Axiom 49 (original) Yosemite Compatibility?

I own both an original Axiom 49 and Axiom 61 that I've been using for the past 8 years with my old school Macbook Pro (Snow Leopard). That laptop recently crashed and I was forced to purchase a brand new Macbook Pro (Yosemite). Is there any way to get my keyboard to work with this new laptop? I cannot find any Yosemite (or even Mavericks) drivers on the M-Audio website, nor can I even contact M-Audio!!! I've tried filling out a support ticket on their website, and even though my products are registered, I do not have a "Support Code" so I cannot submit the technical support request!!! I just want to know if they plan on making a driver.... or if there is a work around..... otherwise, I'll go purchase a new midi keyboard!!! I can't afford a new keyboard, but I can't also can't afford to waste any more time!!! Thank you for reading this!!!

  • Hello,

    Thanks for posting!

Every Axiom series keyboard is "class-compliant", so the drivers needed are already built into all Macs (since OSX 10.4). No driver installations are needed. "Plug and play".

If you're having a particular problem with the Mac picking up your Axioms, try the steps in the post below:

  • Dan,

Thank you for the reply!!! But I'm not experiencing any plug & play over here!!!

I mainly use my Axiom with Reason, and it always worked fine with Reason 3 & 4. I recently upgraded to Reason 8 and it is not detecting the Axiom.

It is also not being detected in Garageband.

Oh, also, when I open the "midi" utility on my Mac, it does not see the Axiom, but it sees my Yamaha Motif which is even older! I had to install a driver for my Motif.

I recently stumbled upon some old M-Audio notes I had from years ago and they say something about, "running the M-Audio Reason 3 Control Surface Installer". What is that? Do I need this installer? I know I used to use the program "Enigma" to load Reason presets into my keyboard, and I installed it on my new computer and it's not helping. Is there a separate M-Audio Reason Control Surface Installer?

In the meanwhile, I'll check out the link that you posted... hope that helps. I'll let you know how it goes.

    Thanks again,
    -Tony

  • Dan,

That article did not help. It actually doesn't even make sense to me.... it says if your device isn't recognized or not listed, then create a new configuration and after that, "any connected but unlisted devices should REAPPEAR"....

How can they RE-appear if they never appeared in the first place???

I tried doing what it said... my device did not appear.

Next, I tried the "Add Device" option and my laptop froze!!!! That REALLY scared me!!!

Is anybody able to use their original Axiom with Yosemite or a brand new Macbook Pro?????

  • Paul & Dan,

It turned out, after tons of trial & error, and purchasing new midi keyboards, that all I needed was a different USB cable!!!!

I had half a dozen USB cables at my house, and none of them worked!!! The keyboards would light up, but my Macbook Pro would not recognize the keyboards.

I ended up purchasing a brand new keyboard, which also DID NOT WORK, but before I boxed it back up, I decided to try the measly 3 ft cable that came with it.... and it worked!!!! Then I plugged that cable into my Axiom and it also worked!!!

I still don't understand why none of my old cables would work, but I guess the midi keyboards (which are USB 2.0) were having trouble with the USB 3.0 ports on my Macbook Pro. Maybe my USB cables were too old and I needed newer "high speed" cables.

After finally getting the keyboards to work, the only issue was that I needed 6 ft of length. So I ended up buying a 6 ft high speed USB cable from Home Depot ($7), Guitar Center ($12), and Micro Center ($22). The $7 Home Depot cable worked fine so I went with that!!!

    Thanks for the concern/input, dudes!!!
