Hello everyone,

We just released the following:

Current Obsession released
All users can now set their Current Obsession. Read more about Current Obsessions when we released it as a subscriber preview.

Retina icons
All icons now also have retina versions

Event line-up improvements
We've fixed how large event line-ups behave. We now show a stripped down set of artists on the event page and have a dedicated subpage for browsing the full line-up. We've also fixed the counts in the header. See https://www.last.fm/festival/4267842+The+Great+Escape+Festival

Cancelled events
We now clearly mark cancelled events

Attendees you know
Quickly see the attendees you know at the top of event pages

Capsfixer tool deployed

yOU wiLl seE LEsS of thiS vERY soOn. It'll take a little while for the changes to filter through but we now have a way to fix these bad tags.

Library link conventions
We've standardised on how you navigate the library compared to the rest of the site. Artist, track, and album names link to the catalogue page; numbers in charts link through to the library page

Bugfixes
  • Fix for misaligned lists in Safari
  • Removed that dotted underline in header stats

Cheers,
Team Last.fm

Excellent update, guys. Particularly pleased to see the "Library Link Conventions" done - I almost posted an idea thread about it, so you've saved me a job!

Keep up the good work.

What does "Library Link Conventions" mean? I guess I'm not sure what was actually done?

It was a poor choice of name, sorry. We've changed how links work in the library. Before today's update, all links would take you deeper into the library. Now it's easier to get to specific artist/track/album pages (click or tap the name), while still being able to dig deeper into the library (click or tap the scrobble count). You can also find these options in the menu for each row.

Thanks for the update!

For event line-ups, instead of only listing a certain subset of artists based on alphabetical order, I'd like to have it sorted by some other measure (popularity, play count, etc.). Because if a festival has a large number of artists, it's more important to see potential headliners than it is to see the bands that start with numbers,  "A" names, "B" names...

Also, deleted users show up as attendees. I think it's safe to disregard those.

Alternatively, there could be an option to mark the artist as a headliner.

That'd work too, but even with headliners listed first, it's still less helpful than what it could be.

For example, if the headliners are The Who, The Beatles, and The Doors they'd be listed first. Subheadliners The Rolling Stones and Cream. If some hypothetical local band "666 Satan Rules" knows the promoter and gets on the bottom of the bill, the listing would be: The Beatles, The Doors, and The Who, 666 Satan Rules, Cream, The Rolling Stones in that order.

I see your point, but in your example, "666 Satan Rules" would still be a correctly listed and legitimate subheadliner, even if they may not be as popular.

From an accuracy point of view, in your hypothetical gig situation, it's quite right for 666 Satan Rules to appear like that - even if they've used inside contacts to get better billing than they subjectively deserve, that's not Last FM's problem.

The lineup for all events (not just for festivals) should be in order of the artists added. That way users can mimic the real flyer/schedule/etc rather than something arbitrary like number of scrobbles. Currently for all event lineups you can have the headliner on top but the rest of the artists will add in some random unchangeable order.

Happy to see all users can now set their 'current obsession'.  Re: Retina Icons:  I had to google this as never heard of before. Does this mean you have to have a monitor/screen with Retina Display to utilize this feature?  is this mainly for our Avatars? or also for when we add images for Artists/album covers?
Look forward to seeing:   LEsS of thiS vERY soOn  :))  I checked out your Library Link Conventions...works great!!   Great update! Thanks LFM!

It's possible that staff has disabled it on purpose, because there were hundreds of submissions after going live, and they have to do them manually with the Caps Fixer. So if the related submissions thread is not open tomorrow 10:00am UTC, ask again.

The changes will not be applied in the database immediately, by the way, only twice a week, so please don't submit wrong spellings several times.

Sorry, my bad -- it looks like the forum wiped my embedded form when I last edited the post. Should be visible again.

>>>The changes will not be applied in the database immediately, by the way, only twice a week, so please don't submit wrong spellings several times.

Right -- We usually start the catalogue update on Wednesday and Sunday, and it takes about 2 days to update everything (we have to process all the tracks and albums of over half a billion known artists).  So we should hopefully see the changes go through on Fridays and Tuesdays.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Can Not Submit Examples of Incorrect Capitalisation.

The thread for submitting incorrect capitalisations appears to be closed or the form is missing.

See the Wikipedia article about Retina displays which is a trademark of Apple. So the improvement of higher density icons might only be visible on Apple devices. You are supposed to see no or far less pixels at a normal viewing distance on these displays. I guess it does not apply to all images on the site, but mainly the thumbnails, e.g. album covers in your recent tracks list.

Basically if you have an iphone, the icons on the site (love heart, settings cog, tag icon, play button, etc) should look sharper and less pixelated, because they're being displayed at a higher resolution.  I think you can also see the difference if you zoom in on your browser with ctrl+.

I think you would need a retina display device with Windows running to take advantage of these icons, I doubt this is already available on the market.

From Jon's post above it sounds like they've just increased the resolution for icons across the site. Retina is just a fancy marketing buzz word for a screen with high pixel density. So if you're using Last.fm on a PC, you'd probably need a 1440p or 4K monitor to benefit from the change.

With that said, I can't clearly see the individual pixels that make up these icons on my 1080p monitor from my usual viewing distance, so they're effectively already "Retina". The difference would be more noticeable on a phone which you typically hold much closer to your eyes.

There are a few phones out there running Windows OS like the HP ELITE X3 and LUMIA 950 XL which both have 1440p displays.

Really good update, I'd give 8.5/10 for sure, all changes are very good and needed or at least nice (obsession is nice addition and step to personalisation our pages)

The only bad thing is this mentioned by SillyMusicLover - deleting scrobbles is again worse. :/ I wish it will be repaired in some way someday, in this way as it is today it's just.. uncomfortable.

A few people (including myself) have suggested this.  Adding albums or artists is certainly possible, but whenever we release a new feature like this, we usually like to start by keeping things fairly simple to begin with and see how people use it, before adding new functionality.

The changes for "Library link conventions" are, indeed, quite good.
But ... I would've been happier if the "Delete scrobble" option could be moved back as the first option in the drop-down menu when clicking the "three-dots" button on a song in my library :-)  Now I have to "burn" even more energy by moving the mouse for a longer path when trying to delete a scrobble .  LOL

Really ... is it possible to have a user-defined order of these menu options ?

New updates are terrific, but what it mostly bugs me is where you can find the tool that will help you to fix incorrect scrobbling?
Photo of Cornel Diaconu

There's a negative side-effect: when I am in my library, checking scrobbles for an artist, if I click on an album's link (from my library...) I get directed to album's page ! I would expect to gop still in my library, on the page with that album's detailed scrobbles !
Now, after this update, the only means to check detailed album's scrobbles is to click on the number of scrobbles of that album (again, when I'm in my library).

Is this behaviour intended ?
Or rather some bug ?

Yes, this is the intended behaviour. Clicking on names will take you to that page, clicking numbers takes you into the library. You can also see all of the available links by selecting the three-dot menu on each row.

I agree - it's standardised but also more powerful that you can now directly go to the artist page, album page, AND your own library scrobbles from the same starting page, rather than solely being able to go to your library scrobbles. I genuinely think it makes more sense how it is now.

It IS a bit more difficult, Elliot .... I used quite intense even the previous delete option (the one hidden under the drop-down menu). And now, with this newer position as the lowest option in the menu, I tend to click on the first option and ... of course it's not what I intend :-)
Well, we'll adapt soon to the new format, of course.
