Website update - 16th August

Hey all,

We just released Sprint 190. Interesting bits from this release include:
  • Allow event search radius to be set
  • Combined playbar and masthead
  • Option to order albums by release date
A first version of shout notifications is included but can't be accessed yet. We're looking to turn this on in a few sprints time.

Cheers,
James

Even if I change the radius still some events do not appear in the list even if close to were I live and have indicated to be interested in this.

Example:  http://www.last.fm/event/4238227+Julia+Holter+%252B+Julianna+Barwick

further, I'd ike to see gigs from Cologne as well as Antwerp and Brussels and no matter what I set as centre even with a radius of 100 KM it does not do the job! Radius should be higher 150 or even 200 KM . With busses, trains or car it's only 1,5 - 2,5 hours drive. A real fan would not see that as to much to see their favourite act. I see lots of folks in Amsterdam from Germany, Belgium, North of France and even from the UK. So for some a cheap trip to and stay in the Netherlands is well worth the travel.  So some folks in London would like a radius of 300-500KM.

Guys, It's Europe, many countries are small and travel can be cheap, easy and fast!

Indeed. 100km is nothing!

Agreed, I think a graduation increasing 10km up to 100km as the maximum is too fine and unnecessary. It would make more sense with steps like 100, 200, 500 and even 1,000km for people living in bigger countries than on a small island. ;-) And at this time of year people are willing to travel larger distances for their favorite festivals, e.g. to Wacken in Germany.

Agree! In the north of germany 100 km isn't a great distance. You may find 1 (one) concert hall (if you don't live in Hamburg ;-) ). What should say the people with a little more space around the house like Finmark (Norway), Kanada, Russia ... Outside the big metropolises.

The new header/ player design looks nice, I guess. It's a bit neater, takes up less space and I like the central "Last.fm" logo. But it only looks good with my custom header image. Because there's less space now for the header, artist images look even worse than before.

And still, as a lot of people have mentioned already, we have the issue of missing artwork for tracks. I'm getting tired of these ugly grey default covers on my profile and in my library when I go through a lot of effort to upload artwork to the site.

Yes, but I think they will put posts, journals, playlists and the playing source in that space, like it was before. And if we are lucky enough, maybe even another footer/ad thingy (yaaaay).

Yeah the thinner header gives even less space for the artist images, I'm guessing most will see now even more foreheads or scalps on the banner.

My dream for the next few sprints will be to once again having the ability to customize our profile: about me, custom header image, custom artists display (I miss this!) and albums up to 16 along with the charts, artists image grid, and limit some ad space...you know, having the ability to express ourselves with our profiles like before. Having our recommendations and features to our liking.

Not like now where the website, one year later, isn't to 100%, we get things we don't want, not to mentions they are finding more ways to push what's considered "good" down our throats.

Oh well, back to my pillow I go, but before that, two words, Various Artists!

Good night.

Seriously though, how is this basic ability STILL not present after well-over a year of beta mode?

The inability to remove tracks with "unknown date" attached are doing my head in.

Hi, thank you for useful update. Can you, please, now create a page with all new releases from all artists from our libraries? It would make main page of site much better)

Thanks for giving us faster updates, finally!

The header looks better, but the header images look smaller now and are even worse than before...

I hope you guys are planning on letting us customise our own eventually. You must know they look absolutely ridiculous as they are now, since we can only see random parts of artists' faces.

It's also interesting that the Desktop Scrobbler App will replace the default missing artwork image with the current main artist picture - but the website doesn't.

LOL, so basically the limited and old desktop scrobbler is more capable than the brand spanking new version of Last FM that we've been test-running for the past 18 months?

Okay, nice. But i want to delete some artists of my library, some songs and i can't. One year since the new lastfm and you failed to bring back important options that were useful for all the users.

Option to order albums by release date
I would also like to be able to easily reverse this sorting, i.e. oldest albums on top (or least popular album). As it is now, I would have to use the pagination at the bottom and find the last page. Maybe this would also make sense for the shoutboxes. And being able to set this as my default in my website settings would be nice as well.

Spoken, as we had spoken (together). It would also welcome an alphabetical sorting option.

Still, as many people have mentioned already, we have the issue of missing artwork for tracks. I am getting tired of these ugly gray default covers on my profile and in my library when I go through a lot of effort to upload artwork to the site. Not to mention that on some records the song list is missing. By the way, when will you return the BBC? (Bulletin Board Code(s)) Please; Thank You. WHY? Come on we want this to work. They work on Wikipedia commodities but they do not work in shouts.

You can still see that not in aggregated form but individual scrobbles if you click on a track in your library or by going to this url http://www.last.fm/user/_/library/music/<artist>/_/<track>

I'm aware that the scrobbles contain the associated album details, but if it's not aggregated, then it's not very useful.

Please consider bringing back the mini-lists of all the releases each track has been played from by a user and displayed in their library, or at the very least the correct artwork next to each track of the album a user has scrobbled it the most from.

I find it mind boggling that in 2016, after all the websites that exist around the web with sorting options, that you haven't created the reverse option for sorting albums by release date; newest-to-oldest and oldest-to-newest. This shouldn't have to have been pointed out to you by numerous users on here.

There are also a lot of incorrect dates being applied to digital releases where I'm guessing they're using the date it was added to the digital retail stores rather than when the music was actually released originally. Not quite sure how you're going to be able to fix this - I feel like it'll likely need to be done through user help, submitting the correction information. After all, any sorting is meaningless if the information being used to sort is incorrect.

To end on a positive, I suppose the header looks nicer. ̄\_(ツ)_/ ̄
