Does more VM help process more photos in a synth?

Does more virtual memory help? I have a great scene with 700 photos I'd love to do. I tried chopping out the sky (down to 600) which didn't help. Now to try chopping out the foreground... (It's a scenic panorama from the top of the Continental Divide.)

Here's some interesting info about this:
The synth tool said that I ran out of memory.
The log file indicates perhaps there's a bug:

23:01:43 HR test fail <>\Registration.cpp(547) hr(8007000e)
exception SynthPipeline.cpp(197) hr(0x8007000E)
23:01:51 HR test fail <>\FileUtils.cpp(139) hr(80070005)
23:01:51 HR test fail <>\FileUtils.cpp(131) hr(80070005)
23:01:51 VtApp: ImageCache::Cleanup: Failed to unlink C:\DOCUME~1\Pete\LOCALS~1\Temp\Photosynther\images, hr=0x80070005
exception CollectionUploader.cpp(475) hr(0x80004004)

Now that I see this log file/folder... along with memory needed, can anyone provide a guesstimate of required scratch disk space per (100 photos, 100MB of photos, or whatever)?

At the moment I have no idea what the real limiting factor is.

So increasing virtual memory doesn't help?
