Code 49: routing USB MIDI to MIDI OUT

Hi,

this question has been asked before, but was not answered.
I want to control a Prophet 08 (only MIDI) with Ableton, via a Code 49. It is connected to the computer via USB and to the Synth via MIDI.
MIDI output from Ableton-Track is routed to Code 49's USB MIDI, but I can't get any signal into the synth.

I tried with MIDI OUT turned on and off on the Code 49, and I also tried turning local control off on the synth.

I really hope you can help..

best, sebastian

  • Hey drsdl,

    Thanks for posting!

Is the Code 49 sending MIDI to your computer? You can test that easily in Ableton by adding a new MIDI track with an instrument plugin and playing some notes. If necessary, here are some MIDI monitoring utilities you can use for further testing:

    For testing on PC:
    MIDI-OX

This video will get you set up quickly for Input Monitoring in MIDI-OX:
    Monitoring MIDI Input with MIDI-OX

    For testing on Mac:
    snoize: MIDI Monitor

Have you enabled the MIDI Out port on the Code? To do this:

    • Press Edit to enter Edit Mode. The Edit button will light up.

    • Press the MIDI Out key to enable or disable the port. The display will show MID and whether the port is ON or OFF. To confirm your change, wait for 1 second. You will exit Edit Mode automatically.

If you would rather send MIDI directly from Ableton to the Prophet, the following article will help you configure external hardware in Ableton Live:

Ableton - Using external hardware with Live

I hope this helps you! Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Hi Nick,

    thanks for answering.

Sending MIDI via USB works perfectly, sending MIDI to the synth via MIDI cable works perfectly too.

I am familiar with using external hardware with ableton, but the synth has no USB, only MIDI. Therefore I want to use the Code 49 as "USB-to-MIDI-converter".

I tried the snoize MIDI Monitor, which says that MIDI is coming from USB MIDI and going to USB MIDI as well, when I play a MIDI clip in ableton.

    Code 49 Manual says:

If an external device is connected to the MIDI Out, your computer can send MIDI

messages out along this path: computer --> Code 49 -- > external device.

That's exactly what I want. I tried with both, MIDI OUT on and MIDI OUT off.

  • Hey @drsdl,

Did you manage to get it working?

I am also interested for this feature.

    Thanks in advance,

  • Hi all! Same issue here, I have many MIDI synths and I want to control them from the laptop through my CODE 25 but it is not working at all, I just bought the CODE 25 because of that feature (I had an AXIOM 25 and it worked perfectly), am I missing some setting?

    Thanks for the feedback!
