A few days after installing my 888LM control panel, my garage door stopped closing correctly. After pressing the Door Close button, the garage door starts to close and then retracts before reaching 1/3 of the way closed. 4-5 attempts have to be made to close the door completely (without it retracting). I have checked both sensors near the door. They are both clear of obstructions and the lenses are clean/clear.

Hello Kim,
Please provide the model number of the garage door opener you are having this issue with. It does not appear to be a problem with the 888LM but something else going on here.
If the light bulbs that light up the garage flash 10 times after the door reverses back open, we can be sure the issue lies with the sensors. Could be the wiring, alignment, or sensor itself. Possibly even a rope hanging off the door and blocking the eye as the door travels downward.
If the light bulbs do not flash 10 times try to disconnect the door by pulling on the release handle Will the door then run closed without a reversal?
When the door stops and reverses do you get a flashing light on the garage door openers end panel? (Same side the antenna wire is on) If so, how many times does the light flash? -

Patrick - The symptoms you have described are consistent with safety sensor issues. If you press the remote control, the door will close part of the way and then reverse fully open, usually the light bulbs will flash ten times as the door is reversing. Additionally, the door will close only if you press and hold the door control until the garage door closes to the ground, as a means of temporarily overriding the safety sensors. The issue may be caused by a simple obstruction or safety sensor misalignment issue. Each safety sensor is installed in a metal bracket that is mounted on the garage door track, about 4-6 inches above the garage floor. I have included a link that will help you troubleshoot the sensors. Please let me know if it does not.

I need to explain what is happening a little further. After a reset of the upper and lower limits and the force, the door operates fine for approximately 10 cycles. then it bounces off the bottom and returns to the top. Another resetting does the same. I have inspected and tightened all of the screws on the shaft coupling and the cable drums. I also have leveled the bottom of the door position which helped but only doubled from 5 to 10 the amount of door closings before failure. I also have replaced the logic board twice to no avail. It appears that the lower position sensor is losing it's memory because the force at the bottom position is changing and triggers the logic to raise up the door. I would like to know where the lower position transducer is that triggers the logic to send the door up. Is it determined by the shaft rotation degrees ? Is there a mechanical part in the drive train of the closer that is causing this? This closer has had a history of this problem from the very beginning, even though it only gets used around 30 times per year. I believe that the lower position of the door is changing slightly. Why?
