Several
times, we've forgotten to check and see if the door is closed before going to
bed... Anyone got any way to show if the door is closed without checking the app
or going outside? Is there a way to program the app to alarm when it's open
after dark? Or maybe someone out there has a wireless solution of some sort,
that would 'remind' me to close the door before bedtime. I like having it open
for some time during the day, but I just can't seem to consistently go out and
check every night. What say you??

My neighbor has had to tell me that the garage door is open after the sun goes down.

Do you have a Garage Monitor (829LM)? It might help if you don't. I have one and it works great.

Ross - Do you have one of our MyQ enabled garage door openers? Because our garage door monitor (829LM) will not program to a MyQ Garage.

Dawn, what do you mean your garage door monitor (829LM) will not program to a MyQ Garage? My 829LM Garage Monitor works great with my MyQ garage system. My system is a 8500 Opener and 888LM Control Panel.
-
Charlie - The 829LM will program to the MyQ Control Panel (888LM) but it does not program to our MyQ Garage universal controller. It's the MyQ device that works with Chamberlain and LiftMaster openers, as well as different brands of garage door openers to make them MyQ compatible. Where the Internet Gateway connects via an ethernet cable to your router, the MyQ Garage connects via Wi-Fi to a wireless network.

I guess Ross needs to say what control panel and door opener he has so you can let him know if the 829LM garage monitor will work or not.

Oh oh! I'll have to look into this... I've ordered (and it's on it's way) a 829LM. I guess I didn't research this as thoroughly as I should have. Exactly what am I to look for to know if the 829LM is compatible? I'll post my CP and opener model numbers, if I can find them...

Sorry to hijack this thread - but how was this resolved? I have the same issue. I have an 888LM control panel and the 828LM Gateway. I receive the alerts when the door opens or closes, but like the original poster I would like to receive an alert if the door is left open after a certain time. (after 9pm for example) I have tried to set up rules for this, but I do not get any alerts. thanks.

I'm sure there are more elaborate ways of programing your cell phone or some other type of alert, but in the end, I went with the 829 LM. This was the right solution for me. It will live where ever there is a plug for the wall wart power supply, so you can put it in any convenient place. It has a bright green light for 'door closed' and a flashing red light for 'door open'. And, you can close (but not open) the door from the same device. We just have it on the charging table so that when we put our phones to bed at night, you can't miss the nice, reassuring, green light! Problem solved!

Thanks for the follow-up. Glad it works for you, but I guess not the result I was hoping for. Since posting here, I did find another thread on the same topic, and it looks like the overwhelming majority of users are also looking for a solution that includes an alert through the app. I just purchased the system, and I must say I assumed this would be included, as it seems to be the most obvious use. It is pretty shocking to see that it hasn't been addressed by liftmaster/chamberlain. I'm sure its not as easy to implement as some assume, but how this could not have been on the 'roadmap' since day 1 baffles me.
Thanks again.- view 6 more comments

I'm sorry, I guess I was imagining it. Looks like I've been living with a false sense of security for the last year since I installed my Liftmaster openers. I just tested it and as has been said, the functionality falls short of expectation. My alarm system sends me a reminder if the system is not in a certain state (armed) at a given time. It really wouldn't be that difficult to do.
Hopefully it's on a roadmap. -

I understand your frustration Mike. Perhaps that would be an update they could do in the MyQ app in the near future; let's hope, as I would like that as well.
Just FYI, I forgot to mention that the 829LM also periodically, beeps (loud, medium, quiet, or none) to let you know that the door is open. (...what is that beeping sound?) An extra reminder.
r-
Ross - On page two of the manual you can see what each of the beeps mean.

Has any tried out any of the IFFFT rules?

If they work (I cannot vouch for them as I have not tried them) you can modify them to your likings. -

Yes, I would like to be reminded that like after 9:30 PM my door is open. I've accidentally left it open over night a couple times! Thankfully nothing has walked...
