Code 61 has a higher range velocity difference (volume) issue, is this fixable now or do we need an update?

I had heard about this issue in a youtube vid while I was waiting for mine to be delivered (look up Code 61 vid William Shaggy). He returned two keyboards over this. He said the curve settings did nothing to resolve. He gave a good review of it until days later when he changed the main description to talk about this issue.

I hadn't noticed it until today, after having it for a week and 1/2. I was playing Hollywood Strings (EW) and noticed it drastically. When I play the higher note keys (which can change with the Key octave setting, so its not an actual keybed problem) the lower keys respond louder, maybe twice as loud or more, than the higher keys notes. The low notes bury the sound of the higher badly.

I do not want to have to return this, as I really like it, but this issue is not something I can ignore. I would think an update could fix this. I hope...

  • Hi Dale,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with that.

Make sure that you try this with different plugins and patches to be sure it is not associated with your plugin.

I have yet to experience this problem, but i'd be happy to look into it further. Could you provide a video of the problem if possible?

    Thanks for your help.

  • So just for example & sorry I didn't include this in my question,
In East West Hollywood strings (full strings section) in Key Octctave 1 on the Code 61-key with #9 above is blazing loud while Enter key is really soft.

I am starting to think it my be some software issues. I tried it in Sonnivox 88 & Other parts of East West Sound Cloud with no issues...I will keep testing.

Sorry if I am just being a PITA. At least I feel better about it not being an over all issue with the Code 61.

  • Thanks for the update and doing some additional testing!

It does seem to be more likely the software now, but if you want to test with Midi Monitor on a Mac, this will display velocity values.

    Mac: MIDI Monitor

If consistent key hits show up with wildly different velocities, it's possible the problem may be intermittent, but at this point it seems unlikely.

Let me know if you find out anything else or have any questions!

  • Hi Dale,

Just wanted to give you a heads up that we have released a firmware update for the Code Series that addresses some velocity issues. Please download the firmware installer here:

Code Series - 1.0.3 Firmware Updater for Windows 7/8/10

    Code Series - 1.0.3 Firmware Updater for Mac 10.9.5 - 10.11

Run the updater after it's been installed and follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware. Try to make sure you do not have other USB devices plugged in that may interfere and avoid using any USB hubs or long cables while updating.

Let me know how it goes!
