IPhone App now has garage doors reversed

Hi - my iPhone app has my left and right garage doors now switched.   Everything else is fine and nothing has changed.

I have reinstalled the app and re-added my 880LM's and I can get them to stay on the correct side - even if I call one "1" and the other "2".  If I restart the app, garage door 2 is always on the left and garage door #1 is on the right.

I have checked it with another device and it is now reversed as well.

Is there something that changed, that I have missed or is there a way I can "force" the order of the garage doors on the Apple application?  I just want my right door on the right side and  my left door on the left side.

Thanks-

Chris.

    Some more details:

    1) My remotes, keypad, both 880LMs, door and gate monitor (829LM) and Homelink work fine - pressing the left button opens the left door, right opens right, left code on keypad opens left door, right code on keypad opens the right door, etc.
    2) Nothing changed physically in my setup.
    3) I checked this on another Apple device (my wife's iPhone) and it was also reversed.
    4) Deleting the doors and re-adding them did not help.  I can get the order right if I play around with it, but as soon as I stop the app (double tap the home button on the iPhone and swipe up the instance of MyQ) and re-launch it, the garage door openers are reversed again.  This is consistently the way it operates, I haven't found a way to "fool it" with names or add order.
    5) Renaming the openers or adding them in alphabetical or numeric order (first character or last character) does NOT make a difference.
    6) This used to work.
    7) I also have a MyQ light switch for my lights in the garage (not the ones in the actuators) and it does not make a difference if this is added or not.  Even with the two Liftmaster garage door openers, they reverse.
    8) I am using the MyQ (red) application, not the Chamberlain version.
    9) The version of the app is version 3.1.1.
    10) I have reinstalled the app to no avail.
    11) My internet gateway is and has always worked fine and is one floor and one room away from my garage.
    12) Re-adding the garage door openers trough the iPhone app or the website does not seem to make a difference - they reverse.
    13) I have deleted the gateway and re-installed it in the app after I deleted my settings, deleted the app and reinstalled it from scratch from the app store.

As mentioned above, I would like to enforce order of my garage door openers so it has my left door on the left and right on the right, as if I was standing in my driveway in front of them.

This seems to be an MyQ application problem or recent change, not a MyQ/Liftmaster/system issue.

I would also be curious to know how the application decides which opener goes first, second, etc.  Again - this used to be fine and now acts different in the app.

I have blanked out the place name since it is my home address.  In the first photo, if I tap the door, the right door opens, but it is the first one on the app.  Notice this is the first dot (first screen) at the bottom.  It does not matter what I name it.

Here is the second door (my left door) on the second page (" second dot" on the bottom of the app):

This second photo is my left door.  My third page is the light switch, but I didn't show that.

It always defaults this way, putting the "right door" in the first page and the "left door" in the second page.  I want to reverse this so when I push the left icon the left door opens and the pressing the second (right) icon opens the right door.

    Thanks.

    Chris,

Did you try adding the openers the opposite way? Adding garage door opener #2 first and then #1 second? I am looking into this for you.

  • Hi Dawn -  Yes - I tried adding them in reverse order.  I can make it work temporarily doing that, BUT... once I restart the application (see above, #4 in my second post), restart the phone, etc., it is reversed again and from that point forward it is always wrong.  So  add order doesn't seem to make a difference.

Thanks for looking into this.  It should be pretty easy to reproduce.  My wife's iPhone wasn't touched (other than automatic app updates) and hers was reversed as well without me doing anything to it.  I know for sure that hers used to work properly.

    Thanks!

    Chris.

I also have the problem with my Iphones and Ipads after last weekend's software update. I have three doors and they are completely mixted up. I called Liftmaster and they said they are working on it. I was told that the problem is only with Apple devices.

Resolutions for this issue and multiple users would be welcome. These are problems that just shouldn't still exist in the app.

  • Ok - So I authored this initial thread and I want to provide my update.

By the way - please keep in mind that I wrote this for Apple devices on IOS.  If you have android or another supported platform other than Apple, I would suggest starting your own thread that is specific to your device.

Since I posted this, I have upgraded to an iPhone 6 plus.  The same problems existed with version 3.1.1 of the application on my new phone.  I have been monitoring this thread.  I have done absolutely nothing with the app or any settings since writing this months ago.  I am using the latest version of iOS 9 (9.0.2) as of this writing.

On Wednesday October 7th (last Wednesday)  I did finally receive an updated application through the App Store, which is now version 3.2. The release notes in the app store just say "bug fixes."

