888LM beeping and red and yellow LED's flashing

I've had an 888LM control panel connected to my garage door opener and the MyQ internet gateway for a over a year and has been working fine. Suddenly the 888LM started beeping and the red and yellow LED's are flashing. Removed the 888LM and the garage door opener works by touching the 2 wires, works from the remote openers in the cars, and works from the numeric keypad. Any suggestions on how to fix?

Oscar - We need to determine if the issue is coming from your 888LM or a short in your wire. I would like you to try short wiring the control panel into the opener, this way we can see if the problem is the control panel, itself or if there is a short in the wire. I have included some instructions below.

    1. Remove the red and white wires from the door control panel and from the back of the garage door opener.  These wires are located on the same side as the hanging antenna.
Note: You do not need to disconnect the wires for the safety reversing sensors.
2 . Using an extra piece of wire, connect the door control directly to the back of the garage door opener. Test out the door control panel
                       - If the door control works, replace the wires.
                       - If your door control does not work, replace the door control
           3. Verify there is not excess wire connected to the screw terminals on the back of the door control panel. Any bare wires touching the circuit board can cause a shorted circuit.
           4. Check that the screw terminals on the back of the wall-mounted door control are tightened enough to hold the wires in place, but not over tightened.

This does not explain why the panel suddenly stops working after a year or two years.  The screws do not tighten themselves any tighter over time and excess wire just doesn't suddenly appear.  Here I am with a newly replaced panel (which was a replacement for a replacement and took two weeks to get to me) and after 15 minutes the lights are still blinking.  Disconnect, reconnect, wait 5 minutes---still blinking.  Disconnect again, wait 5 more minutes----still blinking.  This is absolute madness.  The old one was working great until one day it stopped and my door started opening and closing randomly.  If Liftmaster/Chamberlain was required to warranty my house for the random entry of strangers, maybe this product would be more reliable.  If you don't care that your house may be left wide open to thieves, keep using it.  I, for one, will be checking into an alternative after I've spent quite a bit of money, time, and effort on having a MyQ gateway, light switches, etc.

I had to replace the MyQ control panel with a new unit in September '15. Ironically, on Feb 11, '16 the motion sensor that activates the light in the garage stopped working. These units are evidently not very reliable. What is even more troubling is that it takes Liftmaster months to formulate a response to issues. Less than satisfactory customer service....................

  • I disconnected the wall unit completely, left it for a day and then reconnected it. Once reconnected, the flashing continued for a couple of minutes (as the installation instructions said they would). It now works properly.

  • I got the same exact problem. Disconnected mine for about a week then reconnected it worked good for 24 hours and then started beeping again.

  • Had the same prob with mine. After 2 years of service started beeping and flashing red and yellow.

Found 2 capacitor in the control head and one was bad

    They are 1f 2.7v. $3.00 in parts
I would say it's a prob part. If lot of ppl have the same issue.

  • I am having the same problem. When I complete the circuit without the 888LM, the door works fine so there isn't a short. I have had the unit for less than 3 years. How do I get this resolved? It is clearly a manufacturing and/or design problem.
