This conversation is no longer open for comments or replies and is no longer visible to community members. The community moderator provided the following reason for archiving: This has just devolved into bickering, accusations, and conspiracy theories.

This social network is no longer the same. Positives and negatives of the "new" site! Let's cut to the Chase...

✔ PROS:

1. The new look of the site is elegant and beautiful ✌
2. The albums now appear in the profile ✌
3. Preview mode of the albums and artists on the improved profile ✌
4. Weekly tables are updated more quickly ✌
5. Notes of the Metacritic appear on the site ✌

✘ CONS:

1. The groups were removed ☹
2. Library displayed in "list mode" (display in "grid mode" removed) ☹
3. Friends were transformed into followers ☹
4. Gallery of artists dominated by users that have more than 100 fake accounts ☹
5. Support for title correction still does not work ☹
6. The "about me" no longer works with BB Code ☹
7. The new system message ended with the interaction of the fans in the message box of the artists ☹
8. People who attend an event no longer appear ☹
9. The recommendations system has become a real mess. Artists, albums and tracks are all mixed together ☹
10. Tracks are automatically corrected even with this function disabled ☹
11. Labels removed ☹
12. MusicManager removed ☹
13. Still no Latins Americans moderators ☹
14. Ideas and suggestions of the users are just ignored ☹
15. Two years have passed and the site has not been finalized (although he left the be Beta) ☹

Along the time the Last.fm but regressed than progressed. That's all...

No, no one from Last.Fm cares about this. And with every new unnecessary feature come problems to other things that didn't work. They are even not be able to fix the problem to use the letters ü/ö/ä in the tags since 1 1/2 year. No one from them cares about the problems the user report.

Repeatedly begging for the staff to bring back old features comes across as borderline cyberbulling. But what most of us consider cyberbullying is attacking another user just because they have different beliefs.

For example, a user says that he actually likes the new site. How would you respond?

a) Hurt his feelings by attacking him with harsh words
b) Say that you respect his opinion, but he's part of the minority
c) Ask him why he likes the new site

In my opinion, you are harassing the staff to bring back the most popular features. And yes, harassment IS considered a form of bullying.

Instead of complaining 24/7 about the website, why not try improving the site yourselves? Album covers, artist bios, YouTube videos, events, and artist photos are all good places to start.

The term cyber-bullying is used by some trolls on the internet as an excuse to feign abuse on well known reputable websites.

other well known uses for such slang are:

...distracting attention away, from important topics...

and

...shutting down proactive discussions...
-----

i have also been a contributer for obscure music, when time permits...i post videos, update wikis for artists like www.last.fm/music/.rod+laver

anyone can pitch in. by posting video links from youtube, people can play it via radio...or at least hear the music

many independant artists lost radio play sadly...

Agreed with virtually all of this, so I hate myself for just having renewed my subscription after a year and a half of 'punishing' Last.fm by unsubscribing. The fact that I'm allergic to advertisement spam was a factor there; I just couldn't take it anymore, and I can't ditch Last.fm altogether, as much as they probably deserve it.
Only one point I would scratch from that list: no. 19. What's the point in adding artists you haven't scrobbled?
Other than that, I'm with you. I still miss my old 'about me', the group I ran, and my library with hundreds of pages of (rectangular!) pictures every day.

When I've gone down the rabbit hole of similar artists I like to add artists temporarily as a reminder to check them out later.
Others add them to represent what they enjoy but don't have time to listen to. Still others add them to represent what they listen to on devices/programs that can't be scrobbled from.

You'd think that CBS would put some effort into it considering they paid £140 million for the site.
They could put the ability to add/vote for artists' photos behind the subscription. That would make them some more cash and solve the bot problem as well.
Maybe give subscribers square profile photos & bbcode 'about me' also.

There are so many things they could easily be doing to make the site healthier.

"No significant revenue model = no corporate support = no significant developer resources."

Well maybe if they would actually do something relevant towards the site's progression for once (like adding back old features, dealing with the ad situation, getting better subscriber perks), maybe more people would be willing to use the site/subscribe versus abandoning/deleting their accounts instead?

you have to think the way the suit & tie guy thinks.....last.fm is like the dead remains of a lost harvest season in a factory farm...too big to fail, to much lost revenue to throw away all remains....the solution is to milk it for what its worth....sell the animal guts, to be turned into hot dugs by fellow corporations (E.G sell radio as youtube\spotify) then get all the locals to work the farm for free....(not illegal imigrants \ fans are cheap laborers)....if you think about it, the dividends just might be adequate...who really cares about those minorities or the poor?...they can form thier own multi million dollar corporation ;)

Dear Twinkies,

First of all, it's very naughty of you to bring Ajax into this. Jasmin doesn't like that sort of thing.

