Audio dropouts on M-Track 2x2 on Win10

Problem:
When playing music from the hard drive, every few minutes the audio drops out for about a second, then comes back on right where it left off. After a few hours of playing, it distorts badly, sounding like it's running 4 bit audio until I unplug and replug the USB.

Replicated on:
A USB2 Dell laptop running Win 10, a USB3 Lenovo laptop running Win 10 Anniversary Update, and a USB3 desktop running Win10. Happens on streaming audio via Chrome/64, and with locally stored with both Foobar2000 and Groove. This happens through both the headphone output and the TRS.

Attempted fixes

  • Increased buffer to 4096, decreased samples to 16/44.1

  • Connected directly to PC, disconnected all other USB devices

  • Verified running latest drivers (1.04)

  • Disabled all unneeded hardware (other sound cards, network cards, etc)

  • Disabled all power-saving features for HD, CPU, and USB

  • Uninstalled device, rebooted to reinstall

  • Set processor priority for audio app to Real Time (highest)

  • Closed background applications

  • Verified no components are overheating

  • Hi,

Thanks for posting! And the detailed notes!

It sounds like it's just disconnecting for a second, which, to me, means it could just be a bad USB cable. I noticed you didn't mention trying this, but it's not exactly a cable most people would have just lying around.

Contact our Tech Support team directly and they will be able to help you from here. Here are a couple of options that you could choose from:

    • Submit a Warranty or Service Inquiry with our Technical Support team by logging onto the M-Audio Support Page. Select Warranty or Service Inquiry from the drop down menu. This will not require a support code.

    or

    • For faster support, call or email your nearest Support Office or International Distributor. Select your country to find the nearest office.

Make sure to reference or link to this thread to help out the support team.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions.

  • Good idea, but Windows is not reporting that it's losing connection; the icon for setting up a USB device doesn't pop up, and the buffer size doesn't reset. Both happen if I unplug and replug the device.

I'm also unable to reproduce this by moving the cable around. It's more or less random, but happens every few minutes.

If you think that it might still be the cable, I can set up a warranty or service inquiry.
