Where have the RSS feeds gone?

For years I've been accessing an RSS feed of my latest scrobbles, from http://ws.audioscrobbler.com/1.0/user/<username>/recenttracks.rss -- as of about 18 hours ago this has vanished.  Where do the RSS feeds come from now?

Hi.

Is there any time set as to when RSS Feeds will be restored?

You're kidding, right? The question (lastfm has never answered) is rather *if* RSS feeds will be restored.

I always used Last.fm feeds for Event tracking since I joined. And still no news about that. It's a shame last.fm.

At least if there was some recent official answer on whether they are coming back or not so I/we can make plans.

If they are coming, then an approximate time would be great. It can't be that hard.

RSS is even more needed now that IFTTT is dumping support for the Last.fm channel.

Official Response
Hi everyone, sorry for the lack of an official response on this.

RSS feeds are currently not available through the new API, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused by this.  I've asked the team to update the api documentation to reflect this, to prevent any further confusion.

As for whether they will come back, and if so when, I'm afraid that is still to be determined.  We know that rss feeds are important to a lot of people and we'd certainly like to bring back some of the more popular feeds in the future, when time permits.  However, at this present time, development on the website and building the new catalogue is taking up the majority of the development team's time; so regrettably we're unable make any guarantees about which feeds might come back and when.

What would help in the meantime is if you can tell us which feeds you've been using the most and for what purpose.  Last.fm used to offer ~30 different feeds, some of which were seldom used.  What we're hearing in this thread and other feedback channels is that get recent tracks is the most important feed for the majority of people, followed by events recs / calendar sync. Would you say that's correct?

I think the most important are
  • Recent Tracks
  • Events/Calendar sync
  • Weekly Top Tracks
  • Weekly Top Artists
  • Monthly Top Tracks
  • Monthly Top Artists
  • Overall Top Tracks
  • Overall Top Artists
  • Loved Tracks
Maybe add Top Albums as weekly/monthly/overall feed, but that is less used I believe.
But then it would be very much complete.

I've never used the RSS feeds previously, but I would definitely do so in the future, considering the dedicated Last.fm channel on IFTTT will be disabled. Apart from recent tracks I'd say loved tracks and overall top tracks are most important to me personally.

Server side PHP code. Here's the source. Fill in the variables at the top including the lastfm API key and then give it an appropriate file name on your php hosting.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Update on fixing RSS feeds needed.

(1) The last.fm channel on IFTTT is going dark March 23rd.
(2) RSS from last.fm is still listed on the API pages, but is not functional.

If last.fm RSS is still not working - there will be no way to post out to other services.

---
We need a milestone date for either fixing the RSS feeds or taking the API pages offline (as they no longer reflect the functionality of last.fm as a service.
---

When will RSS be fixed?Quote from email received from IFTTT this morning.

"We have been busy bringing improvements to the IFTTT platform. Because of these technical updates, some Channels will no longer be supported.

On March 23rd, the following Channels and their Recipes will be removed from IFTTT: App.net, BuzzFeed, Campfire, Diigo, Etsy, ffffoundLast.fm, Readability, Yahoo Fantasy Sports, and Yammer."

For me it's going to be:
  1. Recent Tracks (including now playing or last played)
  2. Events/Calendar sync
  3. Weekly Top Tracks
Is there any word on if any of your website widgets will be making a return? We use them extensively on a couple projects..

As most stated, recent tracks RSS feed is a must and events / cal a close second.

THANK YOU for posting this, harviek!!! This is awesome :)

For anyone interested: this feed is a perfect replacement for the now defunct Last.fm channel on IFTTT. I used the old channel mainly to automatically add every new loved track to a specific Spotify playlist and thanks to thexiffy's feed (and the RSS channel on IFTTT) this is now working perfectly again, yay!

damn. there is no chance to get events back, is there? The rotten and broken API documentation is still online. And no one even bothered to hide the friggin API link on the bottom of the main site.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Where are the widgets and RSS feeds.

Our RSS feeds and embedable widgets have all stopped working..  Is there a planed fix / migration to the new site?

From the page at http://www.last.fm/api/feeds RSS feed: http://ws.audioscrobbler.com/1.0/user/PPNStudio/recenttracks.rss

Widget URL: http://www.last.fm/widgets/?colour=black&chartType=recenttracks&user=PPNStudio&chartFriends=1&from=code&widget=chart<br>or<br>http://www.last.fm/widgets/popup/?colour=black&chartType=recenttracks&user=PPNStudio&chartFriends=1&from=code&widget=chart&resize=1

How do we get them working again, or when will they be working again??

Thanks in advance.

Given that this thread is two years old, I don't think the feeds will be coming back anytime soon.

I wrote a Perl program that creates an RSS feed using the API.

Didn't you read the previous replies in this thread?

In my WordPress widgets, the xiffy.nl URLs work.

Recent tracks: https://xiffy.nl/lastfmrss.php?user=[username]
Recently loved tracks: https://xiffy.nl/lastfmrss.php?user=[username]&loved
