Axiom 49 Mk II not working with Windows 8.1

Hi there,
I have installed the Win7 drivers for the above mentioned product and it is shown in the device manager (version 5.10.0.6002, device is named M-Audio Axiom 49) but no midi is coming thru to any software. I've tested this also with MIDI OX which shows all the MIDI activity EXCEPT for the axiom... why? shouldn't this just work with win8 as well?
Greetz,
Carsten.

  • Hello Carsten,

    Thanks for posting!

That is odd; the Axiom series is class compliant and all the core MIDI functions (keys, pads, knobs, etc...) should be "plug and play".

Were you mentioning Windows 8 because you are still able to use the Axiom on another computer? If not, would you be able to test that?

MIDI-OX is as solid a test to confirm the keyboard is sending MIDI, and if the Axiom was sending nothing on multiple computers it was likely be a hardware related issue.

    Other potential causes:

-If using a power supply, not using the proper model.
-Especially lengthy USB cable (over approx 5ft become less reliable)
-Using a USB hub/adapter of some sort

I've also seen some very particular and isolated issues with all USB/MIDI controllers in general related to Windows 8.1. There are some posts on Microsoft and Intel forums about an update that occurred earlier in 2014 where USB devices seem to stop working. It was often related to computers that have USB 3.0 ports. I never really found any conclusions from the forums, but we can keep this in mind if you continue to have trouble.

Let me know and I'd be happy to help!

  • Hey Dan,

thank you very much for your quick reply. After reading it I did some more testings with different usb cables etc and came to the conclusion that my old usb cable seems to be broken.
The strange thing about this was, that with my old setup it was perfectly working for years - thats why it didn't come to my mind this could be the cause. But I guess in this case the saying "never change a running system" is true ;-)
With the old cable it was behaving very strangely, sometimes it worked, sometimes not - so it was hard to find the cause.

But thank you for giving me the correct hints to get back to this problem and find the solution by myself :-)

Btw. the axiom is a really great product and very reliable!

    Greets,
    Carsten.
