Can Synths be strictly local?

Can I use Photosynth as a strictly local app? I would like to generate synths on my own computer and store them there, but do not want to share them with anyone or upload them to a web site. Is that possible?

I have the same question, I wish not to share all my synth to the public, may be just my friends and family.

Being dependent on a good internet connection can be rather frustrating, especially for new users - "Try once, get stuck and give up ..."

Not at this time I'm afraid. We're thinking hared about these subjects, but so far we like the "network effect" of having everything be online, similar to flickr pages. There's a spirited discussion here with answers from Blaise and Jonathan

Photo Dude,

I've heard that there are plans enable you to hide your synths but that's not possible just now.

If you plan to reveal any personal information about yourself on your main profile and don't want anyone to trace any synths of your yard or house to you, you could just make a secondary anonymous profile to post pictures of your yard or house on. Just don't give the synths(albums) a title/name that anyone could think to search for and don't tag them with a word that people would search for. You could make the titles of private synths a nonsense word that no one besides your family would know to search for. Also, for synths that you wish to stay private, I would definitely advise against pinning them on the map (you'd have to click on the little globe icon to the right of your synths, choose a location on the globe, and click 'Save' when you're logged into your account on the site to do this at all so don't worry about it being done on accident or automatically).

I know you were hoping for a simple privacy option -- I wish it were there, myself, but if you follow my guidelines here your synths should be virtually never seen except by those that you personally give the links to. Even if someone did somehow miraculously stumble across one of these anonymous synths, there would be nothing to tell them where they were taken. (This is, of course, assuming that you are able to avoid taking shots where house numbers, license plates, street signs, and other identifying markers are visible as you can zoom in quite easily to any part of a photosynth image. If avoiding such identifying data would ruin your shots, you could always use photo editing software before you make your synth to blur or paint out things like names or numbers on mailboxes, etc..

I would say that it seems to me that if you offer no clue in the title or tags regarding where your photos were taken it would be difficult, if not downright impossible, for the average person viewing them to pinpoint where they were taken.

I hope that helps somewhat. All the best to you.
