Cannot use Gecko engine

  • Updated 2 years ago

I receive the same error previously reported when trying to use the Gecko engine. It states that it cannot find the xpcom file. I've used the Geckoinstaller and installed the full version to no avail. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi Todd,

Thanks for using Lunascape. I'm sorry you're having problems with it.
Also sorry about our lack of response, but we have registered your reports in both threads here, in our database, and the matter is under investigation. As you may already have seen elsewhere in this forum, we think it is an issue we thought we had fixed, but this bug depends to some extent on the system.

To help us along, could I ask you for some system details? The following information would be very useful:

1) Your system info as displayed in Help > About Lunascape

2) Your PC system info; I understood that you're using XP, but what SP do you have?

Any progress with this issue? I just added a "addin" and now the Gecko engine doesn't want to run, and I really prefer it over Trident. I hope the following are of some assistance here.

Hello All,

Here is an interesting thing about this problem...

I downloaded the newest install for lunascape and installed it using the portable option ( I made a folder on my desktop and installed it to that folder) and I am able to use the Gecko Engine with no issues now (only if i use the portable version, if i launch the full install version it still give me the xpcom error)

Not sure if this helps find the problem or not, but figured I would share.

Details from portable version:

Lunascape Core Version 6.7.0.25379 / Unicode
Operating System Version 6.1.7601
Internet Explorer Version 9.0.8112.16421
Gecko Plugin Version 3.6.28.25363 / Gecko 1.9.2.28
WebKit Plugin Version 1.3.7.25137 / WebKit 535.3 r95080

Hi All,

2 ryan.pcport:
Glad to hear the portable install worked for you.
It seems the problem here is again a permission problem that has already been discussed in an other thread and to which a solution is outstanding.

2 all having the same problem:
Could you try the user defined installation?
But do not use the default installation path. Use a path away from the default Windows Program Files folder (i.e: C:\Lunascape6).
I'm quite sure that works too.

Hi Kandra Ramanaiah,

Thanks for using Lunascape!

About the Gecko engine, the release date is still not decided, but we are planning to release Lunascape with an updated Gecko version. The messages about updating Gecko should then no longer appear. You may want to consider switching engine to WebKit or Trident in Lunascape, for sites where the warning appears.

Since your question is unrelated to the current thread, we would like to ask that in the future you create a new thread, if you can't find an active or pending thread that is related to your question. It makes this forum easier both to read and to manage.

Thank you.
