Does the 819LMB replace the 828LM gateway
I have a 828LM gateway and have been using the app remotely. I just purchased the 819LMB for HomeKit. Do I still need the 828 for my setup to work or does the new 819 bridge replace the gateway? Thanks

Also does the 819LMB have to be installed in the garage or can it be in your house somewhere

Chris, working on getting you an answer. Lauren

The bridge would replace the gateway. It must be within range of your home wifi network. I'm not sure the range of it in comparison to the gateway but it will also need to be within range of the Garage doors and lights that you wish to control with it. I use the gateway as I don't want any additional wifi devices on my network than are absolutely necessary (Just my preference, I do networks for a living) The bridge communicates with your network and the internet via wifi and with your doors and any controlled lights via radio signal (902-928MHz the same as your remote openers)

Still kind of confused. So I should be able to unplug my 828 internet gateway and not use it anymore, if I am replacing it with the 819LMB Homekit bridge. is this correct? Right now my 828 internet gateway is in my basement plugged into the router and it has no problem connecting to the garage door. So would the 819 Bridge be able to be in the basement as well? Thanks

Chris so long as the transmitter on the bridge has the same range as the gateway (can't imagine that LiftMaster would have made it weaker) then you should be able to just locate the bridge in the same general area as the gateway. it does not connect to your home net via ethernet but rather via wifi. The other main difference is that it is reported to support AppleHome but I can neither confirm nor deny that as I do not run one. The specs though for both indicate that they operate the same way other than cabled vs wireless and the addition of AppleHome. So a network connection (ethernet or wifi) to the LiftMaster servers and radio signal to your controlled doors and lights.

Chris, you do not require anything else other than what you've already purchased. The MyQ Home Bridge should be mounted in the garage for reliability and optimal performance. Lauren

Happy to help. Quick question of you if you don't mind. What made you decide to replace the gateway with the bridge? As I said I'm not big on adding wireless devices to my network unless necessary and especially ones that I have little to no control over the configuration there of. Myself I like the gateway as I have it connected directly to my ISPs modem/router and in front of my router. This way even if there were a way for someone to hack the gateway they are still outside of my local network. I know I'm not the typical home user in that I run all Cisco product on my network (true Cisco product not the Lynksys cisco stuff). Like I said networks are my livelyhood and I treat mine home net as I would any corporate net.

According to their specs it will control everything that the gateway does so I've got to say it does.

I decided to switch because the new 819 bridge is compatible with Apples Homekit. Kind of bringing everything under one app, and being to activate the garage door by voice

Kind of figured that might be your answer but I was curious. I'd like to do the same thing, just wish they would add that feature to the gateway. Hope it all works well for you. No reason it shouldn't if their engineers got it all right. : )
