We've updated shoutboxes to allow replies and voting. This is available to subscribers now and will be available to everybody soon. See our announcement post for more details.
  • Neighbours are back!
Find your Last.fm musical neighbours - users with similar taste to you.
We're currently working on additional shoutbox features and some other bits and pieces.

Cheers,
Team Last.fm

Thank you for bringing neighbors back. A small suggestion, I'd like to see the country an user/neighbor is from, it adds another dimension to the social aspect. It's also cool knowing someone on the other side of the world has a similar music taste as yourself.

I miss album-links on the playing lists (scrobbles). I hope it will become a native feature of the new last.fm site, but until then I have created a browser "userscript" as a fix. I think it is a great help in many cases:

(sorry - for reposting. I had by mistake first commented another comment instead of commenting original post)

We're living at the wonderful time when everyone can get offended for everything. You can't make a single one harmless joke because there is always some egocentric idiot without the sense of humour who will start calling you a racist, sexist, etc.
So you're deleting my comments and calling me a racist because of a little joke. Hell, I'm even listening to Asian Dub Foundation, and you're calling me a racist, lol.
Btw what's up with my Last.fm account? You've got offended THAT hard?

My advice to you would be to think twice before posting on social forums. People had all sorts of stereotypes in the past but younger generation needs to look beyond that. Racist jokes are very contextual. I would have taken it in light humour if I knew you personally. Also, on the forum it's hard to tell what is your real intention behind the comment.

We should respect the borders of humor. Our freedom ends where the human dignity and physical and psychological integrity could be touched.
No rasism, not hate, no violence. Easy to learn.
Every war or race hatred starts with harmless jokes. Later then nobody want to be responsible for the consequences.

It's like the situation when people got offended because of the word "nigger" in the movie "Django Unchained".
You're showing the behaviour of the hysterical kid by using your "power" of Last.fm employee to ban the people which offended you (well, they didn't, but you think so). It's pathetic.

Didn't have time for this shit.
So what's it - permanent or temporary ban?

Yay for neighbours! But, for me at least, there won't be any functionality for this until we get Neighbour RADIO back. What's the use of looking at compatible people, one by one? Bring both Neighbour and Friends (or, as you are now calling them, followers) RADIOS back, and this long-time subscriber will begin to feel like Last.fm is becoming useful again.

Beneath the radio, you can explore the library for new music. Based on the accordance it is plausible, that your neighbours listen to unknown music you like. Furtheron you can find people to talk about your favourite artists etc. like you've done in groups.

No, I don't want to scroll through, or listen to, the individual libraries of many different people. I want to listen to a mix of selections from all of their libraries, as used to be possible with both Friends and Neighbours radios. That was my favorite feature of Last.fm and led to many new music discoveries. Hope to hear an ETA on the restoration of this top-tier feature of the service.

I think filter with searching neighbours only by "loved" songs will be great, and same for recommended songs. Can you please add this in future?
The only songs i love i have in my "loved" section.
Many of my old scrobbles is crap for me now, and i cant find something very good, based on junk..
Or at least clearing scrobbles will be good idea.
Anyway, very very good update! Thanks for your work, wish to see this site as greatest of all music search sites

Until you don't put out again the possibility of seeing who's attending the same event as you, these improvements seem pointless. This is very bad. One year. One year without. With the promise of implementing them before the summer. It's already summer.

As a very addicted lastfm user, well, I've to admit, this is a tragedy.

James mentioned in the thread about new shoutboxes that he is working on notifications for shoutbox replies at the moment, but did not specify if these would come as emails or PMs.

Are you going to fix neighbours where it is actually up to date? I have people who don't use lastfm anymore and a couple of profiles from people who never scrobbled? :|

Hi staff,
Thanks for bringing back the neighbours, love this functionality!

In the pre-2015 last.fm there was an option/tab on the artist pages which showed how many scrobbles your friends/followers collected for an artist. Maybe it is possible to implement this function in the current website as well? Would be so great to see more stats of the people you are following, I miss them. It would be also fantastic if the attending list on a event will be clickable, so that one can see which friends/followers are going to the event. Just like it was before.
Thanks in advance.

Check out the "Friends Who Listen" browser extension for Chrome, Opera and Firefox. Last.fm will reintroduce this feature later, also event visitors.

Checked out the neighbours for a  third or fourth time but each time I find a lot of users who have either not scrobbled much in the past 90 days or some with whom I have a few artists in common but they have listened only a few tracks of those artists.

Could this feature be tweaked such that only folks who have listened to anything in the past 7 days are listed?

... or list of users who's all time favourites artists / albums or tracks which are somewhat similar to mine

The way it is now, I have little interest in it.

same here... i noticed that it only took me a few scrobbles to suddenly become SUPER with someone who listens to that artist a lot. Plus most of my neighbours don't even use the website anymore.
