Connect the Livescribe pen to an Android-powered Tablet?

I believe you have heard of the Notion Ink Adam which will come out later this year to early 2011. Could you consider porting the Livescribe Desktop to such an Android device? I believe it could be one of the best device combinations ever! Any chance we will see this?

It makes a little sense, if you want to play/read meetings recorded by the device..

I would prefer a android application that duplicates the livescribe device in an application.. esp on the new tablets coming out..

  • Hi Niklas, Currently there is not a specific Livescribe application available for viewing pencasts on any phone other than an iPhone.

Depending on the manufacturing specifications and the Flash version installed, some phone internet browsers can currently view and play pencasts located at www.livescribe.com/community as well as pencasts from a user’s personal profile after they log in.

Due to the variety of different phones available, we do not have information on what phones are compatible with playing Livescribe pencasts.

@thomasatmann, Thank you for your suggestion. I will pass it on to the product development team.

    Thank you

With the upcoming release of Android 3.0 for tablets hopefully this can be revisited. The idea of a Android App that would allow upload of notebooks so that they could be sent to Evernote or the LS Pencast area would be great.

Sales of tablet devices are in the millions now with two primary operating systems, Apple's iOS on the iPad and the Linux based OS's such as Android. As these are very popular with students and students are a large market segment for Livescribe, I feel that developing versions of the Livescribe Desktop to run on those platforms is an imperative.

Please announce that this idea has matured past consideration into development.

    Thank you,

    Eric

  • I’m exited
This is still avery good idea. Most people are moving onto tablets.
There will need to be a LiveScribe version for iOS, Android, and Metro.

  • I have been using your smartpen for a few years now and love the notetaking productivity improvements I am seeing at work... I was so impressed I bought both my college age sons your echo 8gb smartpen pro pack as well. I have 4 more children who will likely be receiving smartpens (or something similar) for Christmas. My only “wish” is for a full features Android app where I can view and listen to existing notes while away from my computer. I can get “part way there” by using your Evernote sync... I can view the PDF pencasts on my Phone (or any device supporting Evernote), however I am unable to listen to audio (so far I have not found android software with ability to play embedded audio in PDF)...

Since you do not have an Android version of your software I have been looking at other companies to provide a solution... One of the best I have found has been a company called Luminant Software. They make a product called “AudioNote” (for IOS, Android, Mac and Windows). The IOS (Iphone) version supports pen input, as does the Windows and MAC versions. They are working on pen input for the Andriod version, however to date for Android they only support key input (with audio sync). Once they support pen input this software looks to provide exactly the features I am looking for (Notetaking ability on Andriod device where handwriting and audio are in sync with ability to share among other devices) . I know Livescribe has been looking at providing this functionality on Android for more than a year. My suggestion is for Livescribe and Luminant Software to “compare notes” and work together... Maybe cross license each other’s technology... This would give all of us a “Win-Win” solution where we can use either pen and paper (livescribe) or Andriod, IOS, MAC, and PC electronic note taking ability...

I took the following directly from the Luminant www site, so it looks like they may be interested in working together... “... For more info or to discuss other Business Opportunities, email us at services@luminantsoftware.com” ...

Livescribe are you listening?.... Please either develop an Andriod App ASAP or partner with someone who you can work with to support your “Pencast PDF”...

NOTE: I am not affiliated with either Livescribe or Luminant Software.... Just an interested customer wanting to finally go “Paperless”

  • I would be simply trilled of being able to connect my Echo Pen to my Android Lenovo tablet.
I tried using a tablet for taking notes and it just gets to slow when you have to look for info at the beginning of a book and take extra note at the end.
With a paper book this is easier.
So using both tool, a tablet for searching and paper for taking notes, this would be a great combination.
And If you use pen input in Livescribe we could search the content using our own handwriting; no need to recognize the text first using OCR. This would accelerate search tremendously.
