Update texts but not images tool

It will be great if the tools can allow me to update JUST the text but not the images. The collection I made consists of 150 images and the final folder consists of ~200,000 files. I believe most of them are the tilesets of the images.

    Peter,

Are you using the Excel tool to generate your collection? This is a great idea that could save lots of time; we'll definitely consider it. In the mean time, the following might be a way for you to accomplish what you're trying to do.

Update the text as needed in the excel spreadsheet, but instead of publishing the collection, just do a "Quick Preview". This will create a cxml file for your collection that doesn't contain any imagery. In the Pivot address bar, note the location of the temporary cxml file and save it to a more permanent location.

Edit the cxml file and change the ImgBase attribute of the <Items> element to point to the dzc that was previously created for your collection. You'll also have to change the Img property for each item to be "#<id>" where <id> is the value for the Id attribute for that element. For a large collection this can be tedious but doing a search/replace with regular expressions makes it a snap.

    Hope this helps!

I should also clarify that the Excel tool will not recreate all of the files for a collection every time you decide to publish. As long as you don't move the collection files from the original place they were published to, the Excel tool will only regenerate the high level imagery.

You'll notice that in the worksheet generated by the tool, there are some hidden columns between column C and column G. If you highlight these columns and then right-click->Unhide, you'll see the column LastImage. As long as the collection image files are still at the path listed in this column, then imagery won't be regenerated for your collection.

By "high level imagery", I mean the DZC file is regenerated each time. DZIs are only regenerated if the items Image Location changes.

The Developer Info section of our site has more information about the difference between DZC and DZI files.
    Deep Zoom Images
    • Got it. I just wasn't familiar with that terminology for deep zoom collections.

When publishing with the Excel tool does it always publish to local drive? It seems like if publishing to reserved Pivot hosting is not in place nor any option to publish directly to other personal/custom online hosting, then the end user must ensure that the updated dzc is uploaded along with the updated cxml to wherever they uploaded the last version.

Clearly I need to just buckle down and use the tool tonight.
    • This seems to create a serious problem in working with a project that you started before and want to publish again from an updated Excel file... specifically I'm finding that the published revisions are suddenly using very low quality images even though the "Image Location" fields have not changed and still point to high resolution images. This seems to make it impossible to revise projects at all without having to expect massive quality degradation.

Is there any easier system than digging into huge amounts of text entry?
