my says my garage is open but it has been closed all day.
my says my garage is open but it has been closed all day. I have an alert set if my garage is left open and I have received it twice when the garage is closed today.
-
Evan, do you have these alerts set for push notifications or email? If you only have push notifications enabled, can you enable the email function as well and let us know if there are any discrepancies with the timestamps on both the email and push notifications? Please email us at myqcommunity@liftmaster.com so that we can exchange more information regarding your account.

I have this same thing happen all the time. The app shows the garage door is open when I know it's not. I have to "close it" which actually opens it, then close again to fix the problem.
-
Tom,
What is the brand and model number of your opener? -

We have two garage doors with separate LiftMaster openers and MyQ Garage sensors (shared hub). I have phantom opening reported with one opener fairly frequently. Yesterday, I received 7 alerts about the garage door opening and closing. The closing sometime occurs at the same time as the opening, but two of those 7 times it was several hours later. Having been home, I know that the garage door did not move. My is to simply disregard these notices, but I have no confidence of the accuracy of the notices when I'm at work or traveling.

Put my new sensor in the other day and now my other door is giving false opens. Agree about no confidence and really hope there's an explanation for this.
-
-
Mine has recently been doing same thing. It says open when closed and vice verse. I have 2 sensors on 2 doors and has been very frustrating.
Was there a solution ever put out? Example of door that is closed but saying is open.
-
-
The last couple of iOS updates along with a new sensor and batteries seemed to solve it for me.. The other thing I did that might matter is move router a bit closer to garage as signal was weak.
-
-
Thanks for the response. I replaced battery and the readded device but still getting error. The other door/sensor seems to be fine. I would think a sensor should last more than a year, right?
-
-
well I spoke too soon apparently. Got a false open again this morning, and it's been fine for weeks. It was my 2 car garage this time, whereis initially was just my single. Any solutions out there???

The hub is probably 10 feet from the sensor, and perfect line of sight. 9 out of 10 times it works, but the 1 time it doesn't I hit the button to close it thinking it's open....and I've now opened my door. Fortunately someone has been home each time this has happened but really does defeat the purpose of the alerts.
-
-
When this happens, and you receive the alert, does the door's status also confirm that it is open and for how long?

I guess I would have expected Chamberlain to have provided some recommendations for best performance. Was this not tested?
My hub is about 5fl from the closest opener, with a line of sight to both openers and door sensors. I haven't had the signal of a false door opening in several weeks, but then I've altered my behavior - I unplug the hub whenever I leave town because I can ever be sure with this device. Sometimes when I open one of the garage doors via the hard-wired button, the opening is not registered with MyQ. This is disappointing in that I have no faith in the accuracy of the alerts. -
-
Andrew, can you please email me your username to MyQCommunity@LiftMaster.com, I would like to check the status from our end.

I'm having the same problem with mine. I have an alert (email & push notification) set if the door is left open more than 30 minutes. I've gotten two false alarms already today. When I go to the app/website it also shows the door is open. I'm at home, so it's easy enough to look in the garage and see that the door is indeed closed.
I just installed the MYQ-G0201 4 days ago. The hub is about 5 feet from the opener and has a strong wifi signal to my router. The sensor is on the top panel of the garage door.
I have to agree with the other people suffering from this issue - it's hard to have confidence in this product. The sole reason I got this was to remove any anxiety about leaving the garage door open. If I can't trust the product to know if the door is open or closed, it's useless to me. -
-
Indeed, this product can be anxiety-generating rather than relieving. Soon after posting my previous comment, my alerts and MyQ history indicated that one of our two connected garage doors opened twice on New Year's Day, without any closing in between. According to the log, the garage door finally closed at 11:05pm. Thankfully, I was home the entire time and could confirm that the garage door never moved on New Year's Day.
I bought this product for convenience and reliability. It has provided neither. It's not even amusing to follow the alerts for what it "thinks" is going on. It has dampened my enthusiasm for any further connected devices in my home. I would never recommend this to anyone. -
-
I have two older Craftsmen Doors on a MyQ and on one (Mom's) I also have a Smarthings door sensor to let me verify status of the door being opened because we get spurious notifications of opening and closing. The history file shows 3 open/close events this morning (may 16th) although the door never budged. This happens the most when it is very windy......
Indeed this can be anxiety inducing and I would recommend Chamberlain finds out why this is happening.

