MyQ App will not accept 11 digit Serial Number- HELP!!
-
I understand your frustration. The MyQ logo is on all of our products that have the MyQ technology, these include our garage door openers, remote light controls and the door monitor. The Internet Gateway is compatible with our MyQ openers and can be used with the MyQ Control Panel, as a quick and convenient way to add Security+ 2.0 and MyQ technology to existing Chamberlain garage door openers manufactured after 1998.
-
hello, My name is Joe and I have a MyQ garage door opener and a wireless keypad and two controllers all came with model #HD420EV. I also have a very good router runs cameras and TV's and internet blah blah and a note 3 smartphone all the things the box said you needed and just like these others my box said the exact same thing download free app, to control your door get instant alerts if it is opened all to your smart phone. but it did not say NOT BUY ANOTHER GOD DAMN PART TO DO IT ! I Mean how would you feel if you went and purchased tires and with the tire purchase they said free rotations so you save your receipt and you come back to rotate your tires and the answer you get is free rotations? they roll don't they, you say yes they say no one is charging for that are they? you say no they say then you got your free rotations now that will be another 60.bucks please! are you not gonna be pissed off? sending this to the BBB, maybe the local Attorney General. you can not completely and purposely miss lead people to gain profit nor can you sell a product that says it will do something it does not unless clearly marked that you need to purchase other accessories.. to make it work. your company sucks
-
OMG, this is a COMPLETE false advertisement. I bought the Chamberlain LW5000EW thiking it will work with MyQ phone app. It turns out you need to buy a separate accessory (internet gateway). Called up the Chamberlain customer service, it says it is ONLY MyQ compatible. What?? Why did you put the logo there and not tell people it is NOT included? The logo is on the garage door opener and the box. Why would you claim it is compatible when this internet gateway is compatible with ANY garage door opener made after 1993? What a complete rip off. I am an upset customer, will never purchase any Chamberlain or LiftMaster products. Hopefully this will go viral.

Ya this rep is not helpful at all... I just got an opener and the first thing I did was check the serial number on the opener itself. That serial number is 11 digits. Instead, you need to get the serial number from the device that connects to your router - that device provides the internet gateway this rep is talking about. Just make sure you connect it to a router that is connected to the internet. Then get the serial number from the MyQ device that you connected to your router. That's the number you need to use. Mine had 10 numbers and one letter, though. It looked something like this 0000 00a 000. So this is confusing too. Just enter the numbers and letter(s) in their proper order and it should work. Hey MyQ people, feel free to hire me for contractual work. I'd be happy to explain this stuff in ways that consumers can understand. Sincerely, me - PMP, MBA, SSGB
-
Well I guess this "solves" this issue for me too. My installers answer to my "the serial number is too long so I can't do the app" was "I'm not a tech guy, you'll have to call their customer support". So basically you guys are doing a terrible job with communicating how this works to the suppliers and to the consumers.
Customer service is terrible too to be perfectly honest. I was told I'd receive a response within one business day and I did not. It should really be an all in one package because clearly that's what everyone is assuming they are getting. -
Misleading and false advertising at its best. Garage door installers did not know that this was the case as they too believed that I could just set it up myself without any additional components.
-
The serial number required in the MyQ app is the serial number of an Internet Gateway or MyQ Garage. For your opener, you will need an Internet Gateway to get your opener onto a MyQ account. Let us know if you have any other questions!

Brad, would you be able to contact us at myqcommunity@liftmaster.com to share some information regarding your experience with the dealer. I would be glad to look into this as well. -

I completely agree, we just bought it. The ONLY reason we bought it is because of the misleading MyQ info on the box. Now we have to go buy the Gateway too. Completely false advertisement. This is very deceiving!

Also, $50 may be a lot for folks, especially after spending $250 already.
-

Yes I realize all of this - however, I first posted a similar complaint when I got mine over a year ago, and people are still posting it... which means, it's still and issue on the packaging. Obviously the manufacturer isn't going to change the packaging - and they sure as hell aren't going to buy everyone who posts here complaining (and there are many) a router. I realize it sucks, I realize some people cannot afford a router. I did end up buying the thing and the APP itself is pretty remarkable. You can also buy (yes, you have to pay extra) sensors for applicances and lights, and turn things off and on, open and close your garage, etc., anywhere in the world - via the internet. I live in Virginia and opened my door for a delivery while in Hawaii. So = one of these days get one and have fun. I realize it's frustrating at the moment.

I agree with most of the other frustrated buyers. We just had our new Garage door opener installed yesterday and were told "Oh you can use your mobile phone to open and close the garage door". aLL YOU HAVE TO DO IS DOWNLOAD THE APP. I HAVE BEEN FRUSTRATED FOR 2 DAYS OFF AND ON WITH THIS. Now to only find out this has been a waste of time? Its not what it says it is? Yes, that is what I call false and deceptive advertising. I would not have gotten this garage door opener if I had know this.
-
-
I too have just spent over $350 for a new opener and install and spent all afternoon trying to figure out the myQ app set up just to figure out that I have to spend over 60 more dollars to work. This is outrageous. I have a nest thermostat and didn't have to purchase an Internet gateway for that. Liftmasters are great garage door openers and will last forever but if the people behind the product are willing to mislead you to buy there products then that will outweigh my decision next time to go with their product.

