@gynta:
Locus now supported correctly simple TAR maps, but no full structured TAR (TrekBuddy) atlases. That is different.

I like this idea especially for importing full raw PNG 100% zoom maps. TAR format do not need to force all images to reach fixed zoom scales.

http://mapc2mapc.freeforums.org/proce...

So our custom map can be processed, for the 100% zoom scale, looslessy!!
This is a great thing!

Hope Locut to have nice support for this kind of format ;-)

There is also a warning in locus download map dialog telling not to download map into tar, that it might not be supported in future.

So I vote not only to expand this format support but mainly to continue with supporting it.

Personally, I do not use TARed TrekBuddy maps, but those with single files (before Android, I had Symbian S60 so I chose TrekBuddy untared due to performance). Hence, I don't mind which type of TrekBuddy maps are supported, but I like the idea to use the same maps (which typically demand much space on the SD card as these are raster maps) in multiple applications :) This requires that Locus looks for some maps (not all) in other directories than standard, see http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manu...

Also I would like to see support of multi part TAR map (one map splitted to more smaller TAR files) within this feature . Mainly because of android filesystem limit (I think it is 4 GB).

It is probably possible to avoid current limits by creating softlinks with proper directory/file structure Locus require (if you use ext2, 3, 4 second partition on sd card) and point Locus to use maps (in real links) from there.
