The Door cannot be controlled because of too many failed attempts. Please operate the door locally to reset and allow unattended operation.

I am getting this message almost every time I try to close the door with my phone (android and iphone)...even though there has not been any failed attempts.  Opening is not a problem.  If I reset manually then try, the door works fine.....until I go to use it again after a few hours, then the problem is back.

I had same problem, but it was happening on my computer.  I took the apps off both phones and computer then reinstalled them.  Before reinstalling, open and close your door twice using wall opener. This resets system.  Try to open again with apps and computer. Hope this works.

    Christian,

I was going to suggest deleting the garage door opener from the app and then re-add it. John has offered some good options that worked for him. So, if deleting and re-adding doesn't work, I would try the steps he provided.

  • * My App is now working! I DID NOT install a new version, it simply started working after I created a Rule for Closure and a separate Rule for Opening --- I don't know if this is coincidence or not??? The App now waits about 16 to 20 seconds for the door to close after it starts moving (it now reports "closed" about 4 to 8 seconds after the door stops moving).  Prior it only waited about 5 to 8 seconds after the door started closing & then would report "Close error" but my door takes 12 to 13 seconds to close.

Prior to just now, here was my situation in detail that applied identically for both for the MyChamberlain iPhone App and the Website, resulting in "close error" and "open error" with the detail of, "The Door cannot be controlled because of too many failed attempts. Please operate the door locally to reset and allow unattended operation."

    Here's my detailed notes:

I tried as "John 2" above suggested, but I continued to have the exact same issue.

I am GUESSING that the problem is the SPEED of my door's operation (open or close).
My Garage motor is Craftsman model 139.53648st and it takes 12-13 seconds to open.
The App/Web only waits 5 to 8 seconds for the door to close/open before reporting an error - too short. Or maybe the MyQ Door Sensor's motion sensor is not sensitive enough to really sense motion is still taking place or it needs to wait longer for that final "bump" when the door stops moving?

When I use the App/Web to CLOSE the door, the hub beeps for 9 seconds,
THEN the door moves and after 5 to 8 seconds the App/Web shows the "close error"
but my door continues for the next 4 to 7 seconds to finish it's 12 seconds of movement too closure.
The App/Web will not work thereafter.
I must then use my car opener or wall button to move the door.  (Apparently the motion Door Sensor needs that verticle-to-horizontal movement to "reset." )
The App does not show that the door changed position, however, it still counts the minutes as if the door did not change its prior door position.  I must press any menu item to go away from "places" which is where the door-graphic is shown, then go back to the "places" for it to show the new door position &THEN suddenly my Rule for push-notification of door CLOSURE arrives with the "right now" time stamp instead of the actual door closure time stamp.

The same situation is applicable to OPENING the door, omitting the initial 9 seconds of beeping.

    * Please note, now my App is working correctly -- Please read the first paragraph of this reply for my fix

    JohnN.
