CODE 61 - Mapped parameters overlapping in Mainstage

Hey Guys,

I'm having trouble with assigning buttons on MainStage. I can get them to be assigned but certain buttons do multiple things on the keyboard. For example one of the Knobs will be assigned to Piano Reverb but it's also changing the on/off function of one of the layers. I've double checked all the assignments and everything is assigned correctly. It would seem that some of the knobs and faders are connected to each other and to the buttons as well. Can anyone help me make sure each fader, knob and button is doing it's own thing and not changing each other?

I hope that makes sense.

Thanks to anyone wiling to try and help!

  • Hi Aaron,

    Thanks for posting.

You may just have overlapping CC's or Mainstage is already pre-programmed to respond to certain CC's. The knobs, faders, and buttons would only be connected if they happen to be sending the same CC message, which is possible for some presets.

You'll want to check out the User Manual and go through the CC assignment for some of the offending parameters and change them to different CC's:

    Code Series - User Manual

    The process is pretty much:

    - Press EDIT
    - Move the knob, fader, button you want to edit
    - Press the key labled "CTRL ASSIGN"
    - Use the up/down buttons or numeric keys to enter a new CC number
    - Press the ENTER key

You'll also want to make sure that all of the "MODE" buttons are red (MIDI mode).

    I hope this helps!

  • I have the same problem. I think it's that the Code 61 is sending out two sets of data, MIDI USB and MIDI DIN (whatever that is). They both show up on the list of instruments in Mainstage and I can't change the number of outputs in Audio MIDI Setup. The options are greyed out.

  • Hi Lee,

MIDI DIN is the hardware input/output on the Code (the 5-pin MIDI In/Out on the back). So if you see a MIDI DIN option in your MIDI input options, this would be data coming from anything connected to that port on the back of the Code.

The keyboard does not send out two sets of data. If one knob is moving two parameters simultaneously, than those parameters are both programmed to the same message being sent from the knob. The knob will not send two different messages at the same time.

If you'd really like to check the response of the Code to ensure it's not duplicating anything and everything is simply coming from one port, use a MIDI Monitor:

Using a MIDI Monitor to test your device

In the end, this is simply a matter of mapping process in mainstage. Follow my instructions above and please contact Apple for further assistance with this.

  • That peculiar because by setting up a null channel that effectively mutes everything coming from MIDI (DIN), I've minimized the problem. Whether the Code 61 is sending two sets of data or not, that's definitely what Mainstage is receiving.

  • I have a kind of similar problem in Mainstage. I map all my faders and knobs, save everything, when I start everything up again the knobs are not mapped. when I go in the layout mode I see that when I map them again one setting changes, which is the channel. Everytime it changes the channel. How can this be set not to change?
When reconfiguring MS I save the concert and check the channel so MS wise all is well. Please let me know as changing these everytime is not a workable scenario
