Is it possible to send me an alert each night at a set time if I left the door open?
-
This can't be very hard to implement, and you're only considering it?
Hey MyQ it's past 10 PM what's the garage door status?
If(open) send alert
Out of curiosity, what improvements have your engineers been working on in the meantime? -
Hello,
I would also like to highly request this feature. Based on the how the event triggers and indicated, I assumed it was present in the current system. For example, I set an event schedule for 10PM to 11:59PM every day, alerting me if the garage door was left open for more than 5 minutes. I expected an email at 10:05PM if the door was open. However, the event only fires if the door is opened and left open during that time - the event doesn't trigger if the door was open prior to 10PM.
Please strongly consider implementing this 'door left open' alert feature. Some other requests...
- Sent an alert if open or close was not successful (auto-reverse on closing, premature stop on open)
- Automatically schedule when the door opens and closes
Thank you,
Dave
-
Just to be a bit more accurate, I don't want to know if someone opens it, I want to know if it has been left open.
This could be a really great feature to add to the app - that says: Alert me if door is still open at X:XXpm
Even better would be an option to automatically close the doors each evening if they were left open.- view 3 more comments

T G December 21, 2015 23:15since this is a feature request that many of us have been waiting years for with no indication that it will ever be implemented I suggest leaving negative feedback on this product every where on the internet. maybe that will get their attention.EditDeleteRemove

This is currently unavailable in the app. However, we have heard this feedback before. We will consider adding this as a feature in a future release. Please feel free to also send us any other points of feedback. We'd be glad to hear them!

Seems like this official response was one year ago. How long does it take to implement a simple and much requested program change?
Please make a 'door open' notification based on requested notification time. -

One of the primary reasons for buying the MyQ was for the "left open" functionality. Just as Bill said I assumed the rules covered this use case but I was incorrect. I'd strongly recommend adding this feature to the web/app or opening MyQ to IFTTT to create the "left open" rule.

It's available with Wink integration with MyQ. Without any added purchase. If I leave my MyQ door open past 15 minutes, I get a push notification from Wink.
The people at MyQ is not doing a good job at dissemination of this information. Just download Wink App onto you smartphone. No need for Wink Hardware. You can get a Push Message. -

Ohh my gosh, I'm so disappointed to find out that I can't receive a notification if my garage door remains open after a certain time (i.e., 10pm - auto close at 10pm would be even better). THIS SINGLE FUNCTIONALITY WAS MY ONLY REASON FOR INVESTING IN THE MYQ SYSTEM!!! It's the most obvious application of a system like MYQ...it never crossed my mind that your engineers would neglect to implement it. You guys need to get this integrated no later than the next release...not having this feature in a system like MYQ is just embarassing. BTW, not integrating with IFTTT is almost as bad...totally surprised that I can't leverage IFTTT. IFTTT support isn't as important as having an alert to notify me if the garage door is about to remain insecure all night long, but it should certainly be the next thing you guys "fix" - that's right, I consider MYQ to be "broken" until these deficiencies are rectified.
-
-
Please add me to the list of those requesting IFTTT and/or built in functionality to have an alert and/or auto close at set times. This would be the ONLY reason I'd purchase this. I was about to purchase before I was reading this is not available. Please add ASAP so I can enjoy your product

The "notify if my door is open after xx pm is the most obvious and intuitive use of this app, and it's NOT an option? Add it Liftmaster, what the heck. I would personally like an automatic "close the door" option too. Say I leave for work everyday at 7am, if the door is open at 7:30, close it. Similarly, if the door is open at 10:30 pm, close it automatically - providing the sensors aren't being tripped or something - and send a push notification that it did it.
-
Yes, yes, yes. What Bryan said. Times ten.
-
-
-
-
-
I also purchased for 2 reasons, one being notified if I left door open when leaving for work. But apparently, my rule will only notify me if someone opens the door during the day, not if was left open. Bummer.
-
-
So, have your engineers "considered" adding this feature? Doesn't look like it. It's been 8 months since original post and still nothing.
-
-
Yevgeniy,
This is something we have under consideration, but we do not have a timetable for enabling this integration.-
We - your customers have been asking for this feature for a long time. The least you can do is provide a commitment. Or just say we have no plans to do so. The under consideration reply is getting a little old

-
-
Well, you guys need to hurry up, because this is THE feature everyone wants from myQ.
-
-
+1 This is the one feature I continue to desire. The workarounds end up giving way to many alerts during the daytime. Hope the left open alert despite time opened and failed closing alert are the two that must be added to make it completely useful.

Technically, this may be quite a big change (see why below) but I still do not understand what your developers do if you cannot implement this in such a long time.
The reason it can be a relatively big change is following. I assume the rules and notifications are done through the server (and the recent issues where users were getting false alarms from somebody else's door is the proof), then MyQ only sends message to the server when event occurs (e.g., door opened or closed). There is an opposite direction of communication when you request the status of the door or when you want to close/open it (so, MyQ should actively listen to requests/commands from the server).
Now, with rule such as "if door is open at 10 pm", the following should happen
1. Server should find out if there are rules for a specific time (for all MyQ users).
2. For each matching rule, server sends status request to the affected doors.
3. Process each response and if door status matches, send notification to user or command to the door (e.g., to close).
So, the good new is that it is simple to implement because there is no need to update MyQ firmware as it already responds to status requests from server.
The "slightly bad" news is they (lazy developers at LiftMaster) need to figure out how to run timer tasks efficiently. For example, if every user sets a rule to check the door at the same time (hypothetically, of course), then server needs to send status requests to all doors, then process responses and send back commands if needed all at approximately same time.
Hope it wasn't too technical :-) -
-
Nothing is that difficult in the IT world. Integration just takes time and resources... Ultimately money. Seems simple on the surface, but myq would have to put resources to a project to implement the integration. I'm patiently waiting for what seems to be an obvious integration w/IFTTT.
-
-
Looks like some people have figure out how to make it work using tasker, I'm going to play around with it when I have some time.