Hey Folks - Sign me up for the Class Action Lawsuit too !....
Even the App itself SHOWS and STATES that the myQ serial number is quote "located on the side with the antenna wire or on the front of the manual". It pictures the garage door opener showing exactly where the myQ serial number is located - with these instructions.
OH but wait - The App asks that - if your brand new Opener doesn't have this 10 digit serial number where we show and tell you it is....the App "conveniently" will take you to actual gateway you Need and even have a Cart so you can buy it for only $ 56.93 !!
This company's management aren't just Con Artists - they're A-Holes. Let's sue them.
-
-
I was confused at 1st because the app kept asking for a 10 digit serial # and the serial # on my opener was 11 digits until I did further investigating and found out that the serial # in question was the 10 digit serial # on the actual Internet gateway product which I purchased of eBay for $20, I then added this serial number on the app and within 2mins I had my mobile garage door working perfectly!
-
-
well, the instructions tell you to locate the serial number on the Front of your Garage Door opener, which of course is 11 digits as everyone says. I just googled Internet gateway product and found several of them for under 50.00. But Chamberlain should be upfront and say, must buy extra device. They lie in their instructions and in their app instructions, not sure why they are trying to upset their customer base. I will buy the 50.00 add on, but I will "NEVER" buy chamberlain again and I will never recommend it to others. Shady business practices do not work in America. That is how you lose customers, that may work over sees, but here in the homeland, that type of business practice doesn't go very far.
-
-
I apologize for the inconvenience. We do have some garage door openers that come with the Gateway or are already Wi-Fi capable, not requiring an extra device. The app will request the serial number from the garage door opener only if you select that you have a Wi-Fi garage door opener, with a "Wi-Fi" logo on the operator itself. If you do not have a Chamberlain or LiftMaster Wi-Fi garage door opener with a "Wi-Fi" logo on the operator, the app will ask for the serial number on the Gateway or MyQ Garage accessory. I apologize again if the packaging was misleading. The packaging will state that a "MyQ Gateway is required for app control" on the packaging when the Gateway is not included and includes it in it optional accessories listed on the carton, while a unit that comes with a Gateway will say "Gateway included for app control". We did not include the Gateway with every unit as not everyone wanted that feature, so we gave the option to purchase separately instead of altogether. If you have any follow up questions, please let us know.
-
And that helps with the 11 digit number how?
-
-
If it does not come with it, it should not have the logo. You can make just about any garage door wifi with additional equipment, and your app should not tell you to locate the serial number on the fucking garage door opener.

Nowhere on the product packaging does it say that I need a gateway to operate the app. So this is another incorrect statement. Sign me up for that class action suit

I am sorry that everyone had a problem seeing the note that a Gateway was required. When I purchased my unit, I was well aware that I would need a Gateway also. I purchased the unit last fall and waited all winter for my installer to get around to installing it, but no luck so I did it myself. No small feet on a 12' x 12' door. That task done and now on to my problem. I hooked up the Gateway, registered it, and then hit the add button. It asked me to hit the learn button which I did, but after multiple attempts, I have not been able to get the Gateway paired with the garage door opener. What am I doing wrong?
-
-
I can take a picture of the box of you like to prove that nowhere does it say that a gateway is required. I'll go back to Lowes and take a picture of the advertisement there as well if you like, however, it is not specified anywhere prior to purchase that a gateway is required for the lw5000ev

Not a big fan of Lawyers.....but I sure wish one would start up a Class Action Lawsuit here !
Chris - you're sure a lot nicer than I was with my initial post. Something about the Senior Management of this company being a bunch A-Holes. Yup - not very professional as I had the emotions running pretty high when I Realized I'd been Conned.
NOW - It's one thing to realize that you're missing key information on the outside of your product packaging.....it's a whole other level of A-Hole ness not to correct it. And that borders on fraud.
-
-
I'm right here with y'all. Very misleading. Just wasted an hour looking for the serial number that doesn't exist.
-
-
-
-
So we bought and had a new Liftmaster (model 8550) opener installed and bought the Gateway with it. Battery back up and all. I was excited about the myQ ..... And now I find the serial number is 11 digits on the damned opener in the garage and the BS app only lets me enter 10 digits which is great for the gateway but unless I can't enter the cursed 11 digest serial number for the opener...... Maybe I need to contact the BBB.

And I will add my voice to the annoyed and disappointed people here. If there's a class-action suit, sign me up please. I'll never buy Chamberlain again, and will recommend to everyone I know to avoid them.

