Website update - 28th June

Hello all,

We just released an update. Here's what was in it:

Play buttons on the live charts

We've added play buttons (where supported) to tracks and albums on our live charts.

Improved pagination

We've improved the functionality of our pagination controls. It's also possible to jump to particular chart positions in your library. This makes it easy to answer questions like "who is your 100th most listened to artist?"

Attendees you know in event lists

All event lists now include a summary of users you know that are interested/attending.

Bulk add artists to event lineups

It's now much easier to create festival lineups.

Close button for floating videos

You can now close videos that play in the bottom corner of the page.

Cheers,
Team Last.fm

very nice update:

Bulk add artists to event lineups > I like that one a lot, even if i don't use it as oft as I used to when festivals was more my thing.

Attendees / followers visible also a nice touch.

Also the close button on the video, a good improvement

what's next?
Venue editing?
Venue duplicates flagging for deletion?

Excellent, yet not monumental update. So I'm very glad - pagination is great. Only one tip which came to my mind: maybe give us additional field to write site we want go into? (it'll be useful for people with so many sites that even clicking every six pages next won't found specific easily)

A very poor example:

I was wondering is possible to implement this for comments? I'm aware of scrobbling activity, I was wondering is it possible to do something like this on comment pages?

Pages with tags, shouts, loved tracks, similar artists, following/ followers, photos, for example, could benefit from a "Go to page X" option.

Do it if you can Jon; an exceptional suggestion James Joul gave us.

That's in progress. We're aiming for next release, but it depends on whether it passes testing.

The quick reposition in the library (that "Jump to position" button) seems to be implemented only in the tracks/artists/albums pages in our libraries.
It's not there on the scrobbles list in the library, and not on some particular list of scrobbles of an artist, either.
Like in this capture:

Is this by design, or something that slipped, and needs some correction later ?

My guess is that scrobbles is supposed to be chronologically. If you jump to position 100 in the tracks list, you also get position 100 of your top scrobbles, so it's basically the same. I agree that the design would look more consistent if it had the same options in every tab. There should be an option to jump back in time.

Afaik, it's by design.  Top Artist, albums, and tracks, in your library are ranked by scrobble count.  It make sense to jump to specific chart positions on these pages, so you can answer questions like "What is my 1000th most scrobbled artist?".

Whereas the Recent Scrobbles page is ordered by timestamp.  What does "Jump to position 1000" mean in this context?  When would you ever need to look up the 1000th track from your current scrobble?  Maybe there's an obscure edge you can think of or out of curiosity, but I think for scrobbles ordered by timestamp, it makes more sense to navigate using dates  (what did I scrobble last week? what was my top album last year? What was my favourite song in 2008? etc) -- which is why we have the calendar navigation at the top of the page.

Now, if it were jumping to specific scrobble milestones, that's answers an interesting question (e.g. "What was my 1000th scrobble?") -- I think that would be more useful and makes more sense for the recent tracks page.  The only caveat I can see is that it work in the opposite direction to the jump navigation on other library pages.

Please, we all love the last.week function. I want to see a last.month function too. I believe that a month statistic could be great.

I like the option of "Various Venues" for those festivals which spread all over a town over one or more days, e.g. the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, Germany. Will there be an option to add the correct venue for each artist on these festivals, too?
