  • Updated 3 years ago
Welcome,

The first release of the year! It's a fairly small one because of the Christmas break, but here's what's gone live since last time:

Features
  • Reveal large album artwork on album and track pages
  • Default all non-Spotify countries to YouTube
  • Some changes to prevent spam event creation

Bugfixes
  • Prevent double-click causing resubmission during event creation
  • Fix problem where events could not be created when viewing the site in Spanish
Sprint 176 will include some more work on images plus other tweaks.

Cheers,
Team Last.fm

Any ETA on recommendations working properly? (both events and artists) and being able to add artists to ones library with the simple click of a button? This also calls for the "0 play artists" to re-appear.... Not to mention the possibility to dismiss recommendations.

Also, event merging, cancelling, shouting all still aren't working. And the recently played tracks seem to favour compilations over full albums (artwork-wise) and bonus tracks are mostly showing up blank...

I hope you had a great Xmas/NY-break, and I also hope LastFM will finally become more and more useful in the coming month(s) - we (the users) have been waiting long enough...

I want to switch 'autocorrect' off. What do you think about that?

I looked in my profile section, and the option seems to be there.  however, even with the autocorrect turned off, it's still autocorrecting certain titles

There's something different with charts when playcount are tied. It's sorting by song name now, why? It used to be much better with the older "random" algorithm. Is it a bug?

Please consider giving us a way to view more than 4 "similar tracks". I used this to discover a lot of music. With the current feature that only shows 4 tracks, you often end up with an infinite loop where you're only limited to tracks from a few artists. The older version, where there was a long list of similar tracks (though not perfect), was far more powerful and a brilliant feature that none of the other sites could match. I keep hoping this feature would make a comeback.

when will the 'new' albums be added to the library? Now albums that are released after the beta-site came out aren't in the album list of the artists.
Is this for the near further?

James you're a bit cute.  Single??  Because obviously this isn't a serious place to discuss the site, you don't seem to take it serious, you call this little piece of fluff an update, this must be a place where people can come talk shit.  So.  Do you have a girlfriend/boyfriend Do you like sports What's your star sign -__- next update better be AMAZING or I'm going to come back on this stupid little proxy site and ask you even more inane questions.

I recently updated my Itunes to version 12.1.3.
However since I have done this, I am unable to scrobble as the Last FM Scrobbler does not recognize that Itunes is running.

Anytime I hit the command 'Scrobble Ipod' regardless of whether there's an Ipod plugged into Itunes or not it will always say 'Itunes not running'

This problem has only begun once I started using the updated version of Itunes

I am unable to download an older version of Itunes.

It may be an idea to switch to a music player that has built-in scrobbling support. Clementine is available for MacOS so that may be an alternative.

I've downloaded and run older versions of apps from uptodown.com (i.e.-Spotify) without a problem. No malware issues here. Naturally Apple, like most other companies is going to discourage you from downgrading to a legacy version of their "improved" software. That's a given.

But I digress.... Clementine is indeed a viable alternative. Swinsian is another.

Tomahawk is another option.  Supports last.fm (plus a ton of other services) and works across platforms. Used it for a while on Linux.

What's causing a drop in sound quality?  They're using iTunes, so surely this is for music stored on their PC, not streaming?

That said, most streaming services have a minimum quality of 320kbps, except Apple Music, so I'm totally confused.

I use Bowtie instead of the official scrobbler app. I've found it much more reliable. http://bowtieapp.com/

Firstly thanks to everyone for replying. It's good to know that even if Last FM themselves can't be bothered helping, there's others that will.

I'm not a particularly tech savvy person so humour me if I'm being dumb here,

I download Clementine, which works like Itunes, I then sync my Ipod through there and I can scrobble?
Also it will reduce the sound quality of my music? Does this apply to what I will hear on my Ipod or is it only if I play it through the Clementine player.

I have a Dell Laptop running Windows 7.

Well, nothing I've tried has worked. Foobar didn't work. Neither did QT Scrobbler. I am resigned to the fact that unless Last FM decides to update the scrobbler to allow it to recognize the updated version of Itunes I can no longer scrobble.

I have no idea what I'm doing. This whole endevour was a waste of time.

@Chris, I'm not too familiar with Foobar, but do try this thread; https://getsatisfaction.com/lastfm/topics/foobar-doesnt-scrobble-anymore It has some information which will hopefully help!

