Dear MyQ - This is simple stuff. Sort it out! You are the only brand on the market that doesn't support the #1 home smart device.
-
Liftmaster needs to keep up with smart home interfaces, makes NO sense that this couldn't be added as an Alexa skill and tested in a few days,!
-
This is what your devs need to do. It's VERY straightforward. Any company with any "smart home" device has no excuse not to integrate. If a competitor does this before you... you will lose customers. The ability to ask Alexa if the garage door is open, and open and close it via voice command is a no-brainer. https://developer.amazon.com/public/solutions/alexa/alexa-skills-kit
-
It seems to me that LiftMaster/Chamberlin has no intention of "linking" with any other services. They are extremely behind in this area. People have been asking for this feature for a while now and there has been no word out of them.
There are so many possibilities with the ability to use IFTTT, Amazon Echo, SmartThings, etc....! Get with the program! -
i would love this too!!!

13RJ - We do not have the ability to link with Amazon Echo at this time. I will add the suggestion. Also, I encourage you to reach out to Amazon Echo to request the same thing from them.

With the new Amazon Skills functionality, is it still not possible to link with Amazon Echo?

Please please add support for MyQ and Amazan Echo.

ok so echo allo
w linkage to wink and and myq links to wink but echo will not decover the the devices added to wink this was the work around i hoped worked but echo does not discover the myq devies added to linked about in wink. -

I have it working somewhat unreliably using Alexa, Amazon Lambda and this code - https://github.com/chadsmith/node-liftmaster

How do you use this code?

Amazon added 2 new echo products today. I really think that adding this skill to the echo would increase sales for the myq

I'm waiting to upgrade my receiver and modem, once I know this feature is available. Lacking integration with the Amazon Echo is a deal breaker for us.
All of our current smart home installation and devices now support our Echo's! We would be utilizing this for our remote gate opening when guest arrive; and we can see them at the end of the driveway from inside our home. :-) -
-
I would buy the myq and an echo for my mom so she could open the garage door with her voice once she knows who it is.

Please come up with either an Amazon skill or IFTTT recipe to "activate" the door (open/close). I do have the knowledge to do it, but like everyone else.... Would love to have it!

Yes please. Echo! Having "Works with Nest" is fairly pointless but you were able to accomplish this. An Amazon skill would be so much better and simple.
-
What does a garage opener have to do with the temperature inside the home? lol I guess that for Chamberlain this is a zero-effort way to "demonstrate home connectivity" or something... but it has zero user value. I have a fertilizer spreader that "works with Nest" too.... ROFL
Can you imagine what goes on in their C-suite meetings every week? "Boss, another 20 thousand irate owners called us wondering if/when our promised integrations will ever occur. And the Echo sold another 400,000 units last week. What do we tell them?" CEO replies: "don't bother me, I'm planning my major investment in coal mines and buggy whips" -

Hi, this official reply was from 9 months ago. Does liftmaster have an update as to when Amazon Echo compatibility with be available?
-
-
I built a cloud-based automation platform that allows users to send text commands to check/open/close MyQ garage doors - or ask Siri to send the text and there's your voice control :-) This platform will also allow you to select a time of day/night to automatically close any MyQ enabled garage door that is open and/or receive text alerts.
My goal/inspiration for creating this service was to make it easier for my wife and kids to interact with our home's automation. If you'd like to try it out, please visit https://www.justautomated.com/beta/. -

To All: There may be a way to cobble this together, but it takes buying another product. The Chamberlain MyQ will connect to a Wink Hub apparently. Then the Echo can control the device through the hub. I havn't tried this since I don't think I should have to buy ANOTHER product/hub from another company.