Add me to the list of "customers" that bought this item for the specific purpose of alerting me to an open door when it should be closed. I don't care how many times and when the door opens and closes. Being able to check the status when I am in doubt is comforting, but what I am mostly concerned with is if the my home is secure from someone strolling into an open door in the middle of the night. I did a lot of research on this product and I feel the marketing of this product misleads you to believe this option is available in the application. Had I known this I probably would not have purchased the product. Other than this one application deficiency the product works great.

I was robbed 2 weeks ago after leaving mine open. Stupidity should be painful, but this was the very reason I purchased my MyQ. I am still in the doghouse (they took my wife's expensive handbag and all of her belongings within) and think this should be a priority for Chamberlain's app developers. Add me to the list...
-
-
Ditto. While I'm happy to live in a neighborhood I feel relatively secure in, checking the door every night was a chore I was looking forward to farming out to the hardware/software of MyQ. Another vote.
As to some of the other questions: is there a roadmap that could be shared around the feature that are being considered, potential implementation time and so on? Surely there's a backlog of some sort that these enhancement requests are piling into for prioritization? -
-
I do not have any additional information as far as when this will take place. We are working on it.

Well, I appreciate you acknowledging the post. I'll look forward to the work, I'm sure it will happen eventually.

Ended up with 2 solutions both using VeraLite home automation system I have. Installed myQ plugin that allows to check/control doors by using myQ credentials (polls myQ server every 2 minutes for status).
1. For doors left open at night, I just have a rule to close both doors at midnight regardless of status. Pretty simple.
2. For doors left after leaving for work (I don't want to close automatically in case I or wife is actually home for any reason), I used PLEG plugin to create rule that would check status at 10 am and send e-mail/SMS if any door is open. -
-
Your workarounds are excellent - brilliant, in fact. Unfortunately, MyQ is the closest thing I have to home automation or monitoring. I will have to wait for Liftmaster to develop these innovations I guess.

Total agreement. I'm doing interesting things with IFTTT app, Wemo and LIFX and this is how I'm getting an alert from MyQ through gmail message and IFTTT will act on the email alert and flash LIFX lightbulb.
MyQ is great hardware but they have not opened up SDK interfacing and seems that they are not savvy with software and by not offering an SDK this prevents community programming to help their product. -
-
I just recently launched a new cloud automation platform that supports MyQ enabled garage doors. Here are some highlights:
- Automatically closes your MyQ enabled garage door(s) at night (whatever time you specify)
- Receive text alerts if you're garage door has been opened for whatever configurable amount of time you want.
- Check, open, or close your garage door by sending a simple text/sms message from your phone - no app required!
- Multi-user access: Allow your babysitter, house cleaner, mother-in-law, etc. access to open your garage door via text message.

Why isn't a feature? I think this is why most of us bought this device. At least I can return it.
-
-
I wouldn't rush to return it, Dawn said they were working on it 4 months ago. They should have it implemented by 2020.
-
-
I'm going to Garagio, they have IFTTT support and there are already recipes that show this functionality.

For the OP, the alert described below will bet you what you are looking for.
Create a new alert
Alert me when the 'garage door is open'
For longer than < set 0 hours and 1 minute>
Alert is active - 'Custom' <from 10:59 PM to 11:02PM>
Check off every day of the week.
This addresses the OP's original desire to have an alert sent to him @ 11:00 PM if his door is still open every night. Clearly, it does not do many of the other things discussed in this thread.- view 2 more comments

My service (https://www.justautomated.com/beta) will automatically alert you any time your MyQ enabled garage door is open for longer than x minutes. In addition to being able to open/close your garage door via text commands, you can also set it up to automatically close any open garage door at night - whatever time you specify.

Cam, it looks like your product may solve everyone's problem. I was excited to find it, but it looks like the site is down. Will it be coming back?

I bought their 829LM Garage Monitor and installed it in a place that I have to walk by on the way to bed at night. If it is flashing I at least know that one of the doors is open. And it does have a button to press to close all doors. This works (sort of) when I'm home. But if we're gone for the evening I don't have any automated way to accomplish this.
It is perplexing that Liftmaster resists updating their App to add such a simple feature.
From a programmer's perspective it should be a relatively simple tweak to their App logic to implement a timer function capable of closing a door at a designated time. Obviously it would go through the same audio alarm beeping just prior to closing. This upgrade should allow the owner to set a time of day that he/she wants to ensure that the door is closed. And if for any reason it didn't close, a simple alert message to the phone would be a splendid way to notify the owner that the door had not been closed.
As an IT support professional it frustrates me that Liftmaster seems dis-interested in upgrading their software. I wish they would prove me wrong... By comparison I bought a fitness watch in January that has had 3 software upgrades in the past 9 months!

I gave up waiting for MyQ to do anything with their app. MyQ talks to my Wink Hub and I've integrated Philips Hue. Together with IFTTT, I now have Hue change Color when my garage door is open and I get a push alert after 10 minutes (set by me) that my garage door is open.
