Change pad/button colors on midi message

I'm a programmer who'd love to modify the colors of the pads dynamically by sending a midi message to the keyboard. Is this possible, and where can I find a reference or guide to do this?

  • Hey Max,

    Thanks for posting!

Which controller are you referring to?

  • Hey Max,

You can use the Code 49's editor software to change the color of the pads!

Please refer to the following links to download the Code 49's editor for your operating system:

    M-Audio Code 49 Editor Software - Windows

    M-Audio Code 49 Editor Software - Mac

Once you have the editor open, select Help > Open User Guide and navigate to page 47 for instructions regarding changing pad colors.

    I hope that helps!

  • Yeah, already looked into that. I'm using the keyboard as a highly customized controller in a piece of software I'm writing, and would like my program to be able to send a message to the keyboard to change the colors as user feedback, I'd be fine with switching between the four preset colors per pad, but I still need a way to tell the keyboard via MIDI to actually change the color. Any google searches just return me to this forum.

  • I too have this problem. I am also a programmer and I have configured all the pads in the cc-cycle mode with four different colours. Now I want to recall different configurations of the drum-pad and in order to do that I would need to set the state of the drum-pad from the computer. It would be fantastic if there was any way I could send a midi-message back to the keyboard to change the state.

So I guess the question remains! Is there any such midi-message?

  • I am looking for a Code keyboard at this moment and explore the features of that.
Wery cool feature are separate channels for pads and main keyboard, and you can change banks for pads and main keys separate from apart - thats awesome! Multifunctional XY pad are awesome too.

But keyboard also have a multicolor backlight for pad, and they cannot change the collors by receiving midi message from host!!!! They dont show clip colors from your DAW. Why you dont realize this feature!!!!???? You produce multicolor pads only for goodlooking like a christmas tree???? When that controller are realised, controllers like ableton push, akai APC grooveboxes are released at this time to, and they are supported this feature.

And damn encoders, like on axiom series, which doesnt work correct in Ableton - you must rotate them many many times for change the value from 1 to 127. Ofcourse, you may say-: "Let use a rotary acceleration", but this is UNUSEFUL.

I hope m-audio fix that problems at second generation of code keyboards

  • Dear M-Audio Staff, this is not super hightech and could easily be implemented in the firmware. Also the ability to display custom text messages on the codes display should be possible. In this day and age this seems pretty basic and would make for a really great contoller keyboard. Sure, this is money you can save in developement but on the other hand it would make the device much more versatile and attractive and you would get the investment back in sales. Go for it!!!
