I’m frustrated

Code 61 don't transmit Midi all the time.

Just bought a code 61 to work with Ableton Lite and Logic X on my brand new Macbook Pro (Yosemite). In Midi Monitor, the signal is coming during one or two minutes, then nothing. In Logic, or MainStage, if i'm playing some keys, suddenly, no more sound, and when i look at midi monitor, no more midi signal is passing.

I have to reset the code 61, sometimes three times before it works again.

Can this code 61 be defective?

  • Hi Sam,

Sorry you are having trouble with that.

Please make sure to test with a different USB cable or different USB port, even a different computer.

If this continues to be a problem, there's a chance it may be hardware related. In this case, I recommend to submit a warranty or service claim with our Tech Support team for further assistance. You can call or email your nearest support team or International Distributor with the information below. In the event that this is a problem with the hardware, they can help you with warranty or service options.

Hi, it might help someone. I went back to the seller, and the code 61 was working perfectly. He told me apple had some problems with some usb ports on some series of computers that they didn't admit. He gave me this advice: buy a powered Usb Hub and try to put the code 61 on it. Works perfectly now.

So the problem was with the Macbook, not the code 61.

    • I have a new imac (running Yosemite) and just bought the code61 (Oct 2015) and had the same issues with no sound. I also use a USB hub, and still had to constantly switch the USB cable around to different slots. So I am not confident the issue is solely an apple usb issue. I then started having issues when playing Cmajor scale and the D key would not make any sound. I ended up (sadly) returning the code 61. If this issue is resolved I would definitely look at code 61 again.
    • Hi Michelle,

There has been a problem reported that some of the Code boards come with a faulty USB cable. Our Tech Support team or your nearest Distributor should be able to help you with this though, within the warranty. If you choose to pick one up again and have this problem, just contact our support team:

      • Submit a Warranty or Service Inquiry with our Technical Support team by logging onto the M-Audio Support Page. Select Warranty or Service Inquiry from the drop down menu. This will not require a support code.

      or

      • For faster support, call or email your nearest Support Office or International Distributor. Select your country to find the nearest office.

      I hope this helps!

  • Hi Sam,
Do you think, that external AC adapter might solve the problem too ?
Or USB powered hub is only or better solution ?

  • Hello everyone,
Firstly i want to thank you Sam I am so grateful.
This solution solve my all problems and I was so depressed that I might send the device back.
Secondly to all you out there, I am not even Mac user, I have brand new Lenovo PC and yet still I was experiencing same problems. So probably more computers have problems with USB power. I solved the problem with external ac adapter and since then I never had to restart my CODE or had any connection problems.
    So it might help someone.
    Best luck

  • I'm having the same problem!!! I have a mac mini... and i am trying to use it through an interface now with midi hook ups... It's not working, then it does and then it doesn't work again. I'm so puzzled... I'd rather just use this thru the midi outputs to be honest...

  • Hi there,
I have the same issue here. I have a brand new PC Inter I7, 32 GB Ram, Win 8.1 Enterprise, Cubase 8 Pro. There is all I've done so far without success:

    - Disabled power management of all the USB ports (device manager)
    - Bought an additional power supply 9V
    - Bought a powered USB 3 slots
    - Changed USB Cable
    - Tried also with a standard MIDI cable USB from M-AUDIO (Uno 1X)
    - Different Computers
    - Updated the Firmware.

And always the same story, I play and it randomly stops transmitting Midi signal. I am very disappointed, I have returned the product to the shop and they will replace it by a new one but I'm afraid It happen again. If you have others solutions I'll appreciate it! ;-) in the meantime, greetings from Switzerland
    • It sounds like you may actually have a hardware problem, possibly a faulty USB port instead of just a bad cable. If you have received a replacement by now, have you had better luck with that one?
    • I Got a new one and no problem so far, I forget to mention but I d also tried all the Usb ports with the defect one. I use also code 61 with a breath controller from TEControl and when code stopped to transfer midi, the breath controller doesn't, even if I swap USB ports, code randomly stops, and TEControl no. But by now It seems to be good... I cross fingers this being fixed.

  • I have the same issue with my Code 25.
    New computer
    Tried other USB slots
Disabled power management for all the USB ports
    Updated the hardware

Do i need to use an external power source to make the controller work? If yes, do i need to purchase one myself or is this something that M-Audio will provide me with?
    • Hi,

Please make sure that you have tried a different USB cable, hence the solution for the rest of the inquiries here. If you don't have one, reach out to our Tech Support team or your nearest distributor and they should be able to help out. Here are a couple options you can choose from:

      • Submit a Warranty or Service Inquiry with our Technical Support team by logging onto the M-Audio Support Page. Select Warranty or Service Inquiry from the drop down menu. This will not require a support code.

      or

      • For faster support, call or email your nearest Support Office or International Distributor. Select your country to find the nearest office.