Just bought a LM 8355. I replaced an older LM model. On that one - I had the APP on the smart phone - CIGBU/C router. That all worked fine. This new one comes with a Bg "My Q" emblazoned on it - so one would assume - it would catch the signal from the router and all would work just fine. Well, it doesn't. So, it's asking me to enter in a 10-digit number on the garage door unit - where the hell is it? The serial number has 11 digits - ?? It's asking for 10? I dropped the front light cover, the back light cover - where he hell is it? Bluetooth is ON on my phone - it's picking everything up in the neighborhood except my door opener. I just had it installed today. Well?? Help please?

Yay! I am so glad that worked for you. As you stated, the 888LM is used to make older Chamberlain openers MyQ compatible. It is not compatible to the new MyQ openers. We do have a a couple different control panels that will work with your 8355 that have the Timer to Close option. They are the 880LM and the 881LM. Both of them can be found here, https://www.liftmaster.com/For-Homes/Accessories/Control-Panels. If you have any other questions, let me know.

OK - very cool. I can live without the timer for now. The APP was what I wanted to get up and rolling again. Very much appreciate the help and the quick turnaround. Outstanding.

What they don't tell you is that you actually have to purchase the gateway in order to use the app. Nowhere does it say that on the box, false advertising!
-
-
For those of you who own the internet gateway already and have an 11 digit code with NO actual MyQ serial number. My 3/4 hp Model WD962MLEV does not have a MyQ number and only has the 11 didgit serial number. I have the internet gateway setup, my garage door opener setup, and everything functioning properly. If you are this far and do not see the actual garage door within the app to control it.
Follow these steps to add your garage door to your app:
https://veterangaragedoor.com/faq/how...
1. Open up your app, click the "+" symbol and "Add New Device"
2. Click "Garage Door opener"
3. It will ask you "Are you adding a Wi-Fi Garage Door Opener?", the important part is you want to select "No".
4. Now on your actual garage door opener you want to click the big yellow learning button, your lights will flash and you should be all finished now.
Took me awhile to find this answer and I did not read it anywhere if I overlooked it in the installation I am not sure. This should hopefully solve this question for those of you with a similar setup. -

Dawn and other LiftMaster Reps:
Is Liftmaster going to distribute routers to all customers who purchased these devices?
Your bait-and-swtich technique is clearly fraudulent and the cleverly confusing marketing and signage that is universal in the packaging, app, and product itself are consistently made to fool the customer and cause another expense.
Please contact me to arrange for delivery of the internet gateway. -

No Dave ,dont hold your breath the reply I got was they removed my comment even thought it had likes was obviously not offensive because no one would have liked it then one would think. But the one thing she didnt say or mention in anyway was the willingness to fix the problem. More worried about company image I guess. So good luck please let me know your progress if any and I will repost what happens after we contact our attorney general to see what our options are all states have different laws for different situations so will post what ours says to do as soon as we know.

Well, this is EXTREMELY frustrating... If I would have known that I was spending over $250 on a garage door opener that will require me to spend another $50 to get it to connect to my phone. I wish I would have spent waaay less on one that did tue same thingmine does now, press a controller button and open the door and paid $150. This was quite deceptive and pretty skeevy. Where are we on that class action suit? I agree this is false advertising. I will be suggesting my friends and neighbors and anyone that will listen not to buy from this comapany and will never purchase from them again.
Ridiculous.-
I obviously would have bought another less expensive brand without the MyQ technology too since it is essentially ONLY performing the basic function of opening and closing the door right now!!!

8550w do I need the gateway with this because it keeps popping up error codes 309 and this is the second circuit board.

James - You do not need a gateway. The 8850W has an internal gateway. It just needs to be connected to your Wi-Fi network. I have included instructions.

Just so people know, its not hard to sue them. I bought them for my business, got about 16 of them because I was told when I bought them I could use smart phones to open them. Well after finding out that was wrong. I sued chamberlain and won almost 24k in my time and money. Fuck this company, and by my understanding they won't be open much longer.
-
-
yep.. and no answer after the first email from the support either.. we had a new Liftmaster 8065 chain driven garage door opener installed at our place. The one question I asked when I set up the appointment for the dealer to come and install was that I need a good "smart" garage door opener. The company, xxxxx in Danville, IN promised that the best they have is the Liftmaster 8065 which will let you control your garage door from anywhere using an app on my smart phone.
Once they completed the install, i downloaded the MyQ app from the apple appstore and when I tried to set it up, it kept asking me for the 10 digit Myq serial number which was nowhere to be found on the opener. My installer mentioned that he is not a tech guy and i will have to get in touch with Liftmaster.
After further research I found out that I may need an "Internet gateway" to enable the smart features on this opener. This is false advertisement at its worst. Please do not claim or let your dealer claim that you are giving me a smart opener when I need additional parts to enable that feature. Why not advertise every accessory as part of the package then? You do sell keypads and such. Why not claim that as a feature and then trick the user after the install? this is going straight to BBB.. -