So, I can happily report, that with my initial testing today that the problem, at least in my case, has been resolved and the left and right doors are now ordered properly in the application!  My testing has only been restarting the phone and restarting the app, but for now, it seems to be working.  I will check it with my wife's iPhone and the iPad mini later but so far, there are positive results from me.  Again - I have done nothing with the app except have it update from 3.1.1 (when it wasn't working)  to 3.2(which is working for me.)

Obviously an update was pushed this week and in my case, it has apparently solved the issue for me.  My advice to anyone with an Apple device who is seeing this is to check for updates for this app, install if required, reboot or kill the application and make sure you have version 3.2 installed.  I will post more later this weekend with what I find.
    • Hi Chris - did your issue stay solved? Thanks Dave
    • Hi Dave - I have no problems since.  I still have an iPhone 6 Plus and the wife has an IPhone7 plus with IOS 11.0.3 as of today's message.  App is up to date - everything has been working fine for me since I wrote that update two years ago.  I am not an Android user so I can't comment how that is working or not working.  I wrote this thread originally for Apple since that I what I had.  I missed some of the thread updates since my gmail was considering the message notifications spam but I have fixed that now and get the updates when people respond to the thread.

By the way, I am running version 3.89.4 of MyQ.

  • I just checked my wife's iPhone on a 5S with IOS 9.0.2 and hers received the new application last night and it is now working properly as well.  Again  - your mileage may vary but I confirmed she has version 3.2 and the ordering is now correct.  Hers was incorrectly ordered prior to the update, just like my old and new iPhones with version 3.1.1.

I just received this from Chamberlain support. Disappointing.

Thank you for contacting Chamberlain Technical Support. Below is a response to your recent contact with us.

I apologize you are having an issue with your app. From, what I've been told, the latest app update messed up the device order. At this time, there is no way to arrange the icons without deleting all the devices then re-adding them in the preferred order. However that does not always work 100% of the time. Sometimes the first thing added is the first displayed, other times it is the last displayed. I’m not sure why that is, I’m just guessing that maybe it sorts them by their internal id numbers. The app developers are planning to include the ability to drag the icons into whatever order you choose in one of the next updates. When that update will be released, I do not know.

If you need further assistance or have questions, please feel free to email me back. If you would prefer that I call you back, please email me the best phone number and time to reach you.

  • I seem to be having this same problem in my commercial building... I have installed LiftMaster Logic 5.0 (Commercial Door Operators) on my warehouse both drive up & dock doors. I have a total of 22 doors connected to two 828LM internet gateways that has become an absolute nightmare to maintain. I have established two "zones" (each internet gateway) and all of the doors are jumbled beyond recognition of the way that I programmed them into my MyQ app.

This is going to be a huge problem and I'd like to know when the issue will be fixed for good. Please keep me posted.

  • I'll add my voice to those experiencing this issue. I have four doors, and the order is jumbled. It would seem pretty trivial for LiftMaster to add an interface, either on the web site or in the app or both, that would let you simply rearrange doors in your preferred order.

It appears that Liftmaster does not weigh "customer satisfaction" very heavily when prioritizing things.  This issue would be VERY SIMPLE TO FIX if they had any intention to do so.  Just make the sequence something the user can control in the app.

I got off the phone with a tech rep earlier this evening.  I have this problem, and the first answer was that there was nothing that could be done to fix this.  (Every time I asked a question, he put me on hold so he could go talk to someone about it).  I then suggested that I delete the door on the app that was in the wrong location, and he seemed to get excited about that idea, put me on hold again, and came back on and said that would work.  I asked which of my two door openers I should delete (not knowing where the new one would be placed).  He said to delete the one on the right, and when I put it back on, it would end up on the left where it should be.  He said he would send me an email with instructions on how to add a device.

I received the instructions, and followed them.  The device would not connect.  Then I tried the written instructions that came with the opener.  They were different, and got me a little further into the process, but it still would not connect.  .  Finally I tried the instructions on this site too.  It didn't work either, didn't get as far as the original instructions.  And all three instructions were different from each other.

I remembered when I set up the system originally, gave up on the documentation, called the help line, and a woman gave me instructions that sounded like none of these, and it worked.

My overall feeling is that Liftmaster decided that they wanted to make there garage door openers part of the "Internet of things."  But from what I can see is that they tried to do it, but don't really know what they are doing.

