Wrong Capitalization and Mistagged Artist Names

I've been having a lot of problems recently with song and album capitalization. A lot of songs I listen to, especially songs released in 2016, are not correctly capitalized and are either all lowercase or all uppercase. For example the title for Protest The Hero's new release shows up in my library all lowercase when it should be "Pacific Myth" and the entire new Born Of Osiris album shows up in all caps.

Another problem I've been encountering a lot is mistagged artist names. For example whenever I try to listen to the band Adventures it shows up on Last.Fm as "The Adventures" even though there is no "the" in their name. I know that The Adventures is the name of another band but is there a way to separate Adventures scrobbles from The Adventures scrobbles? The same thing happens when I listen to the band Red Death, it keeps autocorrecting to "The Red Death" even though there is no "the" in the band name.

I'm not asking Last.Fm to solve this problem right away and I know you guys have been working on updates to fix problems like this but every time there's a new update on the site there's no mention of these problems. I just want to know if you guys are working on solving this sometime soon.

The capitalisation will supposedly be taken care of by the new catalogue manager so it's just a matter of wait and see. It's now in beta so hopefully it will note be that far off.

Looking at http://www.last.fm/music/+noredirect/Red+Death it seems that is caused by incorrect redirects.

"Pacific Myth is a subscription-based serial album " - huh, this is an interesting example as it doesn't look like it's on Musicbrainz, or amazon, or itunes.  Unfortunately it looks like Bandcamp have discontinued their API, so we can't we can't use that for reference.  However, if you (or someone else) adds the release to Musicbrainz, it should appear in the new catalogue shortly.

As for the capitalisation issue, that's a related but slightly different issue which we believe happens when someone's tagged their scrobbles incorrectly, so it's entered into the catalogue as they scrobbled it.  That should be fixed for new releases with the new catalogue; but will need a slightly different fix for items that already have incorrect capitalisation. It's on our to do list.

Speaking more generally, the new catalogue which we'll be previewing for subscribers soon (possibly next week?) aims to address the majority of common issues you're seeing with the site catalogue (missing releases; incorrect tracklists; bad redirects, etc), though it probably won't fix everything on the first attempt -- that Pacific Myth album is a great example of an unconventional release which we haven't accounted for yet. So we're hoping the majority of issues will be addressed, then we can identify and work through the remaining edge cases.

Thanks for keeping me updated! I just added Pacific Myth to MusicBrainz as an "Album + Compilation" and I hope the capitalization will be fixed on Last.Fm soon. I'm looking forward to this new update.

Any updates on the new catalogue? I'm still seeing some improper capitalization:

Hannah DiAmond - should be Hannah Diamond
kyary pamyu pamyu - should be Kyary Pamyu Pamyu

kyary pamyu pamyu is in fact a incorrect tag and should be redirecting to きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ

I disagree. I dont read Japanese and I dont have a Japanese keyboard. All of the promo for her current world tour has her name in English (T-shirts, posters, etc.) It's fine if people have a choice between English and Japanese name, but the problem is that the English name is incorrectly capitalized. I say leave both names, fix English name. Everybody is happy ^_~

I noticed an update where they ask "is this the correct track title?" but this doesn't help solve the problem with capitalization. If you vote "no" there's no option to change it to the correct track title.

If the spelling is correct and the case is correct -> Vote as correct
If the spelling is correct and the case is wrong -> Vote as correct

Well yes, but I wish they'd just added a text box for notes to add to your vote - both Yes and No votes. As this whole thread is about, a title can be spelt correctly but have messed up cases.

I get that these simple votes are for them to get feedback on the accuracy of the sources they are using for the database, but it just seems like it would have saved time if they had asked for additional information at the same time.

I agree, or they could add another option for users to vote on the capitalization or something. I miss the days where you could just post stuff that isn't capitalized correctly in a thread and administrators would correct it.

A textbox is planned, but it's still just for correcting spelling, not for caps.
The moderator tool to fix caps is not yet available for the new Last.fm platform. Hopefully it will not be needed if the proper capitalisation is imported from MusicBrainz (iTunes isn't that bad either).

So I just got done listening to the new Frank Ocean album and more than half of the songs on it are all lowercase. Any chance that the capitalization fixes will be coming soon?

I'm sure this will be addressed/fixed at some point, but I wouldn't hold your breath on "soon". It could be next sprint, it could be next year.