You've been asking for art for 15 months? I'm sure you're correct but not everyone has asked for that and, moreover, that's hardly been the only user request. . I mean, check the list that heads this thread. Gotta say though that I don't understand why cover art is so important to you. It's not as if lack of art on a website detracts from the art you're listening to. It's not as if art for albums and specific tracks were fully accessible on the old site. You'll say that This is incorrect but I remember loads of blanks where images should have been. I've had no problem uploading art on the new site. None whatsoever. However, I appreciate that sometimes this might be difficult but the difficulty is not necessarily the fault of this website.

I must thank you for recommending that I take some lessons in Modern English and look forward to meeting the tutor who tells me that modern English is just like ye olde English but slightly different in that words are mangled together to produce incomprehensible sentences. I'll let you know how I get on. Xxxx

Dear Ajax,

It certainly isn't my intention to have this forum shut down. However, what normally happens is this.

1) A user posts a whinging thread to add to the other five hundred.

2) Several users agree with the theme of the thread.

3) A user does not agree and says so.

4) The users that agreed with the theme of the thread turn on the user who disagrees with it.

5) The user with the voice of dissent stands his or her ground.

6) And then A user, maybe two, says something abusive that is considered by some as beyond the pale.

7) The thread is then shut down.

THis scenario isn't unique to Get Sat; it happens all over the net. And it's not the likes of Jasmin, Tiffs, your good self or me who is responsible. No, it's always some twat who can't control himself.

lets be open minded, and honest...bad feedback is good feedback...because that's how any progress is made, its also called democracy not dictatorship.

so if the trolls wish to shutdown a feedback thread, there is only 100,000 more to go.

i hope this thread gets 1000+ posts to attract beyond obvious attention.

in the end, once we leave, or the company decides to purge remaining info of thier servers. they'll realize they lost more money ignoring users interests.

they forget, if they cut off the "other" category, angry customers may form new startups...and possibly hurt future business...

"Far from dead".
Of course you are right - for majority of the bands/artists the shouts almost died (apart from the current or biggest pop/rock ones) and they used to be full of comments before beta.

Also, if you look at the music trends for majority of the bands it clearly shows a major decline in scrobbles after launching the beta - isn't is the biggest sign of all?

Users are not inclined to go back because majority of social things are not back and probably never will be.

New users...wait, what new users? What incentive someone should have to join last.fm? I have around 150K scrobbles accumulated over past years - it's the only thing keeping me here. Site itself went total downhill and declines slowly towards "money lost on this one, let's keep it live for some time and shut down when users won't even notice".

So, yeah - site is just bursting and better than ever, man!

just wait...the only reason your here...posting and reading this in a support forum, or even caring...is what you call "your information" is still here...if your the majority of users...you tend to think, last.fm is "your" music site...that you may have it back eventually...

its not "our" music page, we do not own Last.fm...the only reason we don't go elsewhere, is there is nowhere else like "Last.fm" to go.

its like Myspace all over again...but no rival, like facebook...to take users in...

thats the only reason, last.fm isn't concerned "about you"...they aren't going to bankrupt, and sell the company to Justin Timberlake...

its hard decision to make, if last.fm was not a company, but some GNU based website. things would be different.

you have to remember, whats best for profit, isn't always in the best interest of you. its called marketing. thats just how life is...

....are the changes so far good or bad?, you decide...

i think, last.fm is doing well, will continue to thrive off of the methods many other websites are doing, like Myspace who literally mimics the same tactics...substituting Youtube for radio along with hosting many dead communities and thousands of inactive accounts.

this disaster was going to happen eventually, and i would say for those of us who clearly don't like this direction, to just give up. and accept the inevitable pesimistic fate.

...and don't contribute anything for free...unless moderators will be genuinely concerned with what were doing....that is something different...

~my 2 cents~

@Sodapop, you brought up an excellent point. I agree that mega media corporations are terrible, like these:

Remember when Universal Music bought the EMI label? The European court ruled that Universal was forced to sell off some of its assets because the company would take too much of the global market share. Then Warner Music agreed to buy some of EMI's artists, and they too were forced to sell some artists to indie labels.

Remember the terrible AOL Time Warner merger? The company lost so much money that they were forced to spin off Warner Music, a book publisher, and their Time magazine division.

Many of us know that Disney loves buying companies at random. The rights to Star Wars and Marvel Comics were very big news, but not without controversy. Disney is well-known for refusing to give away any of its rights, most notably extending the American copyright length to keep Mickey Mouse from entering the public domain.

And of course, we come to CBS' former parent company, Viacom. Around 2006, Viacom split into two companies, CBS and Viacom. As we all know, CBS acquired Last.FM in 2007 for over a hundred million pounds (don't remember the exact total). From 2010 to 2015 (which would be my earliest memories with the site), the site layout was more or less the same (choose red or black as your color, the music manager looked the same). Given that the forums and groups are in a read-only state, one would imagine those features should return sometime in 2017... UNLESS those empty-headed executives change their plans at random.

