MyQ does not send me a notification until the Garage is full open

I have a lift master garage door opener. I have connected it to the internet by using
  • (1) MyQ® Control Panel - 888LM
  • (1) LiftMaster Internet Gateway 828LM
I created a MyQ account and I have the app on my phone. (The Chamberlain MyQ App).

It does correctly send me a notification when my Garage door closes.

However, it does not send me any notification when the Garage door is partially opened. When the door is fully opened, it clearly sends me the push notification and email. However, when the garage door is only partially opened - it does not send me any notification.

That beats the purpose.

Is there a way to solve the problem?

Vijayvnair - No, the notifications are sent when the door reaches it full open and closed position. If you stop the door before it reaches the full open position it will not send a notification.

    Thank you for the reply.

Can you please add that as a feature request? The purpose of using an automated tool to notify you if a Garage is open or not - is beaten if it does not detect a open garage.

So, some one can get into my home. Open the Garage. And make sure it does not open all the way. And my tool will not notify me about the event.

I think, the moment a garage door starts opening... you should send a notification out saying "Your garage door has started opening".. and when it completes you can send your "Your garage door was opened.." notification.

That way.. it becomes more useful.

    • Just to add to what Dawn is saying. I am assuming you did what I did by retrofitting your non-MyQ opener with the MyQ control panel. Based on my understanding of that setup, getting that done with the control panel 888LM without introducing another accessory in the mix might not be possible. The support folks will need to jump in to confirm or deny that statement. My point here is the circuit between the opener and the control panel is a very simple circuit. It is basically a relay. It can be compared to an on/off switch: the garage door is either opened or closed. There would have to be an additional signal from the opener indicating the garage door is not opened or closed which could be assumed is partially opened. At that point they might as well just figure out a way to indicate exactly where the garage door is in its travelling distance.

I wonder if you could use one of those garage door monitors to know if the garage door is partially opened. If not, you may have a garage door component/accessory patent opportunity on your hands! :-)

    • We just had a LiftMaster GDO installed and I second the request.

I know of someone that has reversed engineered the protocol and found that a status bit is already being set that indicates the door has stopped. I do not know which opener they have. To me, this is a MAJOR security breach to not be able to know when the door is stopped, especially for a period of time. In my opinion, a stopped (a partially opened door), is just as much of a security issue as a fully opened door.
