Hi everyone,

We've just released some things. Let me tell you about some of them...

Recommended New Releases

If you're logged in, we'll now filter New Releases based on the music you listen to. We'll recommend you releases by artists you already listen to, plus artists we think you'll like.

https://www.last.fm/music/+new-releases

Improved user lists

We now show a snippet of users' bios in lists, and we make it easier for you to follow/unfollow them.

https://www.last.fm/user/_/neighbours / https://www.last.fm/user/_/following

Popularity score

You can now see how popular an artist is when you visit their page. The new popularity badge appears on the top 100 artists and shows their rank based on listeners in the last week.

https://www.last.fm/music/Kendrick+Lamar

Timezone detection

If you don't have a timezone set, we'll try and guess it for you.

Set your timezone at https://www.last.fm/settings/website

"Going" counts in event lists

You can now see how many people are going to an event from any event list.

https://www.last.fm/events / https://www.last.fm/user/_/events

Notable Bugfixes

  • Fix for shoutbox character limit
  • Update playerbar status when YouTube ad is playing

Cheers,
Team Last.fm

Thanks for the update! Any news on the "allow users to disable auto-correct" bug that you've been working on for a while?

This is part of the catalogue and corrections work that the team intend to address later in the year.  For now, turning corrections off will only apply to recent tracks, and sections of the library that display your scrobbles in chronological order (i.e. the default view).

Thanks for addressing this Jon. It's good to have some idea of the time-frame. Is it possible to reveal a (rough) specification of the expected behaviour and user-options when this work is done?

This is the only thing that peaked my interest.   "This is part of the catalogue and corrections work that the team intend to address later in the year."

I wish we had an ETA on this.

Finally, I can unfollow old friends who have deleted their accounts!

I look forward to using the recommended releases. It should help pick up anything I miss from my other two personalised sources of new music. Are there any limitations to this, other than needing data to be imported to your catalogue? Usually, I'll get between 100-200 new tracks released each week for artists I follow but this page looks very empty in comparison. Also, the last batch of new music is from the 18th of May - almost 2 weeks ago.

It's my personal playlist. I create one each week and share it out with a few friends. I compile it using Swarm.fm and the Spotify Companion App. They both use Spotify's API to collect new releases from artists I'm following.

Here's the playlist:

I guess my reply wasn't clear enough.

For new releases, we show 100 most relevant releases from all the releases in last 3 months. You can order those based on relevance score or release dates.

Oh, that's a shame. 100 releases over 3 months is not a lot. About 1 release per day.

Sure, it averages out to that per day, but albums aren't really released like that. They're usually released on Friday.

Yeah, I'm aware. 1 per day, 7 per week. Same total. Not enough to make this feature useful to me, unfortunately. My taste spans most genres, but I listen to a lot of indie pop and a significant portion of my new releases are singles.

It's a shame Last.fm often penalises heavy users with larger libraries by limiting results - whether that be in the library, recommendations, or in this case, new releases.

users' bios in lists make all look messy, too much information that i don't need there

Same. Although it's really nice addition, messy look of it makes it a bit uglier than it was.

Put that in a userstyle and it's gone.

Shoutboxes aren't currently working on artist images or album artwork pages.

Nice upadate. But how long do we have to wait for scrobbled artists in an alphabetical order? Search engine would also be a good idea to find a particular artist in a library.

Good memories. That old layout looks so dated now, but surprisingly neat and tidy!

You're not alone Tom Stephen you're not alone. I have the same desire that one day they will return this old layout back. Also, does anyone remember this http://archive.is/h4Flx and this?

That looks like crap quite frankly. 2005 called, they want their web design back. I much prefer the current design, if not the comparable lack of features.

Good work but please... bring back the groups. It's been almost 2 years now it's so hopeless.

All tags corrections suggested by that form have already been fixed or will they still be fixed in the next few days? I have suggested some and they continue with capitalisation wrong! But thank you very much for arranging the tags were really very bad, I hope the suggestion option as in the past will come back soon too! Good job ;)

I think it's cool that you're trying to bring some news to the site, but it seems like you're leaving simple problems aside, or tools you had in the old lastfm. The tags remain horrible, we can not delete artist, artist redirections, so many other simple problems that should be fixed with more priorities!

Why are you still adding new features instead of fixing the existing bugs? I still cannot add new venues, because 'Adding new venues is temporarily disabled'. This means many many of my events have the wrong venue.

There are several users in my Neighbours list with the "+" icon next to them, even though I am already following them.

Thanks for the heads-up, this page doesn't seem to show the correct follow status at the moment. We'll look into it.

Cheers,

Recommended new releases! Finally! =)

Thanks for that. I have the feeling that the updates are finally getting more useful now. If event venue creation is in the next update, things will already look a bit better.

Although I said it before, it's great new update. I realised this is even better after trying today "new releases based on my taste" and it gave me information about new Funker Vogt album which I totally missed, so... thank you so much!

Nice!

This update didn't exactly bring what I've been waiting for for a long time, but it's a neat one. I particularly like the recommendations update.

I'm still eagerly awaiting (the return of) some features, such as the ability to choose your own display picture for an artist, the ability to remove tracks, albums or artists with a single click, or the return of the sidebar.

Great update LFM! I like the Recommended new releases part (making great use of)  and how you've made it easier to delete unwanted followers (though I knew how to get around this before)  ;-)  Good to see how many are 'going' and how many are 'interested' in coming events section too.  Thanks LFM.  :)

Great update! But about the badges, why stop at 100? why not 500 or 1000? or more?

I appreciate all of these updates - even if I have no use for the "top artists" one specifically. I don't think I've ever played a top 100 artist in my life, and I have no idea who that current #1 is. Yes, it feels good.

Hi, I found another bug. When I go to the neighbourspage, there are also people in there I already follow, but still the icon is a red cross. I guess this is an error.