@12. MusicManager removed ☹ - reponse

(I will admit, i am still pretty pissed off about this feature being disabled)

...because popular Artists and Labels, still have "Complete Control" over thier band pages :0 :P

meanwhile we have to wait an estimated 2 more years while last.fm has hundreds if not thousands of indepedant artists that are supposed to say...oops, were screwed. :( :( :(

the whole aspect of last.fm as a start...for indepedant artists is dead, the feature is still there...technically only for the big players with the most $$$

this feature at least, should be restored immediately, for artists to revive, the many dead pages. we we should be entitled to ownership of our pages, not just wiki and youtubify\spotify everything.

@1. The groups were removed ☹ - response

(everyone is obviously upset about this feature still)

...yet, its not just for fun...its an important component to LFM.

like the Under 100 listeners group and others....groups like these were a huge help for struggling muscians. these groups were made by registered users (not the paid staff).

Many registered users, have contributed years worth of content, Tags, Stations, Wikis etc. they could be "you" or Silverlage, and TheArtistBox to name a few

if you beleve music should be in the hands of the artists...not the mass media companies, you may want to go elsewhere.

@ suggestions

it would be, nice if forum moderators, could respond more to negative feedback, than just black & white bug reports.

it would also be nice, to have a fair, polite sincere acknowledgement. or response. anything but something nasty.

though opinions aren't all that important...people do not just sign-up on the forums to complain.
there are bug-reports.... then, there are tough human questions...that are consistently ignored.

No, since the radio is gone (it's all Spotify or YouTube now) the MusicManager will not come back. You can still add tags, edit the bio and upload photos just as any user can. There is no difference between major and indie artists. It's the same for everyone.

To get playable tracks you will either have your music on Spotify (easy and free using something like Routenote) or make a video for YouTube (a tool like Sonic Candle, Freemake Video Converter or MVGEN can be used).

And for that matter, how large is the staff? 5 people? 10?
The number must be absurdly low for this site to still be in beta after ~17 months. (actually more than that, since the beta existed well before they forced it on us)

seeing the many comments blowing up in this thread. i find it absurd to see that out of all comments and responses how little progress is being made.

arguing, correcting, blaming and making accusations to different users have no merit in a productive support forum.

it should be the forum moderators /administrators job to provide assurance and aid to users of both positive and negative feedback without imposing any form of "conditions" or "discrimination".

its the moderators responsibility to cultivate a positively warm and polite, respectful atmosphere.

to put it quite blunt, the point of discussion is over when the moderators start debates simply orchestrated to prove who is wrong or right.

that in fact is a deceptive tactic employed by many companies via customer service , to avoid dealing with and/or talking to customers about key problems or subjects.

in other words, its easier (cheaper) to blame you, the customer.

if we misunderstand, or we are wrong. we should discuss the topic instead. we should ask forum users questions, instead of seeking a quick end. to a discussion by justifying blame or wrong doing.

One example of this, is a reply to my last post.
-------------------
@He's dead, Jim!, No, they don't.

then Ajax said:
--------------------------
@ajax, People in general here need to read comments in full; he (had a band on here) repeats himself sever times on page one of this thread;

ST3RST1K4R: "yeah, like give indepedant artists thier band pages back!"

So that is anything but "control" over a page that is gone or can not be designed anymore.

Last Fm response: "In the meantime, please read some further advice at our support site." Does that mean you are going to allow lesser known, unsigned, underground artist(?), the very artist that made this site grow in the first half of it's life" --- make pages and upload their music again and maybe see some growth, more important new music. Rather than find fault, answer some questions, because then we the user's go on fault finding with staff and volunteers and nothing proactive is produced.

its no surprise, that a simple reply like: (No, they don't) comes off as condensating to some.

i would rather expect a "more" serious conversation instead. with evidence, an explanation, and maybe some reassurances that things are cool

i would anticipate such reassurances as:

...us last.fm users, don't need to worry... this is what are team is working ATM. i will reply with further developments on our progress... thank you for choosing last.fm! :)

if you have any further questions, feel free to ask me here.
------------------------------
so..

if forum moderators, don't want to talk about things, but instead pick fights with members, then this support forum has gone bust.

i say to all the forum members, don't debate, rather instead, just leave...if moderators accuse you of gross nonsense. it just makes them look bad.

this is why websites like .yelp were created LOL

moderators should not argue... period, but i doubt anyone is getting fired today. or losing much productivity.

And additionally, regarding your point #9: Recommendations can no longer be deleted or marked "not for me" or whatever it said back in the old days. So my recommendations page is permanently clogged up by the same bunch of artists that I do not like and cannot remove, plus of course a good portion of artists I have already listened to and thus do not need recommendations about. Completely useless.

This conversation is no longer open for comments or replies.