Working on numerous other third-party integrations and not working on Alexa integration, which even provides the Skills Kit to work with, is a HUGE mistake for MyQ and Liftmaster.
-
-
Why wouldn’t you be supporting Alexa? You said you will be supporting others... Alexa is number one.
-
-
-
-
Concentrate on making the myq app on iOS successfully close my door more than 60% of the time, then work on Alexa.
-
-
It's been a year since the original idea was requested. Amazon Echo is carving out a lead in the home smart device space... and MyQ still can't talk to it. SMH.
-
-
Yes another vote to add Amazon Echo/DOT support. All my other devices support DOT (Pentain, Lutron, Nest, etc.)
-
-
Please add this .... although clearly y'all are on a small development budget since adding the scheduling feature seemed to only occur a month or so ago. I would've considered that almost an MVP feature.
-
-
The fact that this doesn't work with Alexa (or even through a hub like SmartThings which Alexa can control) is preventing me from purchasing another MyQ setup. I am looking to replace 5 garage door openers at two homes, and Alexa compatibility is my top determining factor. I'm sure I'm not alone.
Guys. Seriously. Add this. Please.-
Here's how I've got around Chamberlin's refusal to add an Alexa skill, google assistant skill or integration with IFTTT. I purchased a chamberlin smart opener and a WeMo maker. I've wired the wemo maker relay contacts to the garage door opener. Alexa and google home allow for integration with Belkin and the wemo product. So with a config of the device with Alexa IoT I can say, Alexa open garage door.
-
-
Ive said this same thing 20 times... Trust me people will complain that they have to buy something else to make their myq work with alexa. Ive also said that its no use to communicate with this garbage company, cut your losses and go buy a manufacturers product that is forward thinking and not stuck in pre-tech eras... yet here they are still complaining to a deaf brick wall........

I also have a SmartThings Hub, so I figured there might be a way to integrate MyQ with that.
A quick Google search showed me that Chamberlain/LiftMaster is going the *opposite* direction:
https://community.smartthings.com/t/discontinuation-of-myq-connect-community-smartapp/47183
They discontinued SmartThings support earlier this year! Apparently, they couldn't handle the number of incoming client requests. Ever heard of auto-scalable cloud-based servers, such as AWS? They've only been around since, oh, the spring of 2006.
And ours isn't the only thread stomping our feet and demanding this:
https://myqcommunity.chamberlain.com/chamberlainmyq/topics/amzon-alexa-echo-integration?topic-reply-...
At this point, and given the SmartThings announcement that shows Chamberlain is moving backwards on this issue, I'm going to replace my Chamberlain openers with another brand merely out of spite, or maybe just buy a Garaggio. I have 10 garage doors at 4 houses. None of them will ever use a Chamberlain product again.-
Thanks, Steve. I'm very disappointed I spent my money on it in the first place. We'll use it a bit longer, but eventually we will replace it. We love Alexa!
-
-
I am glad I viewed these comments before buying from MyQ and expecting Alexa to work. I'll take my money elsewhere.
-
-
-
-
-
If you look how long ago this thread was created, it does not give one hope that LiftMaster even cares about getting in on the action of the top selling item (Echo) from the largest online seller (Amazon) in the world. Sad.... Just sad.

Get a WeMo Maker and run it like that. Seriously this stuff isn't that hard to figure out. There are obivous security issues with being able to open and close a door that provides outside access and why Amazon is not willing to put anyones home and security on the line under any circumstances. Regardless, the WeMo Maker is by far the easiest way to accomplish this.

