Good question, I'm sure that others will come across this.

There are a number of keyboard shortcuts in the system, which are documented on the last page of the "Photography Guide", which you can get to by clicking on the "Help" link in the lower right-hand corner of any Photosynth web page.

There may be another location for this information, but that's what I found.

The direct answer your question is that the 'p' key switches between displaying points, images, or both.

Hi Fowl.
As Rick mentioned, there are a bunch of keyboard shortcuts.

In general, the two main keys you might be interested in are:

'P' - toggles between displaying images, points or both
enter - Reset the camera view to look at the current image.

I see the same thing in the viewer, just pixels, no picture. Pressing "p" or "P" does not fix the problem.

Rebooting fixes the problem for a little while. I'm using XP with Firefox 3.0.1.

Yes, even if it weren't shouldn't the pictures eventually download?

I've been getting the same problem since yesterday, actually. I knew about the P shortcut - this is something different. The photos just aren't showing up at all. Now, I love point clouds, probably too much...but honestly, I can't go without photos ALL the time. ;D Anyway, this seems to be a problem with all the synths I've viewed.

Could you try hitting '~' or the grid/2D icon. Do images appear then or is their just a white quad.?

thanks

Yep, I've tried that for multiple synths. All I get is a single white square, not the normal grid of photos. I've zoomed out and navigated around just to make sure they're not hiding somewhere else, and they're not. =(

I'm using Firefox 3.0.1 on Windows XP SP2. I tried using IE 6, and that seemed to be fine. But as I said, I'd rather not use IE any more than I absolutely have to. XD

Could you also post a link to the synth you were viewing ?

Thanks.

For me, it's every single synth I've tried since yesterday evening (the 23rd). =/ For starters, the synths displayed on the home page of phosynth.com. Oddly enough, however, I CAN see this one I created. But nothing else. Not my other synth, nor any other synth I can find on the site.

Try opening the site in FireFox. I was getting "points only" in IE, then I tried switching to FireFox. The synths showed fine in FireFox. Maybe using a different browser resets the plugin, because after that I could view them just fine in IE as well.

Hmmm, thanks for the suggestion, but I'm already using Firefox. I tried using IE, and it seemed to be working just fine, but no luck with Firefox still, and I'd really rather not have to switch to IE just for Photosynth, especially considering the fact that it was working in Firefox just fine before. =P

I find that I get the "black screen / pixel points" frequently but only when I use the "view" button. If my browser is closed / logged out (IE7) and I launch manually and log in - it seems to work 9/10 times. View seems to be totally busted for me at least in the sense I always get the blacked out screen.

Are you refering to the view button in the synther (right when it finishes publishing the synth)?

I don't know if that's what Capo's referring to, but if it is, that's not my problem. I'm opening the synths manually, not via the View button in the synther, and they're coming up blank.

Bah, rebooting Firefox seems to have solved the problem, at least for now. Sorry for wasting your time, but thanks for your help! =D

Same problem here. somewhen tonight the pictures stopped showing up in Firefox 3.0.1 regardless of how often I press 'p' - in every synth and also in the 2D view.
I haven't tried IE and I haven't tried rebooting (as there is a synth being calculated right now).

(off topic: making synth feels faster now and they are being published much, much faster now.)

I had this problem as well; however, I restarted my computer, which triggered an auto update to the system. Since then, the photos seem to be showing up fine.

Same problem here. Vista Home Premium SP1. All the latest updates. IE7 up to date. I use Avira Antivir Free Version and Windows Firewall. Broadband connection 8mb max but normally about 4-5mb.

Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS 512 graphics card.

If I reboot computer it works for a while then reverts back to pixels after a while P does not help. Grid view only shows white rectangle. First loaded photosynth yesterday and uploaded first photos.

Loaded at work today and seemed okay there (ATI graphics card).

Any help appreciated.

As an update, we're working on this. (I just ran into it myself, so that should lead to some better debugging.)

I am having the same problem. Have tried IE 6 & 8 and Firefox 3, all on XP. I get blank rectangles of different shades in 2D and some points(sometimes) in 3D. Rebooting or restarting the browsers or reinstalling photosynth doesn't help.

Photosynth was cool when it worked.

Hi,

If you're seeing "photos gone only points" bug, try upgrading. Last night we released an updated viewer, synther, and installer package which has some fixes for this issue. See Scott's post for more information.

Please note, this is an optional upgrade which is why you aren't prompted to upgrade when you visit the site.
