How does the 888LM know it was successful when opening/closing the door? I noticed the MyQ Garage Door Controller has what looks like a tilt sensor that gets attached to the garage door. But how does the 888LM accomplish this?
I just want to know if the reported status on the app can ever get out of sync with reality.
Also, are the wires only used to charge the battery inside the 888LM? Seems you still need to program the device as a remote.

1David - The 888LM gets the position of the door from the logic board on the garage door opener. The wires supply power to the MyQ Control Panel and also connects it to the board so it can determine the position of the door. It doesn't program to the opener as a remote. It's function is that of a door control that adds the ability for the opener to have MyQ technology.
I hope that helps. If you need me to clarify, let me know. -

Thanks Dawn. I was looking at the 888LM manual - it seems additional remotes are programmed to the 888LM instead of to the garage opener itself. Why is this? Should I clear my remotes from the garage opener and program them to the 888LM?
Thanks- view 1 more comment

OK, I think I understand now. So the 888LM communicates with the opener via the wire run the existing control panel.
The 828LM Internet gateway communicates with the 888LM replacement control panel via "Security + 2.0 technology".
Phone app talks to Internet Gateway via IP.
Thanks, the devil is in the details and I appreciate you clearing up how it all works. -