I've had many falses this last few weeks. It was working well for a while but back to its' old tricks. Very frustrating and fortunately someone has been home to confirm that the door was shut. Chamberlain please find a solution to this, as the falses make it essentially worthless. I'm ready to buy a camera and use that instead.

Same problem here. MyQ showed open when closed and vice versa. I reset to factory defaults which cleared problem, but it showed up again two days later. Is there a fix?
-
-
ended up buying a camera and no longer recommend this product to friends and neighbors. It's caused more stress than being helpful. Hope they get it straightened out, as it's a great idea.
-
-
Yes, great idea, but badly executed. We did the reset and reconfiguration, and the same unreliability and false readings persist. Chamberlain has never addressed this, which is unfortunate. My fix was to unplug it; I can't chance the security risk it presents.

I have recently, within the last 2 weeks, been having the same problem - get notified the door remains open even though I can verify that it is closed. I try to close the door thru the app and after 1 minute, get a response saying the app cannot communicate with the opener, which I visually verify means the previously closed door has just been opened, and then I try again and now the door closes, and I get a message that the door has closed. It appears maybe the door sensor has gone bad since it cannot communicate with the base unit???
-
-
I'm having the same problem now after 2 years of reliable service. Maybe it is the sensor going bad??

Just installed the MyQ for my Genie opener, past weekend (3 days back). Today, i opened the door using the app and closed it using the remote in my car. I saw the door closed as i drove away. After 30 mins (i shave alert set for this), i get the "door open" alert. So i had one of my friends living close by check out the garage and it was indeed closed. I had to close the door on the app which in fact opened the physical door and then the app updated with real status. Then i closed it again with the app.
It's hard to have confidence in this product. The very reason I got this was to remove any anxiety or doubt about leaving the garage door open. I can't trust the product to know if the door is open or closed. Thinking about returning it and try the one from Genie.

Has this bug been fixed? I am having the same issue. We wait in our driveway to visually confirm the door is closed then text the spouse so they we are not erroneously alarmed with a bogus message. The system is less than 2 years old. Battery was tested and is surprisingly strong. What's the fix?
-
-
Tried everything and still get false alarms. Only fix was a camera in the garage. Very disappointed and unless they come up with a fix and make good on it they will no longer get my $s. Too bad, great idea poorly executed and sadly silent on the matter.

I'm home w the garage door closed, just got an open notification. What's the fix? Is there a software upgrade? So disappointing.
-
-
I'm the same boat as everyone else here. The whole reason I bought this product was to help me know when my garage is open/close and to be able to activate it remotely. The product is wholly unreliable with respect to my first expectation. VERY disappointed.

I had the same issue yesterday. Was sitting in my house when I got an alert that the door was opening. I checked and it wasn't open. I checked the app and it said it was open. I pushed the garage door on the app and the door opened. I pressed it again and the door closed and then the app said it was closed. This is not good. Spent $90 on this and it's not working how it was advertised.

I am having the same issue and it now actually increases security concerns--especially with young children and pets. I have a hard enough time convincing my husband that this is the right route to go, and now this just makes him feel justified. How can the same issue be going on for years without a reliable fix published? I am frankly sick of it. Had a couple of minor issues and reset, but now it is not working at all with the app!!! It is not the distance either. God forbid, does a major security incident have to occur and result in a lawsuit (or worse) before the manufacturer addresses? I am typically patient, but now I am skeptical!
By the way:
1. It is NOT the wifi/router distance.
2. No low battery warning.

Been happening to me lately too. I have a wink hub and wonder if it is related to that. If I open the door from the wink hub it doesnt seem to register in the app that it has been open and then if I close the door using the physical button it says that its been opened. So the first opening isnt registering and its taking the second button press (to close it) as the opening. That was the first issue, then just today I started getting the false notifications. It told me that the door was open after I closed it, unsure I went home at lunch to check and sure enough it was closed I closed using the physical buttons and when I left it said the garage was closed on the app. 30 min ago I check the app, I dont have any notifications set, that the garage door has been open for 20 min. I texted a neighbor who luckily was home to check and he said that the door was closed. I changed the battery 2 days ago so that isnt the problem and I have other smart home stuff in the garage that hasnt had any signal loss so its an issue with my router. It has also been working fine for a months and all of a sudden I'm getting the issue. I'm going to uninstall/reinstall the app and re-add the opener and see if that helps. Like everyone else on here I got this to double check that the door is closed as I can never remember if it is or not and when I see its been open for 4 hours I go into panic mode. It could be related to having it connected to my Wink hub so I will try removing it from there as well. Either way a fix would be nice!