  • I think I wrote this somewhere else, but if your phone is on the Android operating system, it will place the doors in alphabetical order on the phone.  So in my case, I labeled the doors 1 Small Garage Door and 2 Large Garage Door, and it moved 1 Door . . .  to the left of 2 Door . . .  which is how they look from the outside in real life.

But I think someone else in this discussion area said that does not work with the Apple system.  But that was quite a while ago, so if your device is Apple system, you might try it in case LiftMaster changed the Apple system.

  • Hi all,

I've learned that we currently do not have a way to change the device order in the MyQ app, unfortunately. Please know that the development team has been made aware of this feature, and let me know if you have any other suggestions.

    Chuck,

My suggestion is that this is a change that is important to the user, and should be prioritized accordingly.

The workaround fix that only works on the Android system allows me to easily visualize on the MyQ app which garage door I'm controlling.  I use the app when I'm working around the yard and want to keep the doors down when there are a lot of leaves blowing.  By using the workaround numbering method I discussed  earlier, I can position the garage door icons on the app screen just as I see them when walking up to the doors.  That makes the selection of which icon to click on very intuitive.  It also helps you to select the correct icon if you are away from the house.

MyQ icons are pictures of garage doors.  The app image should mimic the position of the real doors.

I can see where that would be a real pain for iPhone users that they cannot position the icons.

The Android workaround I've used of the naming convention isn't the right final solution.  The right solution would be that both versions of the app would allow you to order or position the icons as you see fit, regardless of operating system, and regardless of how you chose to label the doors.

At the very minimum fn the near term, the developers should quickly change the IPhone code to include the workaround capability  that is already available in the Android code.

The advertising emails that I get periodically from LiftMaster suggest that they would like to be a serious player in controlling home devices.  They won't get there if they settle on having difficult to use apps.

    That is my opinion.

    Terry

As you can see from the post, this has been ongoing for over 2 years.  It would be nice to see this finally come to a resolution.  Considering, I have not really seen any impactful changes to the application interface in the bast 2 years for iPhone.  I am sure you are attempting to keep up with iOS versions and form factors...as well as I would hope with security, but a UI update with the functionality to place the doors in an order that meets the consumers needs seems to be an easy win.

  • I'll add my own two cents to this. I have four doors, and much like Terry, I rely on the app to control them. I have more than once triggered the wrong door because of this.

This is also not the only bug that has gone unfixed for a long time. Others include:
    - Loss of communication with opener is not detected
    - Doors go into autoreverse mode after power loss
    - MyQ garage (retrofit controller) gets confused about whether a door is open or closed
    - HomeKit integration doesn't work with Liftmaster gate controllers

And that's just from memory (not all are my issues, some I've seen described in the forum as well.)

It almost feels like your development team may be understaffed. In addition to communicating these bugs to the product teams, might I suggest communicating to management that MyQ is an important part of the value proposition of current LiftMaster products, and especially in enticing people to upgrade. It should be prioritized accordingly.

  • This has been wrong for so long, the only thing I can conclude is that Liftmaster is not really committed to Internet connectivity.   I picture some small group that was given limited resources to develop a way to control the garage doors over the Internet so that they would have a sales feature.  Or they may have outsourced the app.  Either way, it appears that they have not provided resources to do maintenance for obvious bugs like this.

  • Well, it didn't seem like it could get worse, but it has.

Last week I upgraded to a new phone.   Both the old and new phone use the Android operating system.   Perhaps the app updated to a newer version during the phone transfer process.

And guess what?  As I mentioned previously, with phones using the Android operating system, choosing a name for the garage door that started with a lower number would put the icon to the left of an icon with a higher number.  That didn't work on the Iphone system, but at least it seemed to work on the Android phones up to now.

But after I fired it up on the new phone, the garage doors swapped, and changing the numbers doesn't change anything like it used to.

So it seems that whoever is doing the programming, they "updated" the Android software so it doesn't work well, just like the IPhone software never has worked well (in this regard).

If you are having this work done by a contract company, I suggest that you find a more capable company to do the work.  If you are doing the development of the App internally, ask the programer to join us here so that he/she can explain why this was made worse.

    Terry

    • Sorry to hear that Terry. I'm still subscribed to this thread so we can all chuckle together,... after all nothing else is working!

My Door 1 controller failed in the fall and upon replacing the wall unit and adding the new one into the app, I finally have Door 1 and Door 2 the correct way around again. Some others elsewhere made this comment a long way back - it seems the last added becomes the leftmost door in the app. Maybe, just maybe deleting all doors in the app then adding in 3,2,1 order will result in the correct line up.
