Friends are missing in new site: when the new site launched (and I think it's generally not an improvement) some of my friends were no longer "followers" or followed by me. That's pretty irritating.

Why even change from friends to followers/following? I see friends as a one-to-one connection, no reason to have it any other way in my opinion. Do they just want to mimic twitter/instagram etc?

Friends are now marked on the site as mutual followers (you follow them and they follow you).  If there are instances where your friends have not been imported as followers correctly we can look into this (let us know which friends), but otherwise this is by design.

Yes, in fact the problem is that people who WERE already my friends are no longer listed in followers or whatever.

I had 70 friends and now apparently follow 122 people. No idea who half of these people are. I may have left a comment on some of their profiles but never added them as friends. I'll just remove everyone at some point once this mess of a website allows me to do so.

I still can see my friends in Scrobbler, but not in my profile: zero. Besides, what about pending requests? Will they reappear to recipients despite this following/followers switch, maybe as a direct add?

Only 4 friends (followers / followings) now, dammit. Fuck last.fm Beta!
If this new last.fm does not change, I'll leave, too.
I signed the petition now..

I also have several friends who are not showing up among my following/followers. This isn't just another complaint, it's an issue that needs to be fixed. I can't say for sure but I think they might be the most recently added friends.

Of course its by design that the warm, personal term "friends" is now the cold, inhuman and mechanical term "followers".  Mirrors what's happened to the whole site.  You know, there's research out there showing that the heavy use of social media that characterizes the early 2000's is actually making neurophysiological changes in our actual brains. and nobody knows how or what we're changing in ourselves or what else we're losing in addition to the negative effects the researchers have identified, but general response seems to be "*shrug*".  Seems the negative effects have hit the so-called brains of those who run LastFM now pretty hard,,,

Since there doesn't seem to be anything like the old "what your neighbors/friends are now playing" anymore, why would anyone follow anyone else anyway? This discovery process was the main reason I used to use last.fm

I agree. I finally have time to poke around the new site and I'm missing the old Friends and being able to see what they're playing in real time the most.  I'm signing the petition to bring back old last fm.

I highly doubt a petition is going to do a thing. Those that forced this farce down our throats don't seem to give half a shit about their customers. I am no longer giving my money to this travesty. I hope I'm wrong, and the old site gets put back.

"...otherwise this is by design."
What kind of a bullshit official response is that? Yes, it's by design, YOUR design.
And Yes, you should be looking into it.
Just love the warm and fuzzy responses with that faint odor of arrogance.

I didn't sign the petition. I figured that my only actual value to last.fm is as a source of data, so I killed my account - why should I add value to them when they don't give me any? I exported my data with the libre.fm export tool and imported it there in about 30 minutes. I will admit that I haven't fully figured out libre.fm scrobbling from Plex yet, but I do feel that the open source project will actually engage with users.

Yeah, they're "followers" now. So upsetting. We just have to be like every other social media site out there, huh?

Please change this feature back. There's no logical reason for this change.

Nice profile pic. I agree there trying to appeal to a wider audience by making this some sort of social media. It'll never be like that

I see it as them giving up on being a social network. They nuked groups too. The features actually used for communicating between people have been stripped down to practically nothing, just PMs (and I'm not even sure if those still work).

This has been tagged by the admins as "Not a problem".

Uhh, yes, it is a problem. That's why everyone's bitching about it.

the fact they tagged this as "not a problem" just shows how out of touch and stupid the people making these decisions are. Aside from the fact that no one wants this stupid following/followers system, people are having actual problems with it

Yeah I had 298 friends, now I have 288 'followers'. Im wondering if this is a glitch, or it just means thats how many people have deleted their accounts so far. Either way I assume last.fm don't care they'll just see it as 'not a problem' I guess

People, listen. This issue isn't simply that our friends changed to followers, it's that we had friends who are no longer listed among our following and/or followers. I have a number of friends missing, too. Two different issues, please keep them separate.

Followers? Are we twitter now or something? What's the logic behind this?

Twitter is popular, therefore if we pretend to be Twitter we will also be popular! It's the basic second-tier social-network tactic of desperately aping whatever major network is currently hot, the same reason why deviantArt tried to make themselves look more like Facebook, then tried to make themselves look more like Tumblr. And it never works, because what gets people to use a specialized social networking site isn't the stuff they can do on the major ones, but the things they can't.

And let's not go into the wisdom of trying to turn around a money-losing site by mimicking a site that is also losing money...

My most recent three friends are missing from the following/followers list. It seems recent data is most affected in the transition.

Not only some my friends (who are now followers) are missing... I'll just simplify everything that is missing by saying that I can't even scrobble tracks. It doesn't matter if we're in the beta status or not, I should at least, be able to scrobble tracks. At least that. That's absurd. I only hope you haven't disabled the option to cancel my signature in this preposterous website.

Thoroughly weird that this is tagged as "not a problem". Because we aren't just talking about the "concept", it's something more concrete than that and it deals with the total (for me at least) disappearance of people I had as friends in my profile - consequently, all the messages some of them have sent are gone: shoutbox is blank. And so is my profile picture box. Checking a few profiles - because "luckily" I still have them in Scrobbler - situation is way better, so I'm afraid this is due to my account's very recent creation (less than a month ago). Sorry for being repetitive but this is something I hope you'll consider with more attention than a tag, moreover snooty like the one above.

Why do I have to join a rubbish spyware social network to comment on the rubbish broken site? Why have my friends been replaced by contacts? Does that mean any joe blow can follow me without permission? This is dehumanizing like when youtube changed friends to contacts (now redundant). Last.fm looks like Google+ for music with the fiddly circle pictures everywhere and complicated noisy interface, and it was forced on everybody like Google+. The parallels are scary. I think I will quit the internet, everything that was good is being broken.

This is just brutal, friends just disappearing. WTF Last.fm? Could you please let me add or remove my own followers? I'd sure don't need your help with that. And it isn't just once I've had to answer the question "Why did you unfollow me?" when I didn't unfollow anyone, or even have that intention. This is happening when I'm not even logged into Last.fm. I was at first disappointed with this BETA bullshit, but now I'm pissed off. I've been loyally paying money to this site for a few years, but since you have ruined a great website, and haven't brought any of the features back you said you would, you are about to lose a paying customer. What a shitshow this place has turned into.
Yours truly, Barry Effing Partington.

I discover music through friends and recommendations. Please, bring that back.
