Why hasn't this been done yet?
Salient points:
1) There are several dozen if not hundreds of requests on this message board alone.
2) Writing a skill for Amazon Echo isn't difficult considering you already have developers creating your mobile app.
3) This is a no-brainer! If you integrate with Amazon Echo & Google Home you can use that as a fantastic new selling point! By NOT doing this your competitors are going to eat your lunch.

Hi,
I just finished creating a step by step instruction on how to do this and you can access the instruction via https://github.com/jbnunn/Alexa-MyQGarage/blob/master/StepByStepInstructions. Please note though that line 34 of the instructions need to say DOOR_STATES in all caps.
Please follow the guide carefully if you are having trouble getting this to work as I also posted some tips there.
Also, be sure to download the latest copy of main.py from https://github.com/jbnunn/Alexa-MyQGarage/blob/master/main.py as the original main.py was missing a colon at line 72 that was causing problems.
Lastly, if you are worried about security, you may opt to comment out lines 204 to 208 from the main.py code by inserting a # symbol at the beginning of the line, so that you can only ask Alexa to close the garage but not to open.
Hope this helps, Good luck!

Tim Strother May 21, 2017 02:08Hi tigerbrain - it is super appreciated that you put this up, and it works almost 100% corrrectly. I am able to get door states, and open the door, but the close door command is causing Alexa to get errors, and I am also getting an error while testing in the Service Simulator. The error I get is "The remote endpoint could not be called, or the response it returned was invalid." I have also confirmed that I have the most up to date main.py as you mentioned above. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions?EditDeleteRemove
