Will the music catalogue always rebuild itself on a weekly basis?

I've noticed that the weekly catalogue rebuild on a Friday is a bit hinky. Often, albums are given a proper entry, then disappear the following week, reappear another week, disappear another, and so on...

I'm not a programmer but this does seem a really inefficient way of maintaining the catalogue(?). In the way that your scrobbler looks for playcount changes, could you not programme your catalogue updater to look for changes and additions, rather than (what I'm assuming it's doing which is) deleting everything and building from scratch again?

This seems to more particularly affect recent releases (e.g. Carrie Underwood's Cry Pretty (currently disappeared) and Mya's T.K.O. (The Knock Out)), but I've also spotted it being a nuisance with old and significant releases, like Whitney Houston's Whitney album (currently disappeared), Michael Jackson's Dangerous album, and Mariah Carey's Merry Christmas album. I'm sure there are many, many others.

Is the intention to leave it like this or are you hoping to improve this aspect at some point further down the road?

Also, as a related question, which sources are you using to build the catalogue? I only ask because I know there are albums that I either created or have seen a MusicBrainz entry for and which were previously picked up a couple of years back, but now don't seem to ever get found by your catalogue builder. Are you even using MusicBrainz any more?

Thanks for any info!
