LiftMaster 8550W - Not able to start the setup myQ serial number after launching the web brower on iPhone

I just had my LiftMaster 8550W model installed today by professional.  Then I tried to follow the instructions to connect my garage door opener to my iPhone 6s as follows:
1.  Use the Smart Control Panel to setup WiFi:  Menu --> Program --> WiFi Setup to obtain a blinking blue LED on my garage door opener unit - WiFi was in active
2.  On my iPhone, I was able to select the network with the MyQ prefix  to obtain the SOLID BLUE LED on my unit.
3.  Next step to launch the web browser on my iPhone with URL "setup.myqdevice.com".  The screen prompts to connect the opener to my WiFi - MyQ prefix - active network (from step 2). However, I could NOT proceed further from this screen, since it does not provide me the "Start" or "Set Up" button to enter the MyQ serial number to register my unit.  It only displays three selection options: "Change WiFi Settings", "Erase Wi-Fi Settings", "About" buttons.   So I am stuck at this step and my unit has never gotten the solid "GREEN LED"  to have a succesful WiFi connection to the MyQ server. Therefore, I have not successfully entered my MyQ serial number into the server, even though I downloaded the MyQ app from the App Store on my iPhone.

Am I missing something or doing something wrong?  Please help!

  • I wanted to update the status of my WiFi connection to the MyQ server as described previosly.  I believe that the first time when I tried to connect to MyQ server with "Blinking Blue LED" light, the server must have been down.  Therefore, it had never been connected successfully; and as a result, the main screen has never been reset to the beginning with the "START" button to be selected on the main screen.
Today - 4/6/16, I tried to go thru the setup process again, and cleared the WiFi setting by selecting the "Erase WiFi setting" button, and it was succesfully cleared it.  Then I tried to go back to the URL "setup.myqdevice.com" again from my iPhone,  Low and behold!!! the main screen has been reset with the "START" button. Then, I selected the "START" button and followed the setup process to enter my MyQ serial number, and configured my places setting for my garage.  Yoo whoo!  I am in heaven now!!!
The key thing here is that if it hapens to you guys, keep trying and reseting the Wifi setting until you see the "START" selection button to enter your MyQ serial number.  Without this process, you will not be able to use the wonderful MyQ technology.  Good Luck to you all!!!

  • Quyen thanks for your comment. Our Myq quit working after 8 mos. It dawned on me that we had had a power outage about the time Myq quit working . I followed the manual and it still wouldn't work. I then tried "Erase WIfi setting as you suggested, followed your other steps and Bingo!!! MyQ now working normally.

The odd thing about the power outage was the Smart Control Panel showed the correct time after outage occurred.