Wemo Maker is compatible with IFTTT which is compatible with Alexa ... use an Alexa "trigger" to execute wemo maker command.
Thanks Jay! I wasn't familiar with WeMo Maker -
-
You can also add a sensor to receive feeback on door poisiton (open or closed). I use a simple magnetetic switch. Works great. The Makers can be used on anything low voltage (garage doors, gas fireplaces, irrigation systems, you name it. If you want to run something 120 volts, add a relay and you're in business...
-
-
-
-
But that way will only enable you to open/close with Alexa but now you will loose all other feature with liftmaster switch such as ability to close manually, timer closing, open/close with liftmaster app.
We should not have to buy a special device to incorporate voice, liftmaster should add it as a feature to theirs switch. Its a feature to offer to theirs customers. It is up to theirs customers to decide to turn it on or off regarding security.-
You wont loose anything if you wire it in parallel... the manual switch will still work, app still works (and will show open/closed) trip sensors still work etc... $30 way out of all of the complaining. When liftmaster made mobile apps to control openers, it was made for exactly that - app use not voice.. Unfortunately you cant leave it up to the end consumer to judge whether they want to put themselves at risk for theft or worse... If you make a product that can end in a bad way for the consumer (regardless if they want it to do something it wasnt designed to do or not) the manufacturer will still be liable. Until better security provisions can be made with voice recognition, security devices that allow outside access (doors/locks) will be off the market. Cant blame them for covering their own a**.
-
-
I agree that Amazon Echo integration would be a major enhancement. There is nothing worse than taking the time to setup a tool, and have it be a one off, that doesn't communicate with other home automation products.
-
-
-
-
-
Now, I get it that they might not want verbally opening the door to work, so intruders can yell in windows to open the door. But what about just CLOSING the door? Or asking "Alexa - is the garage door open?"
-
I agree you Steve that checking the status and closing the door should be our minimum requirements for this functionality. And I can see the issue of an intruder trying to give Alexa commands from outside of the home, but couldn't you also mitigate this risk by adding to the skill a unique verbal passcode to be prompted? ( Much like the common keypads we have today on our garages to be able to open them from the outside. )
-
-
-
-
-
Alexa already does the pin code for Amazon orders. So that not just anyone can activate it. That would take care of strangers opening from outside. Seems like simple security solution to me.
-
-
Of course, a PIN or password feature would help mitigate the security issue. But that's more complex, and clearly we're already asking Chamberlain/Liftmaster too much to have any support whatsoever. :)
So yes, ideally, we'd have a semi-secure way to open garage doors. But at the very least, we should be able to poll door status.
I've given up hope of this happening with Chamberlain's help, so I'm wiring in a SmartThings relay control to open and close the door, and using a multi-sensor which can tell whether the door is open or closed.- view 1 more comment

I'm actually in the process of writing a blog post about it. I'll post it here when it's done. :)

Previously someone commented on a WeMo Maker to accomplish this. It's mostly straightforward if you are the brave YouTube educated DIY kind of person. About $100 all in. WeMo Maker, magnetic switch, and some low voltage 24/2 wire. I am trying to convince my wife to let me try it out.
I'd be interested in your blog post too though. Sounds similar. -

I Vote for Amazon Echo support.
But don't forget to work on your IOS app sometimes it doesn't work all the time.
Also 888LM control panel fails it opens the garage door since it dead it does not notify you and you can't control it. (good neighbor text me that my garage door is open) work on updating your control board.

Im hearing some scary stuff with Alexa smart locks... like calling and waiting for answering machine --- "ALEXA, OPEN THE GARAGE DOOR"

I am kidding of course, but it's interesting that someone would be exploring the tech of home automation and yet still rely on an answering machine.

Wow, almost bought a MyQ system for my home. Glad I read through this first. Going to look into going the Garagio or GoGoGate system instead.

Hi Tyson,
You should not let this stop you as there is already a workaround for this that is fairly easy to implement.
You just need to follow the step by step instructions posted here https://github.com/jbnunn/Alexa-MyQGarage
Hope this helps

tigerbrain,
I am having trouble with the multi-door-support, according to my AWS lambda logs everything appears to be working, sessions is established, the number of devices are enumerated, but my skill only ever replies with help text about how to interact with the skill. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,

It is now the end of May 2017 and there is still NO Alexa integration with MyQ Liftmaster. They have been talking about this for over 2 years, what's the hold up? Get it together Liftmaster.

I purchased the MyQ system from liftmaster because my builder told me it would work with Alexa format. So disappointed. If it wasnt installed I'd return it.

