Why go LIVE with an UNFINISHED site?

Why do you torture the last few suckers who still use (and subscribe) to your service?  If you want us all to leave, just close the site.  It is an absolute insult that this lazy, buggy, user-unfriendly sham of a redesign is being forced upon us without it even being finished.  Not one single user suggestion was implemented since the Beta began, and no improvements made to the Beta in 6 months.  The site is now unusable.  Great job, you should be proud of yourselves!  Take a bow for this mess!!

As said, when the first Alpha/Beta was launched to look at. It was mentioned in the forum as well as the new platform that all .. ALL journals and  Groups would be wiped.  Also it was mentioned that IF you had something to save from either a group or journals  you should copy and paste into some text editor for safe keeping.  Till ... TILL the journal function comes back and as well the groups.  In the mean time, you could make a new document save it then when the journal function comes back, just copy and paste. Back into your new journal.

This is appalling.  Where have the groups gone?  What is the point of a social network with no social functionality any more?!

I think that the new site is terrible. I had no problems with the previous design. I may have to stop scrobbling because of the awful redesign.

Journals and Groups  will be coming back  in the forum and the platform news page ... as well as staff and mods saying  IF you want to keep any info regarding Journals or Groups Copy and paste in a text editor. Once Journals and groups along with Profile "about me" becomes fully functional once again Simply copy and paste your stored info. However with groups you must start over as all has been wiped.

The old forums, support groups, journals, your About Me's have all been archived on http://www.last.fm/forum etc. in read-only mode, so you don't even have to depend on your text backups in case you have made them.

The current "502 Bad Gateway" problem with that archive link is probably some DNS issue between old and new servers, but this will be fixed soon, and you will have access to it, so you can simply copy & save your stuff from there.

Preach.

Where's my friends? Posts? Neighbors? Not even going to get into how ridiculous the overall site appearance is. Actually, I will. What's the deal with the ad to substance ratio being 1:1? Why are there only 5 top artists? What's the point of having FIVE artists? I can't even tell a person's music taste with 5 artists. Bring back the lists of artists. Please. Before you burn this site to the ground.

Too right! And because people's tastes change over time, somebody might just have 5 artists at the top that aren't representative of their current musical preference... Also, I can't quite put my finger on it but the sight gives me a headache just LOOKING at it... I think it's because everything seems so disconnected and just thrown on a page so that you can't focus properly on what the hell you're trying to look at... God damn this 'beta' crap.

If it's not broken, don't attempt to fix it with a half-ass functional beta.

with every beta program or live beta their is a time that programs MUST go live to make sure all is functioning according to plan. Once this is done, then other items will be restored to full function.  Think of it this way... As you know when you download a new app or program, the installer points out to you to: Turn off all other programs running. You are also instructed to run one new program at a time.  This is to see if anything in the new program is conflicting with other software on your computer.  Therefore it's much easier to locate the problem and fix it.  This is the stage LFM is on now.. making sure of no problems. This is why your about me is only simple text for awhile. Chill-Lax take a breath.

Autumn, I'm sure most of us understand this to some degree, but the total lack of functionality or any kind of logical design means that this site isn't ready for a live Beta, not by a LONG shot. Still feels like an Alpha build with very little cohesion in page design even before the other issues

I understand, I do know LFM has been working for over a year on this site. Remember as well this is not just a redesign but the big difference is under the hood.. Think of it like taking a car on a test drive before you buy.  Yes of course Ewen, it will have an awkward feel to it.  With the new engine under the hood many of the problems that once occurred on here, such as the site being down.. Only to come up and then break down once again will now be a thing of the past. I have been advise that LFM has/ have been working on each artist having their own page.  LFM is also having to deal with limited partners such as other music media hookups and their tagging system.  By the way since the "go Live" happened .. News feeds from major players in the music critic world of web design .. have given a thumbs up for the new design. Seems more web sites are following LFM lead.  I know I was surprised too.  As far as the design goes I can take it or leave it.  I have been on this site since 2005.. I have seen people come and I have seen people go and then come right back as they are addicted to the scrobbler. :-)  Ewen  just relax and watch history being made  right here right now,..Then you can say I remember when .......... Just try to enjoy the ride.. My best to you, Autumn

"working for over a year on this site"

Wow. I mean really, WOW. A whole year, and this mess is the best they've come up with? I'm at a loss for words. They've basically downgraded the site on all possible levels, and you're trying to tell us all that we should appreciate the absolute piss poor job these people have done? I'm sure the people working on the new website are not evil people and to at least an extent have their hands tied by CBS, but in the end they are the ones responsible for the website to at least work properly.
To me it seems the development team have been on a long, long vacation since May, and only recently during the last couple of weeks begun to do some work on the scrobbling and playcount. Not to sound even more dramatic than I already do, but their work is totally dreadful on every single level, a total catastrophy.

