Hey all,

Today we released Sprint 197 and Sprint 198. This includes one big thing, your Last.year listening report.

The report features a whole bunch of stats around your listening habits, and other Last.fm activity, from 2016. We're really excited about this feature and hope you like it.

You can see your report here: http://www.last.fm/user/_/listening-report/year

Cheers,
Team Last.fm

This is fantastic for stats nerds like me.

I do have to agree though, there is still a lot of work to be done but I am loving the direction this website is going in and very grateful to all of the staff who works so hard to get this right for us.

Happy 2017!!

It will be cool to add more unique  analytics chart: for ex - artist by country or the same, but most popular album by year  (1975 - 9%, 1991 - 18%, 2010 - 35%,)

Very pretty.

For the next sprint, please could you fix the autocorrect checkbox so that I can switch it OFF. Call me fussy, but too many 'corrections' are simply wrong, and I don't like it.

Nice to see, that you also like this useful tool "personal tags". I'm missing it the most. Luckily we were already informed, that "tags will come back". We also been teached, that to ask for a date of release only "will make the wait feel longer". In between enjoy the new "last.year". It's not the tool you need, but the tool is neat. ;-)
I'm confident, until the return of the personal tags you can enjoy some more new neat features like this, so don't worry, be happy.

Looks like I have to learn more english for writing more clear sarcasm comments like above.
But sadly you're right Imajica. Every month of waiting for things like this is like a slap in the face for me. Especially when every other thing will be updated than the features we request. That's the way I currently feel when I think about the tags. And that's what the last comment should say. Currently I'm frustrated, when I think about, what will come at next. I'm sure you share my opinion.

This is very nice, thank you guys! :)

It can be improved and expanded even more as time goes on and it would be nice to see such stats whenever we wish throughout the year and obviously this must include the December plays too.

Nice feature I like it. Thankyou !!  Would it be too much to ask for this info all year round in a stats page ? This for me would soften the blow of losing the "About Me" section which had stats just like this in !

I like the Last.year overview / listening report, and I like my states in there too :)

I also notice that some bug(s) either have disappeared or at least do not happen as often.

one squased bug: the upload of images, the final step did not work until a page-refresh was done, an image was (re-)selected and than uploaded.

another squased bug: the finalizing an event entry, here also a page-refresh was needed before entering data in the comment-fields and than hit the create button. Not sure if that one has been squased or is just less frequent.

One bug is still there on events: unable to remove and act that has been added, even unable to remove an act that has been mearly looked up.

Let's be honest here, this is a nice little feature that no one really asked for (at this moment). We're still missing most of the basic features! This is just steering away from the real problems and is meant to create this illusion between users that Last.fm is actually getting back on its feet... which I doubt is true. I've been an active scrobbler since 2006 but each day I see less and less point in scrobbling

The yearly report looks delicate; I cannot deny that, on the other hand, your skills of scorning our demands and delivering us cute essence that nobody has requested are despicable! As twinkies said: This is simply a dog bone to stop the barking. Phenomenal job Last.FM as always.

Is there a way to regenerate them? Due too a scrobbler bug I scrobbled the same track 1400 times in a day and just had to clean that up (Shoutout to: https://www.npmjs.com/package/lastfm-unscrobbler) but now my yearly charts are still inaccurate with one artist being all over the place. Any way to regenerate them, how long are they cached?

I dig this year in review, especially the "On Repeat" part. That def should be it's own feature cause sometimes I want to revisit songs I used to be hooked on.

Cool tool and I guess a lot of the code can be reused for a lot of statistics.
Perhaps not an impressive, major update, but I guess it only took one front-end developer to make it and the work on the rest of the site still continues.

What makes you think they have more than one part-time intern dev?

So, even by your logic, Jim, the rest of the staff should have been working on something else this past month, and yet they have nothing to show for it - not even minor bug fixes.

This update is even more underwhleming when you consider the fact that, thanks to the Christmas break, it'll probably be at least a month before we get another update. The next sprint really needs to have some decent bug fixes and/or the return of repeatedly requested features that the old site used to have.

But I'd argue there *is* no long term purpose. It's a bit of fun. Something you can read, share and forget. Personally, as a maths geek who uses last FM predominantly for the stats, I'm OK with that.
I'm sure most people are OK with that. I think the problem is that it took one month of development time to create. Time that could be managed better. The Last.year page is very basic, and it uses data that already exists. There are student programmers that create similar stats tools in their spare time faster than the Last.fm team. If this had taken a few days and the update was accompanied with important bug fixes and more progress on existing or anticipated features the response would be different.

I like to think that there's a reason for such little progress and I imagine there's a lot of behind-the-scenes work going on as well. Maybe a significant portion of development time this week was spent troubleshooting and fixing a bug somewhere in the system but wasn't interesting or important enough to feature in the update. This circles back to the limited communication. I'd like to know these things, because without that information it looks like the staff are doing nothing over there and then we can only speculate on why this is all they have after a month of work.

Yeah, that's true. If I was their scrum master I probably wouldn't be too impressed with that taking up 2 sprints. Does make me wonder how many devs they have on this full time, and how many are working on long term/side projects

This. 100% this.

Last.year should have been a fun little extra included with a proper sprint.

I should point out that many websites, newspapers , magazines and general media release their end of year reports about the same time. I've just had my Spotify end of year report( nowhere near as interesting as LFM's one).
@George336: Right, furthermore it is interesting that Spotify chose a different distribution method this year with emails than previously with a separate site with statistics, probably because they couldn't handle this for all of their users anymore. It takes a lot of time and resources processing the data to create these personalised yearly stats overviews, so sites offering them have to start early for being on time in December.

Spotify is even unable to resend these emails in case you weren't subscribed to notifications on Dec 2nd, so those users will not see their data at all except for a personal Top 100 Tracks playlist under Browse / Genres&Moods / Wrapped 2016.

Yeah, I see more dead profiles and than active ones. Also, the fact that I keep hipster neighbours makes no sense to because I have nothing in common with people who listen to rap, pop, numetal, core bands or indie music.

So lastfm is tricking us by taking over a month to do updates and calling it two sprints for one lousy update that I could have done without?
