Hi there,

EliaSingsMiFaMi here - I agree with most complaints about the new version of Last.fm, but there is one huge problem I haven't seen addressed yet: events.

  • At the moment, the events I am attending aren't showing on my profile anymore, and trying to follow the link I always used just redirects me to my profile. Will they be put back where they were? I also can't attend any new events, but I figure this is probably because you're still sorting everything out.
  • I used to use Last.fm's events feature to keep track of the shows I was going to - most of all I could check conflicts out, and always keep an eye on the various dates in order not to miss anything and plan in advance. If I can't access to a list of the events I am attending how am I supposed to do it now?
  • The new website does not let you automatically select the area you want to check out events in. I am Italian, I live in London but I'm back in my own country for the summer. Let's say I want to check out what London has to offer in twenty days' time, when I am back - I can't, because the system is just listing shows near me. Will you fix this?
That's it, basically. I also hope I haven't lost my journals and notes since I kept a list of all the shows I went to in the past seven years, and I would hate to see that go. I would also love to be able to customize what my profile shows: if I want to let people know what music I listen to, I think it's better to show them the first, let's say, 50 artists I listen to rather than 5.

Thanks, looking forward to reading your answer.

This is also probably the main issue for me too. I REALLY REALLY HOPE they WILL bring back the old event system. ALL the events I have attended in past 10 years (since using last.fm) were there. Even the smallest ones. And I have no back up of that data. Losing that would be a disaster for me.

Use bandsintown and setlist.fm for events
Last.fm is DEAD now

Jornals are still available, though RSS are dead. Save 'em ASAP

This is just disappointing. The main reason I kept visiting this site were the facilities they gave us to keep track of interesting events nearby, and I'm not sure they gonna bring it back

It would be nice if the last.fm crew would actually give you an option to migrate or access the old data regarding events if they don't want to bring the function back. It was the only place where I kept a record of my events... from 2006 onward.

I am just SO disappointed...

Me too, main reason I use last fm is for events. I use it as diary and a planner for my gig trips. Will it ever come back? Wish we were given option to export before this change

It will come back.

Here is a link to an official statement: https://getsatisfaction.com/lastfm/topics/what-s-happened-to-my-events

I have seen people accessing their events by using google web cache. I have no idea how, though. Please let me know if you find out!

For events, use Songkick. Last.fm was never that good.

The number of errors in Songkick events are way far worse than those on last.fm. I'm waiting for that feature to come back to stop complaining. I had my full events attendance from 1997.

Will they be put back where they were?
-  It hasn't been built yet, but yes, you will be able to manage your event attendance (past and present).  Personally, I'd like to see us expand on events, and display a counter for how many times you've seen an artist live, and an overall event counter next to scrobbles and artists on your profile.  Not that I have any say in this, but it's always struck me as a fairly obvious thing to do. You should at least be able to attend events now.

If I can't access to a list of the events I am attending how am I supposed to do it now?
- The plan is to bring this functionality back as soon as possible (along with event creation), I'm sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime.

Will you fix this? [allow user to set location manually]
- Yes, being able to look up events for a specific location is useful, especially if you're planning a trip abroad. At the moment it's trying to get your location from your IP, and we've already seen reports from some users where the lookup is failing.  I see no reason not to support this, but it's a matter of time - the team have a lot to build over the next 6 months.

For now, there's a trick you can do to lookup events in a specific location, by hacking the url.

Simply add: ?latlong= and your desired co-ordinates to the end of either http://www.last.fm/events or http://www.last.fm/home/events

How do you get your desired co-ordinates? Type: latlong and your desired city into google.

For example, "latlong london" returns 51.5072° N, 0.1275° W.

http://www.last.fm/events?latlong=51.5072,0.1275
http://www.last.fm/home/events?latlong=51.5072,0.1275

-  I also hope I haven't lost my journals
Your journals haven't been lost, and they will come back properly in due course.  More information can be found here.

- I would also love to be able to customize what my profile shows
I'll pass this feedback on to the product and design teams.

6 months. Let that just sink in, folks. Six months. Half a year! How the hell can a beta go live six months before it's stable? You're on crack, if you think anyone will still be bothered in six bloody months!

If cbs was serious about getting/keeping lastfm going they'd be asking about what we were prepared to pay for and how£much.

But thanks for the latlong hack.
Is there a tag that we can filter by too?? Anyone know?

The geo-tagging doesn't work, just give me gigs in northern England, not where I live in Norwich. Useless.

Would northern England be http://www.last.fm/events?latlong=54....
But it is a bit pathetic.
This is the sort of thing a computer should be working out without us having to find and input numbers.

I think I'll be using ents24

I messed up the co-ords earlier, so the geotag does actually work! But as no new gigs have been added for quite a long time, and cannot be added now, the whole thing is *currently* useless ;)

lastfm seems pretty broken. Maybe £broke.
There are surely better sites for finding gigs now :(
Sites that actually seem to want to provide stuff.
ents24 is my fave for ease of use at the mo.

As Manchester is west of the Greenwich Meridian, use a negative value in the URL:

! Well spotted HJ. I must admit I've got so fed up with lfm I'd not even looked at the numbers.
Could you let someone know it it has picked up one event in Portsmouth, so there is something a bit wrong still.

What do you think of the ents24 Listings? Quite a bit more adaptable I find.

Why only 10 events for per page?

For instance, Justice is showing 13 pages of events in 2008. That's so annoying to browse through. It used to be only a few pages.

Please bring this up with the team.

Hi,

First off, congrats for the new website. It looks beautiful and performs much faster than the old one.

However, there's a missing feature that did not seem to make it into the new design. Either that, or I can't work out how to use it.

When going into the Events section, I used to be able to manually select the location as well as the date ranges for the events I was looking for. Now I can only see events for my location, starting with today's date.

The old way of doing things was especially useful when I had a trip planned outside the country and I wanted to see what are the events I could go to (recommended or not) for the period I was traveling.

Is there any way you could bring this functionality back? It was one of the main reasons I kept using Last.fm.

Thanks!

I can't change my event recommendation location, since I'm moving from Spain to Australia in a couple of weeks and I'd like to see which concerts are available there. I've been looking for a way to change my location for half an hour and it's just not there.

I'll be honest, this is really stupid that we have to manually input our coordinates to find an event in the location desired. Don't release a Beta that basically handicaps one of the main reasons people use your site - be practical. Now I'm going to follow the others to songkick. It's been a fun 10 years last.fm but your developers should have been more ready.

Is there any way to add another querystring to make it show ALL the events from a geolocation instead of only the recommended ones?

It is ridiculous to suggest that we manually enter coordinates to view other cities. Just scrap the geolocation nonsense and allow us to choose which city we want to look at

I don't have a huge problem with the geolocation stuff, but sometimes I know I'm travelling, and it'd be nice to just click something to see all shows in the city I'm headed too.

And still nothing... We are perfectly willing to pick our location from a list. Geolocation isn't impressing anyone, so scrap it.

It's been five months, and I still can't change my location to check out events in a different area. I'm going on an extended trip soon and want to check out if there's anything I'm interested in happening while I'm there, but I still can't so long after the beta launch!!

This is shocking. Six months later, and I still have to use a workaround to view events for the area in which I live.
I live in the north of England, but I'm being recommended events for London. Fix this, please!

I get no results using this workaround with co-ordinates for Manchester.  And yes, even if it did work, I would often use the events page to look at cities I was travelling to, so it would be good if it was simple to change for the user.

This used to be one of the key reasons I visited the site, it must be impacting people putting on local events too - my listening information means I found out about loads of events I never would have otherwise. Ents24 sounds good but doesn't have that.
