Was super excited to see IFTTT integration added, even though a “Premium” subscription of $10 a year was required. Subscribed and added the service to IFTTT only to find that “close” is the only action.
Immediately canceled my subscription, without open the integration is fairly useless. Anything that you’d use the open/close trigger for can be done with a different trigger like geolocation.
Liftmaster, please add an action for “Open”. As it stands right now there is nothing Premium about this, it’s not worth $10 a year, and you are quickly falling behind the Times. Very disappointed in your narrow sighted vision.

I cannot believe they have the gall to charge for a subscription for this being 2-3 years late to the party. Hey Liftmaster, I paid less than 1/3rd of the price for my hue lights which do all of these things, with no limitations and without a subscription and have for years now.
Garage door $400 x2
MyQ Bridge $50
IFTTT integration $1/month or $10/year (oh how generous of you)
This is beyond a joke

It's not a technical limitation. It's a security limitation.

$10 to integrate with IFTTT... poor choice to try an monetize IoT integration lift master. It's more of a pain in the ass for a subscriber to pay you $1/mo then it would be to do this for free. Hopefully your marketing department will get the hint with all the negative comments. The cost to integrate with ifttt as a channel partner is peanuts and the development cost on your side is also peanuts. You probably spent more on the IT flow and transaction engine to collect your $10 then the cost of development for IFTTT.
For those who want something better; buy a Wemo maker and connect it to your LM door opener. This way you get open and close with Alexa and can use Google Assistant from any mobile device (iOS or android) coupled with IFTTT to close and open your garage door! It's fricking magical.-
the charge on Iftt and google integration is a really bad. Not a wise decision. My decision to spend mo eye on this was Iftt integration and. Kw I have to pay for it... not cool . Bad bad liftmaster

After further research, I believe integration with Apple's homekit is free. Whereas integration with android stuff has the charge.
Totally ridiculous. -
-
The charge is for IFTTT integration and Google Home. Homekit integration is different and requires the new bridge.
-
-
I have the liftmaster internet gateway (828LM) to work with the liftmaster app. As I understand it this will work with the homekit without the additional monthly fee for google home/ifttt.

even though they essentially do the same thing, pretty surprising they are charging for one service and not the other. I have been tweeting at them all day with no response. Also looking at that Wemo Maker that was mentioned above. That seems like the best solution.

And for some reason the chamberlain and liftmaster version appear to be different. The Liftmaster version still isn’t available.

Charging for something that is 99.9% of the time free. This whole security reason for not opening a door makes absolutely no sense to me. FAIL!

It's a legal/contractual limitation.
From Google Actions Developer TOS: [https://developers.google.com/actions/policies/general-policies]Actions must not enable the unlocking or opening of doors, disabling of physical security mechanisms, or disarming of the security systems via the conversational interface.

Google does not own Liftmaster or IFTTT... they are in compliance as long as the door can’t directly be opened via Google Assistant, which via IFTTT it’s not.

I am adding my vote for MyQ to support open & close, and for the service to be free, at least for early adopters as they work out the kinks.

Chris, thanks for your comments. We'll continue to follow our strict protocols when it comes to allowing third-parties to open a garage door. Lauren

Would you really want to allow for *anyone* to be able to open your house for them?
If this would be added, that means that if you have a Google Home or similar device, any person walking by would be able to yell from outside your house "Hey Google, ask MyQ to open the garage door" and be magically granted access. Is that really a good idea?!
There is a reason why *nobody* does this for voice assistants / integrations. Not garage openers or door locks.
The only workaround is generally to then prompt for a pin or password, which at that point would make any automatic integrations useless too.-
Really? You can barely get it to work from 10’ away let alone through a wall.

-
I consistently shout commands to my Google Home from pretty far away in my house and it works almost flawlessly.
Not sure if your experience is with an Echo maybe? -

-
Adding a unique name to an IFTTT phrase would be almost impossible to figure out when applied to opening a door.

don’t take yourself to serious it’s a garage door not really a huge safety or security issue. If someone wants in there are much easier and stealthier ways then a large overhead door.
Generally outdoor keypads are so old anyone can walk up and easily figure out what the code is by the worn down numbers or dirtiest keys. Way easier then trying to figure out if someone has an echo/google home, they trying to figure out where it is, and then shouting different phrases at it. Because that won’t draw attention.
Your chasing the wrong security risks. -

I'm actually with LiftMaster on this. In particular, I can see scenarios where a voice from outside would be audible inside and yelling "ALEXA, OPEN THE GARAGE DOOR" would actually work. And that seems like a bad idea.
Now, there is something to be said for letting the consumer evaluate the risk for himself. But in the United States, that would just be inviting a lawsuit the first time someone's house gets robbed that way.
Also, LiftMaster has a product defect that makes garage doors open automatically and randomly without any input from anyone (see the 888LM threads.) Given the focus on security evident in THIS thread, I hope we see a fix for THAT gaping security hole pronto. -

Stian, thank you for your insights. Please let me know if there is anything I can help you with. Chuck

It would be no more of a security issue then having MyQ in the first place which can easily be hacked and has been.
I say it is a lazy concern.
