Can't get past the Installation screen

I was referred to your website, got interested and decided to install the programs. After I did this, I tried to view a synth (is that the right term) but I was redirected to the installation page. I did a reinstall and tried again - with the same result. I did several more installation, using the repair option, but every time I try to view a synth it just takes me to "Install" again.

I am running Vista 32-bit with IE7.

Make sure you are logged in as an Administrator, then try uninstalling Photosynth from the Control Panel, then delete everything in the C:\Program Files\Photosynth directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Photosynth on x64 machines.)

Then try installing Photosynth again.

If you could provide these details it would also be helpful:
1) When the installer runs, does it complete? (i.e. Do you get all the way to the end with the "Finish" button)
2) Operating system service pack

Given that your proposed solution hasn't worked, at least for me, I would have thought that you would follow it up. Four months have passed, but no such luck. Is this "in the spirit of the Company-Customer Pact"?? This is very disappointing, Microsoft.

Thanks, Matt, I did as you suggested - it didn't work. I followed your instructions precisely, reinstalled, and met with exactly the same problem. In answer to your questions:

1) The installer does get to the end and displays the "Finish" button.
2) I am running Vista Ultimate with service pack 1, however, I have it set to update automatically every day so it should be right up to date.

Any more suggestions?

pszanto,

The Photosynth.net website and Photosynth installer have both updated since your first post. If you're visiting the site since April 21st you should have been prompted to install the Silverlight plugin after you click on any synth's thumbnail. It's is now used for the primary synth viewer because it works on Macs as well as Windows machines.

Example:

The Photosynth creator (or synther) has updated as well and is available from photosynth.net/create.aspx.

If you have a previous version of Photosynth installed, you should see the following button:

ira trager,

If you haven't installed Photosynth ever before and want to view synths, use the Silverlight link above. To make your own, you can also visit the create page that I linked to above.

You should see the following button:
.

If you've had problems getting the installer to begin downloading, try the button in this post, as it links directly to the installer. Please bear in mind that the synth creator only works on Windows.
