(brand new) Code 49 doesn't properly turn on

My newly bought code 49 doesnt want to work over the usb connection, it only works for a few seconds and the lights are flickering heavily, after max. 10 secunds it always turns off. i tried different usb ports and another cable with no different results. should i try it using a power supply? i would have to go buy one and i want to know if that would help
btw i am using windows 8.1

Took me a few minutes to find my own post again, I hope someone reading this?

So i went to the store yesterday and bought a generic 9V power supply for waaay to expensive money, but yes now everything works perfectly, no flickering lights at all, but WHY IS IT NOT INCLUDED IN THE BOX?
apparently the USB ports from my pc are not strong enough unless i use a pci adapter card, or unplug everything else out of my pc?
I really dont think that i'm the only one having this problem, but cant find any similar topics so means that there is something wrong with my computer?

but really, charge those extra 10 bucks and put the 9V supply into the box, so that the other poor people with weak usb dont have to make that long journey into the special electronics store again

  • Hey Jsquare,

    Thanks for posting!

Bus power is sufficient enough to fully power a Code series keyboard; it is not necessary to connect a power adapter as well. Are you connecting directly via USB and not through a USB hub?

You have the option to use a power adapter if you intend on controlling external MIDI devices and will not use a computer (without bus power).

It could be the cable that is not transferring the requisite power. Have you tried connecting with a different USB cable?
