I’m Disappointed

888LM causing garage door to open by itself

My 2 year old 888LM started opening the garage door by itself since last night. From other reviews on Amazon this appears to be a common failure mode. I like this 888LM when it works but I am unhappy that a common failure result is "DOOR OPEN".

  • I am having the exact same problem and I thought somebody might be messing with me on my network. I just change the network password and I hope it stops but if it doesn't then it's clearly the software.

This was not a software problem. The switch experienced a hardware failure. I replaced the 888LM with a new one. Problem solved, until it fails again.

  • Basically the control panels fail and short the lines. This is a trigger signal for the opener to open the garage door. The same thing can be accomplished by replacing the controller with a simple switch. Had the same problem with my 398LM and can't find a replacement. The door to my shop was open all night. Not good.

  • Same thing here, any update?  I was told by support that if the 888LM was disconnected that the other remotes would work.  That answer was wrong.  Any other replacements to the 888LM or workarounds?  Mine failed  after about 18 months, and of course the warranty is 12 months, but in my climate controlled, mostly clean environment this is unacceptable This crucial part of the garage door solution should not leave the garage door wide open with no notice on the app.  Love the 8500 and the idea behind it but the quality of the solution sucks, the 8500 itself needed to be replaced after 2.5 years.

  • The 888LM was very very unreliable device.  I had mine for about 2 years.  Work "okay" for about 16-17 months then I get an infamous "red, yellow" blinking problem.  Search the internet and find out that the capacitors were bad (leaking).  I order 10 capacitors from digikey to replace both capacitors.  The panel working again.  4 months later I woke up with a wide open garage.  WTF?  I check the capacitors and they all fine.  But I go ahead and replace that 2 capacitors anyway.  The problem remain the same.   This time the problem is not the capacitors.  It look like the 2 contact wires are shorted internally.  I have to put back the old panel (3 buttons: open/close, light, lock) so I can use my garage again.
Anyone find a solution how to fix this control panel?  Look like I have to order another one just to find out why or what parts cause the problem.

In general, LM garage product are very reliable, but MyQ line of product is very unreliable.
I have a 6 MyQ 825LM modules (control various table lamps and portable fan HEPA filters), 1 823LM light switch (for the garage lights).  Those modules aren't that reliable either.  3 of the 6 modules was dead within 4-6 months.

The problem?  That little orange fuse was blown.  I was able to troubleshoot the problem because I have a working module on hand to be able to trace down the failing part.

Again I ordered replacement fuses from digikey to repair the modules.  The connected lamps and filters power draw is very little compare to the output of the module.  I don't know if power surge cause it to blew or not but when the module died, we have no power outage.
