidebar. I would rather have it back and I'm sure you all too. I guess the last.fm staff is carefully reading users' feedback and will put it under consideration for the next update... some 7 years later

Yes, at least to know when approximately it will be available - in this year, first half of the next, second half...

This is by far the best new feature being included in the site. I have changed names one time, after months of musical data was collected and have always regretted it; and have wished to change my current one but desperately do not want to lose the musical history of what I was listening to and when. I find the analysis months later to be very interesting to review. Please include this, many of us have been on last.fm for many years , sometimes even changing accounts and losing all the data only to build it back up again. It would be great for those of us who chose a name years ago to have a chance to choose a name more fitting to us now, than the us from then. It's clear when I look through my musical history that at some points I would have named a certain way and then other points I would have named in the comepletely opposite direction. Please allow us the chance to rename ourselves to the people we have become over the years of using last.fm. We have all grown and become different and better people through our continued use and dedication to supporting last .fm and it would be absolutely wonderful to be rewarded with the chance to rename yourself more to the person you are now, than the person you were then,. Thanks for the consideration, I notice no update in 4 months and no new posts supporting it in 2 months; but it would be absolutely wonderful to be called more of the person you are now than the person you may have been when you chose your name years ago. Thanks.

So it's 11 months later from my post above where I was advised by a friend that this request has been put on a lower priority (Tier 3 at that). Same friend has advised me "told you so" and has hinted that this feature request is probably written on a post it note, and is buried underneath other "Tier 3 priority" requests = meaning it won't get resolved.

I guess it's about time we moved on seeing as Last.FM doesn't want to move on with this request. It's almost as if they are holding our data hostage. I wouldn't be surprised if they just decided to declare all of the scrobbles we've done is owned by them. Free Service = We are the product.

What have you all done moving forward? Many I would like to assume have just pushed towards Spotify. If only Spotify had music from the bands I listen to, then I'd complete the jump.

Anyway, I wish you all a happy new year, and who's willing to bet that I'll be making the same post next year? Haha oh man

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Short story about high hopes and disappointments - changing nicknames and dumb pr....

Hello, nice to see You here.

I thought that it is a really good time to spread a word and leave a comment about my dreams, hopes and disappointments.  After all those years my frustration has eventually reached an apogee.

I am with you since early 2010 - it's over seven years now. While creating an account on this wonderful platform I was 13 years old. Yes, 13. My brain was probably 40% smaller than it is right now, I was a retarded kid but I found this 'last.fm' thing, which instantly caught my eye. I have always been really keen on different statistics, rankings and stuff like that. I chose terrible name but I didn't care, in 2010 it appeared to be great.

Now it is 2017, world has changed, I grew up, my outlook is completely different than it was earlier.  I'm twenty, an adult human being.
My library is a story of me growing up, having problems, good and bad days, having friends and being alone, I can easily  scroll and seek through all those various episodes in my life, all my passions, parties - it is a diary. Can you imagine deleting this big piece of history or moving to another account to start something new? Oh, come on guys!

I just can't understand why can't you allow me to change my nickname, just to make it more personal, more mine, modern and updated. It is really sad and I feel so disappointed because I found requests from years 2013, 2014, 2015, you're always making promises that you are working on it, leaving us again and again with this dumb hope. I am sure that it isn't so hard and impossible for you to add this feature. You are fooling us.

Just to underline - I am disappointed, you have our feedback, you have our ideas, requests, we're contacting you for years, and what do we receive? Just empty words.
You can't make us - your trusted and loyal users - happy, just happy and satisfied. We are not waiting for a blessing, we're waiting just for this one, small extra tool, and you know that for so long.

Hugs and kisses,
Waiting for your response, the same as always,
Emil from Poland.

It's because they are HARDLY working on mythical and already legendary new release catalogue!
Oh! Wait! But auto-correction also still sucks for two years and there's no any signs that any work has done.............................

Hi there,
Lastfm veteran here, been scrobbling since 2005. I've been waiting for this for about 8 years counting, what's the status?

BTW, love the new design. Would love to share it w/ friends and recommend last.fm, but I'm a little embarrassed of my old username. Kind of a deal breaker now.

Thanks,

But don't you see it guys they want us to keep scrobbling and not leave this sinking site so that's why they keep saying every year that our suggested ideas are 'Planned'. It's a never ending cycle and I've lost every inch of hope tbh

While we're waiting for this to happen, let's all talk about the various potential reasons why they still haven't implemented this. Here are some plausible reasons why:

* They don't have enough devs
* This is not a priority
* The dev who coded this has since left the company
* They're contemplating whether or not to charge people to change usernames
* They forgot about it
* The dev in charge of this keeps making up reasons not to do it
* This request is NOT a user need
* The head of Last.FM has an ex-girlfriend, and this is her number 1 requested feature
* They're not enabling this out of spite
* They've built Last.FM up to a point where changing usernames is not a feasible option

Can't you guys come up with a workaround? Like say, export all data, or transfer it to a different (new) account (then disabling the old one)?

It's 2017, at least let us change our username or import full library. I made a mistake on my username, and scribbling for like year which includes 10k songs. I just want my desired username.

If they won't allow me to change my username before the year ends, I'm jumping ship to Spotify.

Whenever someone asks me about Last.FM, I'll always think of the username change.

right, because spotify and lastfm are interchangeable websites. one is a social media site that logs and charts the music you've played and the other streams music and you can view and create public playlists. just, identical. makes perfect sense.

Spotify also logs and charts the music you've played, and from the short time I've experienced using it (about over a month), it's recommended some really good songs and artists based on my listening preferences (extreme metal).

It's also quite social, with tight integration to Facebook. None of my Facebook contacts use Last.FM anymore.

So as per my need, there's absolutely NO REASON to keep using Last.FM except for historical data, and I'm being nice, so I'm giving them a chance to solve this.

It makes PERFECT SENSE.

You know what also makes perfect sense? Being nice. Doesn't cost anything and makes the world a better place, even by a tiny bit.

It's been 2 years since the official response. Jon has said "Once I have more concrete information, we'll definitely let you know." Please, let us know even if it's not planned anymore.

This is the most requested feature because some of us are really ashamed of our usernames, honestly. This is a must-need.

If changing username isn't possible, I'd love to be able to take all my scrobbles and import them to a new profile without having to use scripts from github and teach myself basic Python first.
