Why are you not implementing the features people ACTUALLY want? Surely you read the comments on here?

Selecting date in the events is an amazing feature..wow...of course, it would have make more sense if I could first see the events in my town and not hundreds km away...but I have to wait for another sprint(irony) or tragically enrich the events URL with latitudes

There was a small bug where your Top Artists and Albums were linking to their pages in your library, rather than their main catalogue pages. We've fixed that :) Playcounts link to the library pages.

+1 I really preferred the library page. you're right though the artist page makes more sense so I can see which of my friends listen to the artist, and who the top listeners are. right? right?

Are you guys planning to increase the number of artists showed on image grid? Only 4-8 artists is... meh
Increase to 12 will be great :)

Yeah! I miss the artist bar graphs that accompanied them too. Now we can only have images OR a list with graphs. I'd happily sacrifice my top albums for some more artist info  :)

I don't know if I would go back to using it, but having customized top 8 or whatever is a feature that would still be nice to have lying around.

I would like to have back a small grid of artists and a longer list below, as we had on the old site. You could display two different date ranges that way, depending on your preference.

All i wanted was to easily delete a lot of scrobbles/artists without manually deleting one by one. So frustrating.

I see that scrobbles with an AlbumArtist tag starting with "Various" are accepted, eg. "Various Artists"  or "Various -Jazz") ... thank you.

But scrobbles with the AlbumArtist tag "Various Artists Uncut" are not accepted. I use this AlbumArtist tag to collect together the excellent albums which come each month with with Uncut magazine. Is there any reason for this restriction? Will i remain as an exclusion?

So why not just fix your database?  The amount of ambiguities is staggering.  Many times you can't distinguish between a band with a "The" in front of the name and one without.  Some tracks and album art are associated to one with the "The" and others to the ones without.  You also have huge amounts of duplicates in the albums for each band, because some of the album names are only slightly different.  Also, there are bands like "The Alley Cats" that have more than one band associated to the name, yet there is no differentiation.  Fixing these types of errors would greatly improve this site, instead of worrying about adding bells and whistles that nobody wants or really cares about.

That's the thing... Work on the database has been ongoing for months now, yet everyone on here is complaining about the lack of bells and whistles!

"Oh you're trying to fix the database? Where are my groups? Useless!"

So, personal tags, e-mail notifications, alphabetical sort order for artists in a library, all social features and other things aren't essential functions now, but "bells and whistles"? Okay then.

Exactly. They're nice to have, but not essential. The website functions without them. Priority should be towards Scrobbling and data first, and then useful features afterwards.

Oh yes, of course. Ideally we'd now be using a website complete with all past features and a whole bunch of brilliant and innovative new ones. But unfortunately that's not how it turned out.

Are trying to drum up support? because that is not happening if you trying to say that is the way it is, move on when there isn't much to move on to.

There is one good thing, but that is the "3rd party" github web scrobbler - working the best I seen it in 5+years, just a huge artwork issue with sites like vk.com. bandcamp, reverb-nation, etc.

If I need a "database", I'll go directly to Musicbrainz or Discogs. From Last.fm database I want two things only: it should not autocorrect my scrobbles when autocorrection is turned off, and should use album covers from my library for tracks in my library, that's all. But this autocorrection issue lasts more than 2 f*ing years, from as early as 23 Aug 2013 (see here: http://www.last.fm/forum/21713/_/2214134), so I'm already pretty fed up with all that bs about "catalogue work".

Well, the only good thing about this update (but not necessary) is that we got auto-update tracks.. wait. It's not working? It seems so.
I have no hope to better Last.fm, I gave up on hoping there will be anything better. Maybe this is a good idea. But my love for this site is fading still, guys, staff, you broke my heart so deep.

you should honestly replace Events with a link to songkick. What do you really feel you can improve on that site at this rate?

I don't get the events thing, is it normal that now it is impossible for me to add any event because of wrong date error? And also, if I can't see who is coming to a certain event but only how many people will be there, well, the whole thing is almost useless! And also, I loved that on the artist page I could see if my friends/followers had listened to that artist too, I used to check this before recommending something already known to someone.
Please, just focus on things that users have been asking you about, I personally care about this site since I do like it a lot (or at least the idea behind it for now), I've been using it for the last 5 years, so I don't want to stop doing it now! And yes, it would be nice if you could fix the "artists with the same name all in the same page" thing.
Thanks so much for the attention
:)

Is your work on the catalog already done?
I still can't find a lot of albums.
(Example: "Interlude" by Jamie Cullum, released 2014. (Musicbrainz: https://musicbrainz.org/release/959ad... ))

No, it is not released yet, the mods can already test it now, but it will take more time until all subscribers can see it. Like jon mentioned, many new releases are already included though.

For example that Jamie Cullum album has an own page now with full track list which is missing on the live site. Same would be true for PJ Harvey's brand-new album from last Friday: no track list live, but already available in the test version showing all scrobbles.

Are you going to include an option to merge duplicated artists? for example like in musicbrainz.org, where the users can correct by themselves the wrong names and in a few seconds/minutes it changes. It's a little bit annoying to have 2 or 3 pages for the same artist... Thanks in advance.

Knock knock - wake up Neo!
The deeper sense of a question is - how incomprehensible it seems to be - to get an answer.
So if your time allows, feel free to answer to the question of my interest: Is an end in sight with your work on the catalogue?
Have a nice day,
Andreas
(Don't be shy, we are all human. An answer like "No idea, we're drowning in work." will also be accept.)

It depends what you mean by "an end".

Because there's rarely such a thing in software development.  You deploy something, then you maintain, update, fix and further develop it. That's why it's called a lifecycle. It's hard to express the significance of this update, and I fear most people will find it underwhelming to begin with.  What we're doing here is laying down a new foundation for last.fm; and like the rest of the site as a whole, we'll be making incremental improvements over time -- hopefully at a steady pace. So in a literal sense, no there is no end.  It'll be imperfect, and we'll keep fine tuning it indefinitely.

However, I'd say most of the heavy lifting has been done and we are at the stage where we want to put this in front of people, so we can measure performance and assess overall accuracy.  We're also conscious of the fact that it took longer than anticipated, and we want to start working on some of the social features of the site (like neighbours).  So, the new catalogue will be rolled out to subscribers imminently (best case: tomorrow), as an opt in setting; and it will be available to non-subscribers at a date to be determined (maybe a month).

Maybe someone could shed some light for me here, but does this catalogue work mean anything more than just fill the database with new albums, artists etc? Will there be a dedicated page for it or anything? Will it be used to generate better recommendations and maybe for tag filtering? Do any other features depend on it, like neighbours or groups?

VirtualLionelMessi:

On the surface no-one really knows; you likely have some features that interest you more than others and vice versa. Nevertheless, and this is only my opinion; we appear to be stuck someplace in this forum from last year: http://www.last.fm/forum/21717/_/2245350

Again; and of course it is a matter of what interests one the most. Otherwise, we are in my observation stuck waiting for ‘your light’ at the end of a tunnel. At present the catalogue project is the essential priority.

You may it find better, and possibly more informative to make a post Tuesday morning London time about 5 am.

In the meantime, it might be worthwhile to read some remarks/comment from old site forum and compare and contrast to the beginning of the year on beta updates (here); and from that you should be able to hypothesize some reasonable deduction on progress.

I think the idea is to read over 100 comments that strangely sound the same here at present as they did year ago and make up your own mind. They are not going to answer the above/lead question other than it has to be completed, it should improve the site library. I seriously doubt their are any hoods in the musicbrainz database being imported, nor recommendations, groups, and all the rest of it.