EDIT:
Just saw you'd replied saying this didn't work and I neglected to refresh before posting what I'd already written.

I've been using http://www.foobar2000.org/ for years and it scrobbles with a component, https://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_audioscrobbler. There's also a component for ipod support, https://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_dop. The two can be used together to scrobble your ipod.

It does throw the occasional error about the system time being wrong (it's not) and other random connectivity issues (probably all last.fm's side, I don't recall ever having issues before the beta), but retrying submission a few times or restarting usually sorts it out.

It has components for unusual file types and I think it has stuff that enhances audio quality (never really looked into either though). It's very lightweight and super customizable. I highly recommend it.

The error about the system time being wrong is a new thing AFAIK. I experienced it during the change from Daylight Savings last Fall and once again more recently and this was with the official scrobbler (albeit, the old one). It definitely started after the beta.

Yeah same here, except it's kind of sporadic for me. Sometimes I just hit submit again and it gives me another error and then once more and it's fine, all within the span of 2-5 minutes many times. It's very finicky.

See, I downloaded the audioscrobbler and the ipod manager components but the audioscrobbler greyed out on the component list and I never got the option to send scrobbles. It just wouldn't recognize plays from my ipod
again I was able to scrobble from playing tracks through the foobar program but any plays stored on my ipod would not register.
I looked through the step by step tutorials but I did not have the same options that others seemed to have. As i said, there was no option for the audioscrobbler in the 'tools' section although I had the component installed.

I've had that happen before but I can't for the life of me remember what was wrong. Did you do the copy paste method with the .dll or the 'Install' one from the components menu? I haven't done the latter much but I think it ensures everything gets installed properly or something. It takes the audioscrobbler .zip file you downloaded originally, so make sure you still have that.

Edit: also I think the component being grayed out just means it either comes with foobar by default or it was installed manually in the components folder.

Also what happened with qtscrobbler? I used that for years too but I had to go and find a bunch of .dll files that were missing first. I'd found a forum post of something that had a full collection of the ones that were missing (there were quite a few) when I was first installing it.

I've just updated to iTunes 12.3.2 (Mac) and scrobbling seems to work fine.

If you're on 12.1.3, have you tried updating to the latest version?

To deter spam and vandalism, certain features (e.g. event creation, uploading images) are only available after you've scrobbled a certain amount of music on the site.

Looking at your libray, I can see that you've only listened to 5 tracks in total, which is not enough:  http://www.last.fm/user/_/library

So, simply put, you need to listen to more music on the site.  The quickest way to do that is to pick an artist you like, go to their respective page, and click on the "Play similar artists" link.  You'll know it's working when you see the tracks you're listening to appear on your last.fm profile: http://www.last.fm/user/_/

Alternatively, if you have Spotify, all you need to do is connect your Last.fm account, by following the instructions here: https://support.spotify.com/nz/learn-more/faq/#!/article/Scrobble-to-Last-fm . Then it's just a case of listening to music as you normally would.

Once you've scrobbled enough music (say, 2-3 hours), you should find that you're able to create events on the site as before.

Wow! You just make it even more complicated to use the website...
Explanations only when demanded, sometimes after a few of them.
After a while, the third or the fourth ask question about the same problem, your good guy of champion/mod/whatever can put a sarcastic comment why the user dosnt look the comments at thread, of a thread, of a thread... Why do you make it even worse?

Lol, launch an unfinished excuse of a website makeover, go on extended christmas break. Well played. Any ETA on flagging bad quality videos? I'm still checking back now and then, but maybe I should just stay over at Deezer. (which btw does not scrobble to Last.fm despite me giving Last.fm permission etc)

Sounds like Deezer may have an issue with their scrobbling implementation.  I'm not sure you can blame last.fm for a 3rd party app not working properly when other apps (some, not all, admittedly) work 100% percent of the time. The player I use has never missed a scrobble.

Have you tried reporting it to Deezer?

When are we bringing back the comprehensive "listening now" page with the section of people who listen to a particular artist the most in a specific time frame?  I remember there being  5 pages on the old lastfm where I could scroll through and see people just like me who enjoyed the same artist as much as I did. That was an excellent way for me to find users I'm compatible with...