"With the new engine under the hood many of the problems that once occurred on here, such as the site being down.. Only to come up and then break down once again will now be a thing of the past."

I believe it when I see it. And, I'd take an old buggy site that is down from now and then any day of the week over this nightmare they've created, even if it should run smooth without any problems whatsoever. That's how uninteresting and unfriendly to users this new mess is.
Especially the decontruction of the library is what might make me leave this site for good. The new library has sucked the life out of the site and killed 95% of my interest in using lastfm. I would really, really like to hear the explanation from whoever came up with the idea for the new downgraded library.

" watch history being made  right here right now"

History is being made alright. THAT I think we all can agree on... :-/

"News feeds from major players in the music critic world of web design .. have given a thumbs up for the new design."

Ok, here's how some of the articles on the new design start:

"It’s probably fair to say none of us use Last.fm quite as much as we once did."
"Remember Last.fm?"

These are not Last.fm users or even lovers talking. Many of us who visited the site on a daily basis since years ago haven't forgotten Last.fm. We didn't need to be reminded of it. It's a shame that the redesign was targetted at those who have long left and not at those who loyally stayed for all those years enjoying the site as it was.

It's all about the money I guess. But when Last.fm loses all its users it'll be an opposite effect of what they hoped for.

Yeah right its a BETA but why force us to use the new layout (you can't even create a new account, and that is something essential that should be implemented by all meanings. btw i cant even log in anymore)? Why they do not keep it like it was (you could use the normal site and the beta @ beta.last.fm)

I recommend everyone to use libre.fm instead - seems to be just a simple version of last and is open source too. Show last this update sucks by not using the site and switching over - user hemorrhage should be a pretty clear message.

Even though it's a beta you can still see how ugly and fucked up it will be when it's done. I hate practically everything about the new site. And I'm usually very tolerant.

Streaming not working at all. I left a tab open over the weekend and the OLD SITE still streams fine.  BETA is for BEFORE release to public.  Did your developers get confused?  Even running the site in an incognito window (no ghostery), streaming does not work.

Well, I like it. Running two versions of a site in tandem with each other was always going to be difficult. I don't know much about website creation but I appreciate that the developers really needed to test the newer version without being encumbered by the other. The other alternative was to suspend the whole site for a period of time. I can only imagine what type of feedback that would have created. I have a few issues. All the duplicate scrobbles I carefully removed have returned but I really don't mind having to remove them again once the site is in fully working order. Also the about me section of profiles is currently disabled. But that will return and will presumably make my page look less clinical when it does. I'm not impatient. I can wait. And whether the site is better or not as good as it was before, I'm not actually prevented from listening to music which is the ultimate aim of the music devotee. Also looks like I can play friends' libraries again. That was always one of my favourite functions of the site so well done for re- instating it. I'm going to try that out right now. So no complaints from me. Well done, last fm. And good luck xxxx

Yet more rudeness. No worries. I won't reciprocate. Where did I say that my opinion was more 'valid' than yours or anyone else's? Your very considered opinion is just as ' valid'. It's just a pity that you had to resort to insults in order to get your extremely valid point across. But, hey, you're angry and I'm worried about you. Hope you're ok. Xxxx

Red alert, red alert, it's a catastrophe! It's the worst thing ever. You could at least have FINISHED it before FORCING us to use it. Can't see friends, groups, about me section. This is pathetic. Last.fm was the one and only social media I'm using. I feel like I won't be using any, soon.

The new website is worse than the whole Netflix/Qwikster debacle. Yeah things are that bad. At this point I just want another streaming service to buyout Last.fm and incorperate last.fm's amazing recommendation engine into their superior platform. You know a service with developers that actually know what they're doing and genuinely care about stuff appealing to their user base.

Can we get names for the people who are forcing these awful changes on us? Is it the design team? The little guy who runs last.fm's day to day operations? Some out of touch corporate douche from CBS? I'm leaning towards the latter.