Lauren, you all have said you all are working on numerous third-party integrations for a couple years. We get it.
What we are looking for is integration with the largest of these third-party products, the Echo.
That should have already been MyQ's priority. It should become MyQ's priority. -
-
-
-
Read older posts. Chamberlain / Liftmaster have been promising integrations for years and making zero progress. I wish I researched this before buying. They need to hire an outside consulting firm to get this done ASAP. We need to spread the word so others stop buying these units until they catch up with the other, smarter choices.

While it is disappointing you haven't made this available, I have no intention of paying a subscription fee for it. I guess other people must do this since you charge for other integrations but I just can't imagine why.

If you work for LiftMaster you should really be concerned. A simple 1 day build that could result in thousands in sale hasn’t been done in 2 years?!

I built an integration between my home automation platform and MyQ and Chamberlain blocked my platform's access (blacklisted my IP address). I could have Alexa working with MyQ in less than 2 days but MyQ is a closed system and that's how they will remain for the foreseeable future. I even contacted their corporate HQ prior to and after I built an integration with them and they never returned my phone call.
-
-
Wow! This makes much more sense. I can’t imagine they’ve been “working on it” for 2 years. Well I guess another garage door solution is the way to go.

For those so inclined, there is a solution via openhab: https://docs.openhab.org/addons/bindings/myq1/readme.html

LiftMaster is working with Google Home for a price. its 1$ a month or 10$ for the year. Amazon lets companies integrate their software for free. So I don't see liftmaster doing anything with the Echo anytime soon..
If I knew this before I installed my 2 garage doors I would of used a different company.....-
Hi Mark, we don't currently support Amazon's Echo, but at any given time we're working on numerous integrations with third-parties. We will definitely announce their availability as soon as we can. Happy New Year, Chuck

Then, they announce the Nest integration and I thought it was going to finally give me a way to connect my garage doors to other devices, but instead they let us control our Nest with their app. In my opinion, why on earth would I want to use their prehistoric app instead of the beautiful Nest app!
So, I bought a generic Z-Wave opener and replaced the MyQ gateway. I now can control the garage perfectly with all my other SmartThings stuff. Only thing lacking, without a lot of work, is Echo integration.
Seriously thinking about replacing my MyQ Garage Door Opener!!
BTW here's the link to the Echo API - it says you can build a new skill in less than 60 minutes. https://developer.amazon.com/ask
A high-level difference is the verbiage used to trigger an event. A skill would require the user to say "Alexa, ask MyQ to open the garage door." A true integration would only require one to say "Alexa, open the garage door.
For more complex control, as with a thermostat, skills can get clunky and not work reliably. It's wasn't until my Honeywell thermostats received true integration, that they worked reliably.
IFTTT tasking works much better as well.
Get after it Liftmaster!!
I just finished creating a step by step instruction on how to do this and you can access the instruction via https://github.com/jbnunn/Alexa-MyQGarage/blob/master/StepByStepInstructions. Please note though that line 34 of the instructions need to say DOOR_STATES in all caps.
Please follow the guide carefully if you are having trouble getting this to work as I also posted some tips there.
Also, be sure to download the latest copy of main.py from https://github.com/jbnunn/Alexa-MyQGarage/blob/master/main.py as the original main.py was missing a colon at line 72 that was causing problems.
Lastly, if you are worried about security, you may opt to comment out lines 204 to 208 from the main.py code by inserting a # symbol at the beginning of the line, so that you can only ask Alexa to close the garage but not to open.
Hope this helps, Good luck!
tigerbrain
You need to know that the instructions I provided is a user unsupported workaround to this problem and not something that comes from Liftmaster. If you are waiting for an official solution, sad to say that there may never be one as Liftmaster doesn't seem to be interested in providing one. You can always opt to keep waiting while the rest of us are already enjoying the privileges of using the workaround. Good Luck.
tigerbrain
Thanks in advance for your help with this.
I have 4 of these by the way!!
